Probably not, but Casino did drop back two spots and picked up an extra draft pick then selected him.
If he has a nice sophomore year will you be happier about that pick?
Then he spent those picks and more trading up for Metchie and Harris.

Caserio giveth, then taketh away. What was the point of talking about Green in a Young vs Stroud thread??
What's ur point L?
Perhaps it was relevant to the argument at hand...Caserio giveth, then taketh away. What was the point of talking about Green in a Young vs Stroud thread?
Good to hear.No I didn't like the Stingley pick, I wanted Sauce, I liked the Green pick. I still think he's got the chance to be really good, Said he had surgery, been working out, in great shape and has even lost a few pounds. Much stronger supposedly too.
Subjective; but he was the top rated OG prospect and was projected to go about mid round. So I guess I'd have to say "Yes". Others will disagree.Did you think Green was the 15th best player in the country? Yes or no
He wasn't but he was a need pick, neither was Stingley.Subjective; but he was the top rated OG prospect and was projected to go about mid round. So I guess I'd have to say "Yes". Others will disagree.
No. I didn’t even think he was the best guard. I thought Zion Johnson was better. I was extremely disappointed when we drafted Green.Did you think Green was the 15th best player in the country? Yes or no
Kenyon Green had a much better resume than Zion Johnson. Green played well early in the season, prior to his injury week 7 vs the Raiders. And if we're cherry picking, Tyler Smith has shown to be the best o-lineman at that point in the draft. Maybe that entire draft. Anyone have that happening? No. I didn’t even think he was the best guard. I thought Zion Johnson was better. I was extremely disappointed when we drafted Green.
I honestly thought Johnson had the better resume, but to each their ownKenyon Green had a much better resume than Zion Johnson. Again, regardless of position, does anyone think they're the bpa or need pick?Kenyon Green had a much better resume than Zion Johnson. CB and OG were certainly need picksAgain, regardless of position, does anyone think they're the bpa or need pick?
We have differing opinions on Stroud's talent level and I dont think he's going to be a bad QB. I just dont think he's a special talent like the guys I listed.
Nothing wrong with that. I respect your opinion.
I think it should be a blend of both. Plus a team's BPA and/or need is not clear at draft time for those outside an organization. For me, the massive exchange of ideas, thoughts and information on this board about our team is what makes this time of year fun, regardless of who's right/wrong or batshit crazy.Again, regardless of position, does anyone think they're the bpa or need pick?
Even as a person who would draft Stroud, I recognize this level down from the elite.
I agree. What if the BPA was the best Left Tackle prospect in 25 years? If you're the Texans you don't take himI think it should be a blend of both. If you look back at last year's draft, any elite prospect was off the board at #15. So it was definitely, best player available at a need position. And really, what position didn't the Texans need at that point?Again, regardless of position, does anyone think they're the bpa or need pick?
in that case someone is frothing at the mouth and you trade. I tend to agree you want the best player for your team and that has good value. So CJ to me in not 1.2, so I trade or pick WA and see where the QB's slide to, maybe make a move where CJ is value, or AR, or WL...I agree. What if the BPA was the best Left Tackle prospect in 25 years? If you're the Texans you don't take him
So how does the offensive ROY go the pick after Green after the trade down. Garrett Wilson played with terrible qb play and still put up 1100 yds. He would've been the best wr on the Texans offense as a rookie. Stingley didn't play well either even when he wasn't in street clothes. Stingley college tape hasn't been good since his freshman year. Now he gets the same scheme Sauce played in which is alot of cover 3 and cover 2. We will see how he performs. Green will be a solid pro, but again, he was a need pick vs best player imoIf you look back at last year's draft, any elite prospect was off the board at #15. He doesn't. Garrett Wilson went 10th to the Jets. The Texans traded down to #15 from #13.So how does the offensive ROY go the pick after Green after the trade down.
I would say their situations are close to the same. The Texans have a more experienced LT, so that could be a slight edge to Stroud.
Stroud and Anderson are both young players. Is it the remaining draft that you consider more "win now" types?Picks had to be reflection of coaching preference, who was less interested in building much as immediate impact and coach-ability on his roster. Part that’s confusing, is why did Nick allow this to happen, knowing only temporary situation?
I'm not knocking the Texans scouting process. At all. But finding Will Anderson is like finding the sun. It's pretty obvious, everyday. I know there were people knocking him. Everyone gets knocked come draft season. Will Anderson was the first visit of 30 allowed.
Every player has warts, he just stated liked to add two quality players (mitigating expectations publicly, but internally excited as hell). Personally I like all the picks, which is a rarity!I'm not knocking the Texans scouting process. At all. But finding Will Anderson is like finding the sun. It's pretty obvious, everyday. Excellent question. One which Caserio will never answer. All we will do is speculate?I'd be curious as to what the team would've done if CJ Stroud was taken with the first pick. In all honesty, I'm not sure they were sold on Pint Young and may have traded out of the spot while keeping their focus on Anderson. No one in the media has asked that question.
Take Young at 1.2 and trade up for Anderson at 1.3. The more you look at this, the easier it seems for the Texans. They were coming away with 2 of the 3 best players in the draft.I'd be curious as to what the team would've done if CJ Stroud was taken with the first pick.

