We’re all on here speculating but you know darn well none of us are in that war room. LolWe've been told Caserio fixed the cap & would be able to makes serious moves in FA.

So it's not just me seeing Caserio not being as good as he should be. Hopefully, the draft turns off season around.

The free agency moves so far look like they will marginally improve a team in dire need of an influx of talent. I think most people can agree that there were glaring weaknesses at Center and LB. Nothing has been done about that. Someone made a joke that they couldn't sign Jake Brendel because he wanted a contract longer than two years. They don't want to sign free agents to long contracts, but they also don't want to resign players who showed growth and talent. I just want to know what the strategy is. Is this another tank year and next year is when they put it all together? It's not just you and Rivers. Truth is some folks just go along with the train ride no matter how off course the train may go, and how many times the wheels fall off. They will simply make new excuses on top of the old excuses because the truth hurts.
As for me, I'm really disappointed in this FA class. The best decision was the trade with TB. I can also get onboard with Ward - I see the thinking of the vet guy to help Pitre and Sting and be a leader back there for a couple of years. Woods? Meh? Ok I guess but he's not a real difference maker.
Outside of that, this class is a big fat zero to this point. Ya, I know it's not over, blah blah blah. Add in the two major losses in FA and not counting the trade (because that isn't FA) this FA period is a wash at best as of today. We'll see what else happens, but no Center is a HUGE failure on the part of Nick. At this point, I'm interested in a trade for a vet C. We can't go into this with Q and some rookie. No way, no how.
And that's with the 3rd most cap space coming in to FA. SF has no money but got the best DL when they are already stacked. Money can be found for targeted guys. Nick just really likes the bargain bin at the dollar store. I was hoping for at least JC Penney, but oh well. I've accepted my fate as a Texans fan!
The new draft class will require $19MM so technically the Texans are $1MM underwater. They will also need $5MM for IR, LTBEs.According to Spotrac, this morning, with everything accounted for including the draft pool cap and the dead cap, Texans have about $8.4M.
BUT, only the top 51 salaries are counted against the cap, so this number is $18.3 M.
I could be wrong, but the way I understand it, we have $18M left for signing new players.

Keenum did play in the NFC Championship game.
My understanding is that what spotrac calls the "draft pool cap" of $19M already accounts for what you call "new draft class" $19M. I don't find where spotrac accounts for the $5M.The new draft class will require $19MM so technically the Texans are $1MM underwater. They will also need $5MM for IR, LTBEs.

Just signed Sheldon Rankins to a 1 year 10mil deal. I like the player pickup I don’t really understand the contract.
I think they overpaid for him but with Myers gone Mac Jones needed a weaponJuju just got signed by New England.
Yeh, that qualifier is not very readable on my phone, but I now see it's there in very faint text.2023 Projected Draft Pool Cap
(Estimated cap dollars necessary to sign upcoming draft picks (not included in the cap figure yet)
They do not account for the $5MM because it is a projected unknown amount. Teams always have $5MM in reserve to sign IR replacements and to pay those players who meet their LTBEs (Likely To Be Earned).
Juju just got signed by New England.
Nice pickup!Excellent pickup at a position of need. His contract is in-line with what a starting DT makes. Player is betting on himself to get that Hargrave money next offseason.
He will make a nice pairing with Maliek Collins this season and improve the run defense substantially.
Told y'all I could smell another!Nice pickup!
Hopefully that'll calm down the few that've been crying about the lack of SPLASH signings by NC!

Ranked as a top-25 defensive lineman by Pro Football Focus. He tallied three sacks and four TFLs last year. Rankins is a well-rounded tackle who should help sure up the interior of Houston's defensive line in 2023. per rotoworldGood pick up.
What 2 big losses in FA?
Ogbo Okoronkwo #45 yea agree but he is a free agent no? May lose him idnkTremon Smith who is a very good returner and an underrated secondary player.
The other guy is Obo Oko. That's what I call him. Don't ask me to spell his full name, but the 2nd half of last year he came on like a dog and was our best dlineman.
Nice pickup!

Yeah I don’t think calling Tremon Smith a big loss is accurate. He’s a rotational secondary player.Tremon Smith who is a very good returner and an underrated secondary player.

He's already gone sir. Signed with Cleveland.
You act like players have no say in these things? What if Rankins only wanted a 1 year contract? What if he saw the price DTs are going for and said to himself "Damn if I ball out in Ryans' D I can make much more next year"? Is Nick supposed to hit him over the head, stick a pen in his hand, grab the hand and sign Rankins' signature? Maybe use an autopen? Hire a forgerer? One year? That's not a splash, it's a puddle!
Like the player though and he will help for 2023, but this is another one-year deal. The guy will ball out in 23, and then leave. Y'all ok with that?
Nick's vision of team-building is now coming into very clear focus. It's really hard to deny now.
I will say that it can work, but it's a tough row to hoe. You have to put all your eggs into the draft basket to build your core and then resign most of those guys...and simply dabble on the edges in the FA market for bottom of roster and fill-in deficiencies year to year with aging vets looking to rebound or cash in on a longer deal elsewhere.
This puts almost the entire pressure on the draft. Again - this CAN work. It's really not much different than what Dallas does.
But you better be right on most of your day 1 and day 2 draft picks. Nobody is 100% right, but you need to get your big stars, and key long-term contributors via the draft and have far more hits than misses or you will not be a good team and will be churning a ton of players year after year.
What do you guys think of this philosophy now that it's really very clear where he is guiding the ship? You in? Hate it? In between?

Zeke hasn't been worth a darn for the last two years.Do y’all think Ezekiel Elliot would be a pricey signing?
This here is a reading and comprehension problem because I never said Bortles was good. Let's try another more elementary simpler try. Has Bortles ever played in the AFC Championship game? Have the Texans ever played in the AFC Championship game? The only thing dumber than proclaiming Bortles as a good qb is arguing with the guy who proclaims Bortles as a good QB.
Bortling: A verb that describes failure of decisions.
We really don't need a ton of big splashy moves right now. Somewhere in the middle feels about right which is what this is so far. As others have said surprised we haven't gone after a C but I'll assume DeMeco and NC have a plan to move on one.
Still averaged 4 yards a carry and is two seasons removed from 1,000 yards. Not sure why he wouldn’t be considered to platoon with Pierce.Zeke hasn't been worth a darn for the last two years.
You feel better? Glad i could help.Do you just have half this forum on ignore? How could you think you’re the only one underwhelmed with Caserio? There’s literally a member who only posts about how much he dislikes Carstereo!

By what measurable? He sucked as good as any of the Texans listed. If a QB sucks….suck bad enough to gain great draft position…..don’t suck just bad enough to leave the team in no man’s land in the draft.
The Jags made to a conference final
Bingo and was 1 quarter away from going to the Super Bowl before succumbing to Tom Brady in the 4th quarter.
Bortles played in the AFC Championship game and no Texans QB has. What's to debate?
I want to utilize the draft for long contracts lower dollars. Utilize FA to fill around and/or get that young guy just hitting his peak. We did miss on center but Skoronski would solve that. Having said that, not what i see Nick doing. He's putting favor on Kenyon to be the guy and I hope he is not only healthy but fits the system. A day 2 pick should bring our center of future. One year? That's not a splash, it's a puddle!
