NFLdraftcountdown updated mock Jan. 16...finally

It said that the Redskins don't pick again until the fifth round!!!!!!! What the hell is going on in washington.. How can they not have any picks from rounds 2-4.. that's insane...

They traded them away. I don't think it makes much difference to Washington since their off season is all about FA acquitions any way. Snyder doesn't care about money.

I was going to paste it for you hulk, but now it's not opening for me either. It was a solid mock with good long explanations for each pick.

Can someone copy and paste it, I cant get on it for some reason. Thanks

I was going to paste it for you hulk, but now it's not opening for me either. It was a solid mock with good long explanations for each pick.

Glad to see I am not the only one that it won't open for. (Wonder if the bad weather accross the country has something to do with it being down.)

8. HOUSTON TEXANS
ADRIAN PETERSON RB | Oklahoma | Scouting Report
Some may be surprised to see Peterson fall this far but not only is it possible but at this point it's almost likely. While nobody doubts his phenomenal talent there are some major durability concerns with Peterson, who was never even able to make it through a full college season without getting hurt and missing time. There are few things that will frustrate a team more than an injury-prone running back which is why he's still on the board here. The Texans actually already have a solid running back with durability problems in Domanick Williams (formerly Davis) but he's coming off a major injury and can't be counted on at this point and they certainly can't go into another season expecting the likes of Ron Dayne, Wali Lundy and Samkon Gado to carry the load. Some may counter that Gary Kubiak comes from the Denver system and doesn't believe in using first round picks on runners but they failed to turn the also-rans they had into studs like the Broncos consistently do and Peterson is a rare prospect. Bringing in a local hometown hero like Peterson might also alleviate some of the pain the Houston fan base feels and help eliminate some of the ill will that has been aimed at the franchise since they took a pass on Vince Young.

Yes, Mr. Wright. Palestine is just next door to Houston. That's if you live about 170 miles from your next door neighbor. Simliar to the Jets drafting a "hometown hero" out of Philly. BTW, I thought the Texans were supposed to be ridiculed for passing over Reggie Bush? I wish these draft experts would get their stories straight.

They've done quite a bit of homework and therefor give some support to their
take, though as Lucky pointed out Palestine, TX is hardly a Houston suburb.

Scott Wright should put a :bag: over his head for this simply terrible mock. picks are based on need over bpa :dontknowa

Yeah but if you are doing a mock draft you are doing what you think will happen. Most teams draft based on need. I think it is pretty accurate. Especially the top 5.

I see JaMarcus going to the Raiders and Quinn going to the browns. For some reason I just picture it that way in my mind.

I couldn't copy and paste the whole thing..hopefully its working better now we can see it..I'll do it long hand so people don't have to go to it. I think its a pretty good mock. Also if you click on Scouting Report in the top right corner of each person/pick...it has some good things about their strengths, weakness, and notes....not all players are finished I don't think.

I bolded the players I could see the Texans drafting if 1)they fell to us 2)or we traded down a few spots. These imo are the most talked about players for us drafting in the 1st.

1.Oakland------------JAMARCUS RUSSELL
2.Detroit -------------JOE THOMAS
3.Cleveland-----------BRADY QUINN
4.Tampa Bay---------CALVIN JOHNSON
5.Arizona-------------ALAN BRANCH
6.Washington---------GAINES ADAMS
7.Minnessota----------JAMAAL ANDERSON
8.HOUSTON-----------ADRIAN PETERSON
9.Miami----------------AMOBI OKOYE
10.Atlanta-------------LEON HALL
11.San Francisco------TED GINN, JR.
12.Buffalo-------------LEVI BROWN
13.St. Louis-----------LAWRENCE TIMMONS
14.Carolina------------LARON LANDRY
15.Pittsburgh----------ADAM CARRIKER
16.Green Bay----------MARSHAWN LYNCH
17.jacksonville---------COLT BRENNAN
18.Cincinnati-----------DEMARCUS TYLER
19.tennessee----------DWAYNE JARRETT
20.New York (G)-------DARRELLE REVIS
21.Denver-------------QUENTIN MOSES
22.Dallas---------------REGGIE NELSON
23.Kansas City---------QUINN PITCOCK
24.New England (SEA)--MARCUS MCCAULEY
25.New York (J)--------DAYMEION HUGHES
26.Philadelphia---------MICAEL GRIFFIN
27.New Orleans--------PAUL POSLUSZNY
28.New England--------DWAYNE BOWE
29.Baltimore-----------JARVIS MOSS
30.San Diego----------SIDNEY RICE
31.Indianapolis---------PATRICK WILLIS
32.Chicago------------JUSTIN BLALOCK