OK. I think Caserio said Young was QB1 on their board this morning, though. If Pint Young was truly the desired target….then they should’ve executed a trade with the Panthers to ensure he would be their QB by having the first pick. Again, I’m not buying Young was the backup plan to Stroud.
There's a hundred different ways to play the what if game for every pick they made. What if they had assurances that the Panthers were taking Pint Young? No one has asked because it's not something their concerned withI'd be curious as to what the team would've done if CJ Stroud was taken with the first pick. 90% sure they would’ve taken young. Heck I would’ve been over the moon if young was there at 1.2, he was my first choice qb all along. True about injuries and CnD.Those who disregard CND’s medical evaluations should be tagged as buyer beware. He correctly projected probabilities of Stingley’s odds to overcome Lisfranc, injury shared by Tyree Wilson (that otherwise could have gone overlooked) and his Bryce Young shoulder status odds for a full recovery. From a medical standpoint alone CJ was the top QB prospect and Will top edge rusher.
True about injuries and CnD.
CJ was Caserio's top QB choice, not everybody's. If this doesn't workout in 3 yrs Caserio should rightly be fired.
This doesn't surprise me,LZ said on his radio show this morning that the building was split on Stroud but everybody loved Will Anderson. He said Stroud was DeMeco’s choice at QB and Caserio did not want him at 2.
This doesn't surprise me,
It's not what I've heard though.
In fact 2 different people have told me 2 different things when it came to the Stroud pick.
1. Told me that Cal/Slowik didn't want Stroud. But Hannah/Caserio did. Not sure about Ryans.
2. Stroud was a Cal/Hannah pick.
Again, let’s play the games, then judge as facts become known.
& it's not like Stroud is a bad prospect. I didn't want to draft him at 1.2, but if he turns out to be a top 10 QB.... ain't nothing wrong with that.Yep. It doesn’t matter how the players get here. They are here and this is who the Texans will be playing with for the season. I’m sure if the player is successful everyone in the organization will take credit for knowing all along. And of course if the player fails we will hear “leaks” and “I told you so…”
Your neighbor and mailman don’t qualify as reputable sources.
And if two people are telling you two different things than that means no one knows.
Especially now LZ is saying Demeco wanted Stroud. And LZ has said he has no sources on the inside.
Guess what? No-one ******* knows anything.

If they come to think of him as a top 10, but not a championship caliber QB, don't overspend when contract time comes. Prepare to trade him. Look for your QB. Take a couple of flyers like Purdy, or Romo. Draft him at the top of the draft, like Trey Lance even though you're paying a gazillion to a pretty face. Draft him in the third like Russ, even though you just paid out the butt for... dang, forgot his name.
