Dunta. I feel that the DLine will help and since we have better depth in secondary (relative to horrible) we may see him blitz the QB more often which I feel he does very well.

I voted for Matt, but really think that a lot of players are going to "turn it up a notch".

From what I have been reading and hearing it sounds like the whole team in general is more focused and excited about this year and seem to be further ahead teamwise than they were at this time last year.

We probably will not make it to the Super Bowl this year, but really feel we will surprise a lot of people.

I think (Baring any injury) Mario is going to be the breakout player. With an improved line Weaver and Maddux, and Okoye out there I think it will give Mario alot of chances to be in the backfield early. Plus I'm sick and tired of hearing about those other two guys. You know the scrubs that the Titans and Saints drafted.:mario3:

I voted Owen. I think that he was ignored a lot last season and still had a good year. I think that Matt will be looking for him more and getting the ball to him.

I guarantee Schaub will do more for this team than he ever has before. :user:

He got my vote for more practical reasons as well.

The rookies really don't belong in this poll. How can someone "turn it up" if they've never played in the league before???

In fact, you could argue that Schaub doesn't belong, since he's only had spot starts and mop-up duty, this is his first season as "the man".

I voted for D-Rob. From what I've seen during the three TC sessions I've been to, he looks like a Man on a Mission.

Wow. My thoughts exactly.

Owen Daniels. Before he hit the rookie wall last year he was having a very fine rookie season. I think he'll be even better this season. My guess is that he finishes the season 2nd in receptions behind Andre Johnson since we don't have a prominent #2 WR.

I went with Daniels. If anyone is going to benefit from Schuab being here its Daniels.

I went with D-Rob. I think our secondary is by far the best that its ever been and could rival some of the better units in the league. In TC from what ive seen Dunta is laying the hat and playing like the pro bowler caliber player that he is. As much as I want Mario to become the player he is supposed to this year i think this is Dunta'a year

Is Travis in his contract year? Or does he have another year to go?

That will usually motivate a player...:money:

:coffee:

I went with Mathis. For some reason, I think he stays healthy and gets some time at WR. We know what he can do at KR, but I think he gives us a huge help at WR with his speed. I've heard good things about him in practice and I hope he can step up.

Daniels and all the TEs biggest benefactor was Kubiak and his TE oriented system no matter who the QB is.
But I'm thinking TJ might be the real sleeper this year for a turnaround and may leave the Amobe pick looking pretty redundant and unnecessary by year-end.

if he is performing like eveyone says.

He practiced well the day I was there and Kubiak had some nice things to say the practice before. I am very cautiously optimistic. We all want a WR speed merchant, but the hammy and how he copes with injuries while still showing progress at WR is still not answered for his long term prospects on this team.

I went with 'other' for Kasey Studdard. I realize he's a rookie and some people have problems with rookies being on this list. Studdard is turning it on and just may very well threaten to take away the starting 'C' slot away from McKinney and Flanaghan(sp?). That's what I'd consider turning it on and breaking out into the league.

Studdard may not have the size but he definitely has the smarts and a nasty streak. A lot of people consider the LT slot to be the most important. I've started to revert my opinion on the subject after seeing Jeff Saturday anchor the Colts' line. Brains and brawn is a combination that's extremely rare and I've been reading that Studdard has both hence him being considered for the position in TC.

Sadly, he'll most likely be grossly overlooked and Schaub or Green would get the credit. It sucks to be in the trenches sometimes. It all begins with the offensive line.

Don't misunderstand. I think that our line is just fine as it is. I'm just saying that we have problems but we're solid. Studdard would be a great addition if he turns out to be the player that I'm hoping for.

I really think we got a steal with Studdard in the sixth round.

.

You've seen him get Center reps? I haven't. All I've seen is 58, 76, and white 63 at C.

I know about G's and C's and all that .. but I'm just saying, I have yet to see him snap a ball in camp - not saying it hasn't happened. He's built more like a Center. Listed at 6-3 but I doubt it.

