Now that Kyle Shanahan has been promoted to QB coach, is DC as good as gone? One of the reasons Kubes was hired was to fix DC. One year into Project DC someone else is taking over. I also find it ironic that of all the QB's and receivers DC was the only person Kyle was unable to get a hold of.

Or was Kubes wearing to many hats and finally farming out other team duties?

Lil Kyle was offense quality control at Tampa Bay working with QBs and Receivers. I think it fits, and it means that now Kyle will be the go between for Carr and Kubiak. Kubiak will still be the main QB coach, HC, and OC, but this allows him to focus more on fixing or improving whatever QB we have and managing gameplans and games better. We will need a Receivers coach.

I am on the other side of the coin, lil Kyle (love the nickname) and Carr seem to click together and if Carr was going to be out the door, an experinced Qb coach would have been named. I do not think Lil Kyle would be asked to show Plummer the ropes and take a rookie QB under his wing. No matter how much of a future guru the guy is, that is too much of him.

I agree, but I'm concerned about who the O-line coach is going to be. Other than QB, it needs alot of coaching. IMO, we need an experienced coach for our O-line. Not only to coach the remaining squad, but to blend in whoever we pick up in the offseason without disrupting whatever cohesiveness we had, if any.:)

Actually moving a guy who is young and who has little experience would fit perfect with a guy like Plummer or a vet because it would be less teaching and more on the job learning and talking.

Great. A QB coach who is still wearing a bib and working toward eating solid foods.

42-15

I just don't think a vet would listen to a 27 year old QB coach and I don't think Kubes would put lil Kyle in that situation.

He has to learn sometime. Add to that, why would a 27 year old QB coach be able to fix a QB who has been broke on our team. Honestly, I'm not going to read to much on either side of it. I'm sure they are just putting pieces in place because of guys leaving, etc.

What do you think Carr is after half a decade of starting in the NFL? Carr has nearly 80 NFL starts.

I think you guys maybe reading too much into this.

Kubiak may have a good relationship with Kyle and Kyle understands and listens well to Kubiak and follows the orders to the T. Basically, this could be just really an assistant position to the QB coach while he carries a bigger title to pad his resume.

I guess what I am saying is, I don't think this really means Carr is staying or going.

There are 32 teams in the league, there are a shortage of experienced and well qualified players and coaches. Every team is going to have some young and inexperienced people at key positions.

Maybe it is nothing more than my gut speaking... Plummer has been successful on a level Carr has not. I just do not see Kubes promoting Kyle if Plummer is coming. With Carr footwork, confidence, and pocket presence has been his biggest downfalls. I feel Kyle was given this position with the intention that he was the most qualified to deliver in those specific areas. Plus they seem to have the relationship to accomplish those objectives.

I apologize in advance that this posting is nothing more than my gut and is not based on any factual evidence.

I guess this beats promoting the TE coach to QB coach....I guess.

No flippin Kidding........

Speaking of Kyle, did any of you see Dre blow up at Kyle in the last game vs the browns. It was after the "PI" call were they said he pushed off. Dre was not happy and when Dre is mad and you have a young coach trying to talk to him that is just not going to work.

I hope they get a good WR coach in here thats not younger than Dre and knows what he is talking about.

Anyone know of any????????

Yea its going to be hard for lil kyle to really get on to QBs when they do something wrong, or try to tell them what to do

I don't see him being too young for the position. Coaches at all positions are getting youger. How old was Bill Cowher when he became head coach? Like 34, 36?
Sounds like Kyle is right in line as far as age goes.

Jerry Rice.

Only if you could pry him away from that 'Dancing With The Stars' gig...

but then you have the problem of having to hire coaches that will listen to or be subordinate to Kubiak. Not sure if Rice is down with that...

Jeez. Kubiak could take a different car to work one day, and yall would take it as a sign that Mario's career as a Texan is over.

Oh, looks like Kubiak got a haircut, must mean big changes in the org.

Fade = They're moving Babin to DT to add more pass rush, Moving Bruener to swing tackle, and Andre Johnson throws a pass on the fake reverse at least once a game.

