Was anyone else embarassed?

swtbound07

Jackass of Day!
When we went for the 2 point conversion after scoring a garbage time touchdown? To me, it was absurd and ridiculous, and made us look sad.

Considering that we somehow managed to score 28 points in a matter of minutes last week, I would say that it was in line. You never know when you'll make a comeback, and thus should take all of the chances you can when you're in a hole that deep.

It did not embarass me because I do not value my self-worth based on what my favorite football team does on the field.

Thank goodness.

Actually I found our entire performace liberating, as it was much easier to turn off the game and either go do something productive or hang out with my fiancee, who thinks I watch too much football.

She may be wrong, but at least the Texans sucking like that made the decision easy.

Oh, and I started the Chargers DST and Antonio Gates in my office league fantasy football team, so at least there was some taste of victory.

It won't be embarrassing until I walk into work tomorrow. Funny how I get the business when they lose, and everyone's a Texans fan when they win.

i almost turned it off...but i felt bad after walking out on the tennessee game...and i don't want to be that kind of fan. Im trying to convert my girl into a texans fan...but damn they aren't making it easy. This season, she's watched the colts game, the tennessee game, and the san diego game.

Totally.
But that was just one little piece.
Our coaches had already given up. You could see it by how we ran the ball so much. We chewed up clock right and left. If you are down that much, and you run the ball, you better not huddle up after.
But they did.
Then after chewing up clock, they go for two? Lunacy.

And this is someone you claim to love???

:joker:

Pittman throwing the ball over Turk's head and then watching that goofy jerk run toward the ball, trip over his own legs, and watch Cromartie get a TD was about the pinnacle of embarssment for me

Stanley would have covered that ball.

And to think Pittman and Turk have been two of our brightest spots this year.

I don't get embarassed, I get mad!! I'm still fuming over the Titan game. NOW, after watching that mess yesterday, I'm about stroke level.! BUT, on a positive note! My garage is clean, my yard is raked, my flower beds are cleaned out, roof and gutters are clean, (thanks to Shadow) and I just about wore out my new washing machine! I'm tired today, but, still a little mad at our Texans!! Maybe I should just call it SAD today!

I watched the whole Titan game and could tell at the point on the moonshot snap that this was not going to be the Titan game part two. Thank all that is holy that my son's B-day was yesterday and I had to leave. Wife asked me if I wanted to set the DVR for the rest of the game and I told her to not clog up the space. I have never left a game early in my life...any sport...that one would have had me telling my self I couldn't get my money back, at least try and recover some of the time I was going to lose.

Its obviously convenient right now to have a snotty, elitists attitute about the Texans performance yestereday.
But as for me, I can't help it but I pretty much live and die with my team so the game yesterday was down right embarrassing.

I agree. I felt sick to my stomach after that. How the hell could he let that happen? He is like 400 frikkin years old.... he should know how to act in that situation without tripping his dang self.

To me it just looked like he didn't know what to do.

Snotty, elitists attitude?

What was snotty about TC's comments?

This is how I look at it. I'm not a player or a coach and am otherwise unaffiliated with the organization. I don't pay the kind of money it takes to go to games because I don't have it to spend on what I view as a luxury purchase and if I did pay it I could stop doing that at any time.

In other words, I do not whatsoever affect the outcome of these games which are--for perspective, completely trivial in the scheme of life next to family or the fulfillment of chasing my own personal accomplishments--so why should I be embarrassed for how a bunch of grown strangers play the game of football, just because they happen to be from my home town?

I'll happily cheer for the Texans through good and bad until doing so no longer gives me personal satisfaction. I will continue to wish them the best because it's more fun to watch winners. And I know fans who spend a lot of money on a team feel a vested personal interest, but I'm with TC when I say they may have embarrassed themselves and others yesterday, but not me.

Then it sounds like you to have a superior, an indifferent attitute about the Texans performance yesterday. For you, its just a 3 hour diversion, strictly recreational.
For me, I'm a real fan. Like I said, I live and die with the team and its performaces, so to speak. It's much more than just 3 hours out of the day on Sundays for me.

Richard Justice thought the Texans were an embarrassment to the fans, the city, your momma and just about anyone else he could think of.

For about 5 minutes.

Then he edited his blog to remove that statement. Sigh.

Am I personally embarrassed? I'm embarrassed FOR the Texans, but not to be a fan. I'm not the one signing talent or playing or coaching. I subscribe to the "reflected glory / deflected shame" ideology when it comes to sports.*

I could sit here like sooooooooo many folks and get my undies in a frothing twist over how badly the Texans played, but bitching about it isn't going to make the problems more apparent to the powers that be or make the suckage go away. I love having constructive conversations about what the Texans need to do to change, but living in the lingering pain and frustration over a loss is just a wee bit overplayed. Makes this particular forum a dreadful RETREAD from week to week of people posting doom and gloom, from the "team is too soft" to "hire Marty or Cowher" to "we need people who play with passion!"