Right now, Kasey's probably ahead of Hodgdon at G. Kubiak likes Brisiel too... Hodgdon is likely cut..

No I have not. I have not attended a camp just yet (August 15th PM!) so I have nothing concrete to go on with but with what I have read on these boards. I'm fairly certain that on more than one occasion, he's being considered at the 'C' slot albeit I cannot back it up. I just took that as to him being put to practice at the position. What I HAVE read as well is that Kubiak is extremely pleased with Studdard and it would be a very good chance that he gets a fair amount of playing time. Will it be at Guard? Sure but splitting time is not what I'm hoping for out of Studdard and I would assume the same for Kubiak wanting the same hence him taking the 'C' slot.

It'd take a lot to upsurp Weary and Pitts and Studdard's best bet is take that 'C' slot since Flanaghan and McKinney have a shaky history thus far.

Kasey's best shot is at guard not at center. I think he at least makes the practice squad if not the final 53. That way they can bring him up in case Weary gets tazered again.
(I know, that was tacky)
:)

back to topic - They brought Chris White in from GB to compete with Flanagan, McKinney (who I think is the best of the bunch), and Hodgdon for the center job. All of those guys can play both C and G so no one has a double-duty advantage. And since Kubiak came out and said that Chris White has been "impressive" and has leap frogged Hodgdon on the depth chart, I would agree that spells trouble for Drew's chances of making the 53.

I voted for Owen Daniels but I think that there are a few others (D-Rob, Schaub and Mario) that will make big strides. From what I have read and heard, D-Rob is acting almost as if this is his rookie season again now that DC is gone. Kinda like a fresh start for everyone. Owen edged him out because I think that he was really coming along fine until his injury and now that we have a QB that can go through progressions (hopefully!!), he might get checked down to more often instead of standing there and watching a pass go to AJ in triple coverage.

Hodgdon isn't getting reps at Center from what I've seen. Yes, he has some experience there but he's been getting almost all of his reps at G for a while. He is likely a goner.

IMO, the rookies and Schaub belong on the poll as much as anyone since the poll is on BREAKOUT player of '07 NOT Most Improved or anything like that. D-Rob HAD his breakout year as a rookie. He was noticed by the entire league. His production has since dropped off since he doesn't have AG across from him. I voted for Mario. I think he's going to be an absolute MONSTER this season. All the BS from last year is behind him, or at least not as prominent AND he seems healthy and in great shape. 2 coaches chewing on his butt and a better D-line all the way around should improve his play, also.

you know the other doesn't include david carr, right? it's strictly limited to this team...haha, just messin' with you, don't get all bunched up...

but seriously, way to take the easy route and pick other but not mention anyone in specific. really putting yourself out there....

EDIT: i noticed that most people think a defensive player will be the one to stand out, but no one picked okoye...interesting...

I would've picked Okoye, but DT is a hard spot to be really "stand out" at and Mario is a #1 overall and NEEDS to perform at a "breakout" level more than anyone on the team but Schaub.

Charlie Anderson. The coaches have been raving about him since last year and he impressed me in a few plays he was in last year.

last year was just the tip of the iceberg for Owens, like Mario with a year of experience under his belt & injury free Matt Schaub will utilize the TE alot (gone are those days not so long ago when we all wondered why Billy Miller & CO. never saw the ball enough) you could see the change last season with Kubiak useing the TE in his offense, hence expect Owen Daniels to have a breakout season, pushing to be the #3 option offensively

By implying breakout i take it to mean someone who isn't passed their prime so that rules out ahman (even though i think he's going to get back to pro bowl form) & some of the other guys won't get enough touches or time to say if it's an aberation or breakout.

That only leaves Mario schaub & Okoye & i choose Mario only b/c he's in the best position for it. You can't expect much from Okoye & this is schaub's 1st real season as a starter & he could go either way.