Buzzcut = Cut all players over 28, fill their positions street FA, and move John Benton to Assistant Offensive Co-ordinater

Afro = Trade Carr, Taylor, Mathis, Peek, Faggins, and a 2nd round pick in 2008 for Ladanian Tomlinson, kidnap Carson Palmer and put Quincy Porters jersey on him, get Larry Fitzgerald really hammered and convince him to leave the Cardinals and sign with the Texans.

What if Kubiak decided to trade in his family "carr" for a truck or sports car?:shades:

My 11 yr old nephew Andrew is available. Who do I send the resume to, HR or the nursery?

Oh! I get it... because you see our QB's name is "Carr" which is promounced like a "car" or in laymen's terms, an au-to-mo-bile. And he subsitituted, the player's name for the inanimate object "car" as a way of insinuating a "replacement" of our QB, even though people were talking about the automobile type car.

Sakes alive! There has to be some sort of rule against replaying the same old joke in every freaking thread.

right on--you'd think those extreme carr haters return would think of something more original, or maybe offer possible solutions. i mean, i would like to see a solution that doesnt involve him, but i dont rehash played out play on words.

Don't get me wrong... I am pretty pissed at Carr's performance this year... just want to get a little more sophistication to the arsenal is all I am asking for...

I think this is like a trial and both sides have made they cases ... now it's up to Judge Bob , Judge Rick , and Judge Gary to render a verdict .

I have to wonder if Kyle is being groomed for OC in 2008 after Sherman is hired as a HC somewhere else.

This whole thing has favoritism over qualification written all over it, and makes my skepticism alarm go off.

My kidding in another thread aside - this move doesn't say anything about David Carr or who the QBs will be next year. Kubiak is the QB coach, and Shanahan is going to be working under Kubiak's instruction.

Your first sentence is my thought.

As for your second sentence, I disagree. I've seen a bunch of the Texans coaches do chalk talks, some better than others. Kyle Shanahan's was very impressive. I had a choice as to whose talk I was going to watch, and I chose to watch his because I was very skeptical about his initial hiring like a lot of the people on the MB, but I came out believing that he was one of those people that can help Kubiak communicate his message of what he is trying to do.

KS is a coach's kid, only son, who played D I football for a good program despite being in his words "slow." He lives football, and when he talks football you forget how young he is.

This is what I wrote about him last summer:

Link: "Mario Williams is big, and slightly less obvious observations.

One of the stories he told was how he tried to get Gruden to change one aspect of the offensive line blocking to make it more like the way Denver does it. Gruden was intrigued by it, but in the end, decided to do things more conventionally.

It was this chalk talk that really opened my eyes to what is possible with this offense, but how difficult it would be to get all the players knowing what they are supposed to do. It also made me realize how much the Denver blocking scheme is intrinsically important to the entire offense. (Making the run blocking/pass blocking look the same to Ds + cut blocks).

The first drives of a lot of the games with the scripted plays were often the most successful ones because they players could do and not think. KS showed how really subtle things (ones that you would in a million years not notice on TiVO), made the plays work or not work.

I know with his age it is easy to be dismissive of him, but look around the league and see who is being hired as head coaches. Lots of young guys in the league.

As for the topic of the post, I think it writes nothing on the wall. Kubiak will still be very involved with the QBs, but Shanahan is someone that knows what Kubiak is trying to get his QBs to do. How deep the QB rollouts are supposed to be? Where he is supposed to look at the field at a particular time? Etc.

Thanks for sharing TC. But as a fan for the last five years I do not want my HC commited to time with an asset that has provided no real return. Kubiak is solid and we need his shine to scale across the team rather than localized to a position. I sincerely hope that the development of all three units and emerging young players are not stunted due to more special attention paid to Carr by our HC.

You dont know Kubiak very well if you think that, thats the last thing Carr gets from him.

You thought you guys were hard on him, the only difference is, he believes in him and is pushing him hard to be one of the best.

This whole Kyle Shanahan thing reeks of nepotism. Doing chalk talks for fans is one thing - being able to help turn mediocre NFL quarterbacks into good ones is another. Just because you have a Chris & Kyle BFF tattoo on your ankle doesn't mean you know what makes a QB tick. Why is this any better than Greg Roman? Genes?