Players not in the first round here that may fall to us in the 2nd that would be interesting to pick up....comments please? (w/ Peterson as our pick...or w/o..who then )

-Brandon Meriweather FS Miami
-Charles Johnson DE Georgia
-Victor Abiamiri DE Notre Dame
-Brandon Mebane DT California
-Chris Houston CB Arkansas
-H.B. Blades LB Pittsburgh
-Buster Davis LB Florida St.
-Rufus Alexander LB Oklahoma
-Earl Everett LB Florida
-Antonio Pittman HB Ohio St.
-Ryan Kalil C Sothern Cal

some may be 3rd rds...some may be gone by us in 3rd...who else am i missing...I know some OL

AP in the 1st and Meriweather in the second would be a great start to the draft IMO. I wouldn't be upset if it wound up J. Anderson and Meriweather either.

I think our first 3 rounds that would make the most impact for us is:

1. Adrian Peterson
2. Brandon Meriweather
3. Ryan Kalil

1. Will he fall to us? maybe!..if he does..do we pass?!
2. He may be taken late 1st...before us in the 2nd (Arizona?) or in the 3rd rd.
3. Could be taken late first? Most likely wont last to us with our 3rd..but I'd hope so.

We would still need to look at other OL (FA and 2nd day), CB (doubt FA, some sleeper from small school?), LB (pick up a stud (2nd day), DT (FA? maybe in 4th?

Lot of positions...one of each there would be all our picks...let's start looking at 2008 draft! only kidding, we'll wait till 2007 week 3 or 4 i'm guessing!

Peterson is a good fit here. But there are so many needs that a plethera of those top players will be available.

On one of the thread I was reading yesterday on NFL Draft count down, Scott Wright said there is shortage of OT in this draft and all the OT will be gone by top 1/3 of the second round.

He believes, there is plenty of team who needs OT this year and some will reach to draft 3rd round value in 2nd round.

31.Indianapolis---------PATRICK WILLIS

If he fell that far I would really consider trading up for him. Ya I know we have to many needs to trade up. But still I would consider it.

i think that brady quinn will still go to the raiders..and i can see russell going to the browns..regardless, we will get a great player with that draft pick

I don't know, I think if the Raiders are going to go with a QB then Russell is totally the type that they would be looking for, more flashy, much better physical abilities and potential, and a huge arm. On the contrary, I think Quinn fits more of what Cleveland would be looking for, more of a controlled, probably smarter and more experienced QB, probably a little more accurate and a better decision maker, not to mention he's from that area. Similarly, if Detroit was to take a QB I think they'd prefer Brady Quinn, although I don't think they are going to take a QB in the 1st round. That said, I could see any of those teams using their 1st pick on a different position. Cleveland could definitely take Adrian Peterson, Alan Branch, or even Joe Thomas if available, and the Raiders could look at Calvin Johnson or maybe Joe Thomas or Adrian Peterson, and Detroit could likely take Joe Thomas or Jamaal Anderson or Gaines Adams, whoever grades out as the better pass rusher.

just the first shoe to fall off Scott Wrights foot- QB Colt Brennan announced this evening that he is rescinding his application to enter the 2007 draft and will return to school for his senior season next fall. so I guess that only affects picks 17 & down :shades:

I just find it hard to believe that the Lions and Browns both pass on Quinn if he is highly rated as folks have him. They both need a QB. Moreover, I would imagine that Weis and Crennel will be talking a lot about Quinn.

If Cleve does not go with Quinn then perhaps Thomas is available. I believe with Crennel being on the chopping block he either positions a player that suits his core, defense, or goes with best OT in the draft. If he does not have a say then I can see the Browns FO taking Quinn to have a foundation for a future coach to work with on O - Quinn, Edwards and Winslow.

I think Cleveland is more likely to take him than Detroit is. Both teams have a lot of things that need to be fixed, although Detroit probably has more big needs than Cleveland. Detroit has said they don't intend to take a 1st round QB (take that for what it's worth) and are happy with Kitna for now, so I think they'd take Joe Thomas to shore up their pass protection or maybe a pass rusher like Jamaal Anderson or Gaines Adams if they grade out high enough. Adrian Peterson to Cleveland was a popular pick in mock drafts for a while, but I think Droughns is a pretty solid back and they have enough other needs that I'm currently leaning towards them passing on AP, plus I hope he falls to us. I could also see them taking Alan Branch, maybe Joe Thomas if he falls, or else a CB if one grades out high enough.