No **** sherlock...and this time next week? More "insightful" frustrated ramblings on why the team and player X and coach Y suck. There are some real gems of insightfulness here and there amidst the hammering on the "Begin Self-Destruct Launch Sequence" button, but its draining to read the same thing over and over again. This is becoming almost pathological and masochistic.

*(This does not include the Chicago Cubs, who have made wallowing in their shame a generational and genetic trait)

Actually I found our entire performace liberating, as it was much easier to turn off the game and either go do something productive or hang out with my fiancee, who thinks I watch too much football.

I was at a family reunion yesterday, and most of them are not football fans. But they know I'm a Texans fanatic, so they had the game on.

After watching the first half with me, they just kept asking me the rest of the day why I subject myself to it. That part is a bit embarrassing.

My own self-worth comes from things I can control, so my take is that they lost and I watched.

However, my embarrassment comes from feeling like I'm wasting my time and money by being a fanatic of a lost cause and a crappy product for 6 straight seasons. When I think I see a light at the end of the tunnel, it turns out to be a train.

It won't be embarrassing until I walk into work tomorrow. Funny how I get the business when they lose, and everyone's a Texans fan when they win.

yeah, it's funny that way. I've got 5 copies of the Houston Chronicle's sports page left on my desk today. "A total embarrassment" is the headline. I'm starting to think that the Texans need to pay me to even give a crap anymore. The players look like they've given up and don't care, so I have to ask myself over and over why do I care.

Pittman throwing the ball over Turk's head and then watching that goofy jerk run toward the ball, trip over his own legs, and watch Cromartie get a TD was about the pinnacle of embarssment for me

yup, mine too. my steeler fan friend who I watch the games with, well the Turk 'play' happens and its replayed over and over and he just looked at me with this look like he wanted to make fun of me but he just didn't have it in him....he just couldn't do it. he honestly felt sorry for our current plight and that Turk play was like the rock bottom and he must have been taught not to kick a dog when he is down..because he didn't

that play was the most unathletic play ever in the history of the National Football League.

I won't slam him too much because I was one of the ones riding Stanley out of town...doesnt feel right

Tell me about it, I have a Colts fan and a Jags fan and a Dallas right next to me and I get it every friggin week. The first two weeks they did not say anything and the third I did not get much because it was the Colts, but after that it has been a total pissing contest on who can piss on me the most.

As for the reason we subject ourselves to this, because we love the sport and the team and are hoping eventually it will pay off and you can say I never jumped off, if you jump off and they turn it around you would not be happy about that either.

Must spread rep.....

I feel your pain bro. I had a feeling that we would lose yesterday but I thought it wouldn't get that out of hand. I had to endure the 2005 season with 3 Pittsburgh Steelers fans,2 New England Patriots fans, and a lot of other fans that didn't know crap about football. So I got plenty of newspapers on my desk on Monday. That was one long season......This is almost turning into that. At least we already have 3 wins. So essentially it will not be bad as 2005, or will it?

Maybe if we keep sucking it will be much sweeter when we start winning. Right now the pill is very bitter........

I agree with RJs origional take, before the deletion. He should have left it in his blog IMO.
Football is not a game to the players because its their livelihood. That's why its caused pro football. And for the SD players the wildfires didn't reduce their livelihood to just a game. Its how they make their living, pay the bills, save for their futures, etc.
As for the real fans, football isn't our livelihood. But it can still be an integral part of our lives. Others who feel strongly about their team know this, those who don't really think we're kinda strange for taking a "game" so seriously.
So like I was saying, I go along with Justices origionional blog thoughts before he amended it.

Tell them that it's easy to be a fan when your team is doing well, but when the down years come, you can't wait for them to slither back into their own little dens of fair-weather-fandom.

Although I too am guilty of it, why do we point fingers and laugh at the fans when they have NO CONTROL over what their team does? Is it like choosing the worst shirt from your closet and wearing it as if you thought it was fashionable? Is that how it goes? Are we laughing stocks because we choose to be fans of a team that's sucking? We could Easy Button it up and switch allegiences, but that's like lying about your birthplace. You can't just arbitrarily decide to be a fan of a team you have no connection too. "Oh, I'm Pats fan now...although I've never been to New England, have no relatives there and vaguely know something about the Boston Tea Party."