Kyle is acctually a pretty smart guy when it comes to Xs and Os, he did not go home and read up on how to coach QBs on the internet like Romey did. He is easy to get along with, and has played in college un like the others. The only thing knocking him is his age, how can a guy that is 8 years younger then me going to tell me how to do my job, which is why he is not Dres WRs coach anymore.

And I also know they will not be throwing into trash cans for a half hour, that was the way to make our QBs better in the past around here. O and throw over laters and throwing at dots not moving (that is acctually a good one.)........

Kubes works with them more anyway.

Rome when they asked him to be the QBs coach-:yikes:

Actually, I was getting the vibe from interviews and articles that the opposite was happening. That Kubiak-the-HC was overwhelmed with the vastness of the HC'ing duties and didn't have time to be Kubiak-the-QC. It was, afterall, his first year as a HC and I'm sure he (Kubiak) learned a lot about managing the team and managing his time....

I don't believe he's through yet with his tutelage of DC and teaching him "the system". I would be very surprised if DC is not back next year...

It would probably be difficult for any accomplished veteran player to listen to a position coach with so little experience.

I don't see how this is going to help anything other than Kyle's resume since he's obviously on a fast track to somewhere - whether he's earned it or not. Can you imagine if we had an accomplished veteran QB in here and Kyle tried to tell him what to do?

I think this job is basically Kubiak telling Kyle to 'keep an eye on the QBs for me and here's what to look out for.'

It would seem you would start Shanahan as QB coach with someone who knows the system and glad to be here . It would be for a QB who did'nt need a lot of buffing when it comes to mechanics .

Yeah well, if one of Buddy Ryan's sons was on the Market , you would then turn your nose at him because ? Mora Jr. ? You guys are just silly. Next coaching change...put your names in the hat. Let Kubiak coach. His groceries. His stew. Buy yourselves some midol and get over yourselves.

Sounds like Kyle is right in line as far as age goes.

His age doesn't bother me--it's his lack of experience. Too, he's not walking into a 'situation' that is settled and would require minimal 'management.' We've got a lot of work to do to be sussessful at the QB position and Kyle is in charge of that, with a 'deck' that is stacked against him...talk about learning on the run/on the go...

Rob Ryan's defense was 3rd in the NFL this year in yards allowed, despite their crap offense.

Mora Jr. has a winning record as an NFL head coach.

Shanahan Jr. has/is ... [Mad Dog Pete....please fill in this blank when you wake up from your bender this afternoon - then tell me which of the three don't belong in this conversation]

I doubt it, and I doubt very highly that Kyle looks at it like that too. Thats what I think, he is not the greatest but he is beter then Rome and thats all I care about.

He's better than the guy who had about as much business being a QB coach as I did. Yeah, very comforting.

Set your goals low and you will probably achieve them.

I think Kyle will be Kubiak's watchdog over the QBs and nothing more. What original thoughts (based on his playing expereince) can Kyle bring to a veteran NFL QB about mechanics, reads, managing game situations, etc.? The answer is none. Everything he gives will be based on film study and what others have told him, and none will be from personal experience, except as a back up receiver in college. I realize there are other QB coaches that haven't played the position but this one bugs me more because of the family ties.

Like I said earlier, this is a great situation for Kyle. He's building an awesome resume at a young age and learning the ropes of how an NFL offense works. Whether he's really bringing that much to the table (other than all that coaching 'gene' ious) is another question.

Can anyone translate this for me?

I can, I use to speak drunk, so let me give it a shot...

I am drunk. I need some groceries but can't drive. The head coach is good, let him construct his own team the way he wants. You guys can come over and watch the Super Bowl with me if I sober up in time... We wll be having some Buddy Ryan Stew...

I think that is what it said...

Not taking sides here AJ ...:dangit:...but was Rob Ryan and Mora Jr both born with experience or were they given opportunities.

Robs dad was a coach. (does Rob still have a job now?)
Mora Jrs dad, well, he tried his hand at coaching. ( Is Mora Jr. working now?)
Shannys dad is a coach. (still employed by a successful orginization.)

Why not be in the conversation?

I think the jury should be out on Shanny Jr, and he should not be assumed to be a nepotism hire.

But thats just my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions.

Carry on.