Yea I agree we really need all the picks we can get..there are so many needs and can have starters....like this year going into the 4th/5th rounds.

BUT...I would love to trade up and grab Patrick Willis from the Colts. I don't know what we'd really have to give up..maybe our 2nd and 3rd for their 1st and 4th? I think those points are roughly similiar...and they may actually go for that. i don't know if I would though.

but we'd get Willis to put next to Ryans for the next decade and have two of the best youngest LB's in all of football...if only merriman was with 'em! Plus we wouldn't have to Face Patrick twice a year for a long time to come..I'd rather face Peyton. lol

I could also see them taking Alan Branch, maybe Joe Thomas if he falls, or else a CB if one grades out high enough.

I think when people notice the Browns nose tackle with 16 years in the league and his backup on IR, it is easy to write in Alan Branch for Cleveland's 1st pic.

yeah your probably right, that would set up rather nicely for Romeo Crennel's predecessor :heh:

look he is going to fight for his job & take the best playmaker available with that first pick to help Frye succeed & for him to keep his job.

That's what I'm afraid of. But that may be a quicker ticket out of there in the FO eyes...Branch is starting to sound like the sound choice if the starter is 16 year vet and the back up is injured. a smarter decision for the franchise. But i dont know the browns too well. I'd fire my coach if if he didn't fix that and the player to fix the NT is rated high too. but thats just me.

Scott wright has said he will come out with second round picks on Thursday. So keep checking the board.

Now that Colt Brennen has decided to stay in school so he will also update that in the first round.

this is what you should be afraid of- not picking your franchise player (we should know a little something about this if your a Brown fan or not) then addressing that dire need latter (2nd rd. Cal Brandon Mebane) or FA even if you have to reach a little bit or overpay to fill it. the fastest way to stay on the job is to win in the NFL, you don't pass on that difference maker for need. but thats just me.

I no doubt agree with you...but a needs a need even if it is a DT which is a huge part of the defense. It's not the sexy pick...but neither are their uniforms jk but seriously they arent

Why is Aaron Ross not a first rounder? Every time I watch him play I think wow...and every time I watch Quentin Moses play I think UGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

I get the feeling that Crennel is going to be one of those coaches who doesn't do well his first time as a head coach, but is going to succeed his second time. Kind of like Bill Belichek. He wasn't that great when he was the coach of the Browns, but look at him now. I don't know why I think this. Just a gut feeling.

I like the idea. I would like to hear yall's thoughts on trading D.Carr and T. Johnson to Cleveland for their 3rd round pick. That would fill the void for us if we gave up our 2&3 to the Colts.

Additionally, Trade down 5 spots to #13 and get their 3rd for our 4th

1. #13 Best safety
1. #31 Patrick Willis

Defense would really take a shot in the arm with those two additions

The Colts are drafting a DT...Patrick Willis can fall to us in the 2nd. If not, I don't want to trade up for him. S is a bigger need than LB.

I'm not sure why the Texans would take Gonzales in the second. Seems like CB, LB, or FS would be a more pressing need.

Yeah, it seems like all these guys are better options RYAN KALIL, JOE STALEY, RYAN HARRIS, BRANDON MERIWEATHER , AARON ROSS then Gonzalez at WR.

Maybe for the same reason they show us picking #40, we have the #39 pick. I think we go OL or DB in 2nd rd anyway.

Well he's got the two cover corners going in the second. Like I posted, if you want one ...Petie insurance, going to have to take him at the thrty nine. We might get Clemments or Samuels.

Agreed. Maybe it's the playmaker quote. Nothing wrong with Anderson or Walters that a extra half second from the o-line won't cure. Someone was banging me about the centers...there goes one. Four to go.

And he's got another in his top thirty. C/G means something there big guy. That's three one to go. Fifth round ?

I like Gonzalez, but not that round and not for the Texans at all. Many nice names on that board and if Buster Davis and Lamarr Woodley are on the board we would then be set at LB in my opinion if we took either. On to the 3rd and 4th we would then be looking at FS, C or BPA.

I was reading Scott Wright thread few days ago in which he had said that there is shortage of OT in this draft and too many team needs tackles this year. According to Scott all the tackles will be gone by top 1/3 of the second round and many teams will draft tackles earlier then they would have normally gone this year.

He also said that Michigan and USC tackles missed their opportunities this year. They all would have gone in the top 10 if they had declared this year.