Seriously.

I think people laugh and point because they know you won't change your mind. Once they hear your a Texans fan they know you aren't a front runner. Bandwagon? You couldn't find one around here.

My friends laugh at me because they KNOW I will be a fan forever. Good thing is most of my friends around here are Dolphins fans ha ha ha.

Great point, man. If you're still a Texans fan, it doesn't matter to which 'degree'. No way does someone bandwagon this team after these past 5.5 seasons!

Glad to know you are certified as "real" then.

No one has said that my attitude or fan approach is superior--matter of fact it seems to me your posturing response is the one that has most strongly issued that sentiment.

I won't mock your loss and I am sorry for it. If there is an upside to being 27 and just getting started financially with my career, it's that my Texans investment has to date been minimal. When I did regularly attend the games, practices and the like it was because I was fortunate to receive gratis tickets from a close friend who worked there. He doesn't any more and so I'm relegated to watching from my couch, which, to be honest, isn't such a bad deal.

Good question and your answer only dampens my ability to "feel" much of any regret after watching a shalacking like that.

Its obviously convenient right now to have a snotty, elitists attitute about the Texans performance yestereday.
But as for me, I can't help it but I pretty much live and die with my team so the game yesterday was down right embarrassing.

Snotty and elitist? Where does that come from?

I am just saying how I feel. I do not live or die by the Texans because I know what living and dying are all about. Football is recreation and entertainment and escapism, but unfortunately they aren't terribly entertaining right now.

I do not need to prove my fandom to anyone. I care about the team, I want them to win a ton, I have spent considerable energy, effort and time trying to help them. But I ain't about to be embarrassed by anything they do because I'm not coaching them nor do I suit up. I can't control what they do, so I will do the things that I can do as a fan to help, and not feel embarrassed for things I didn't do.

I think a lot of fans get too high when things are good and too low when things are bad. That's not a good practice for a team to do, and it is probably not a good course of action for fans either. Life is too short and precious and precarious to feel horrible on a beautiful day because your favorite team played another head scratching game. Each year, 31 teams are losers. It's just the way it goes. The Texans have just been a little more losery.

I understand when people hate when others give you grief about stuff the Texans do because you are someone that people know as a fan. I always try to hope that out of bad stuff, good stuff happens. That if a defense is so obviously clueless, maybe this means that we can get rid of Richard Smith, for example. In my life, I've learned that sometimes the things you thought were the worst stuff, ends up turning out well. I also believe in the cliche that adversity builds character, and when the Texans come out of their funk, the Texans will have the strongest, most loyal fans that exist, fans that will really appreciate when things are good.

The Texans lost to a good Chargers team, mostly by shooting themselves in the foot. They ended up getting more injuries during that loss. They need the bye week to come more than just about any team, and they are going to be facing a Raiders team with their own problems.

Who knows, maybe they get a win on the road, heal up, and do some nice things down the stretch? Maybe they keep stinking up the joint, get a nice draft pick and are able to trade down or something. I don't know what things have in store--that's what makes football one of the more entertaining real reality shows.

I came to grips with how much stuff like this affects me. I literally got so worked up over the Falcon's loss, that I got sick to my stomach...then suddenly it hit me.

Why on earth do I put THAT much into something that has ZERO affect on my life, or the outcome of it. I then started prioritizing what was more important to me right now, and soon it all came into perspective.

It's just a game. They're just a team. They happen to be the team I root for, but win or lose, it don't reposition my standing in life one iota.

Bandwagon...I think not.

Realist...most definitely.

Alrighty...start the tomato toss! :tomato:

Could not agree more. I have come to the same realization. I still will watch every game I can, but I let it affect my day way too much. At halftime I started watching SpongeBob Square Pants with the kid. I tell you I bet I had more fun than most of you in the second half.

I survived Buffalo and KC. I can survive this easily. This game won't be replayed annually on NFL Network for the next 20 years so in a few weeks this will fade.

I was mad as hell. I get mad with every loss. Then I remember that we are what we are. I just remember I didn't think we were going to be good at the beginning of the year and we're not. I go to my happy place where we have the draft and think about what we might be able to do in free agency. Then I'm not so embarassed.

Mike

It was like having a root canal all over again. I felt bad...and embarrassed, but I think the only thing that would have made me feel worse if I were on the feild, in uniform taking that beatdown. You don't come back from something like that easily.

At halftime I started watching SpongeBob Square Pants with the kid. I tell you I bet I had more fun than most of you in the second half.

Wished I had to opportunity to do that as well. You are right...we probably would've loved the relief...

Rep your way on the SpongeBob move. Thanks for the idea...
