Where do you rank on how much you like preparing and doing research for the draft?

Last year I got kinda into looking at the different players even writing down each position and who I liked.

This year, I found myself DVR'ing freaking bowl games to look at people lol.

Im gonna give me an 8 where are you?
 
A 3. I happily admit I don't follow the college game that much. I ate crow last year in predicting USC would drill UT and have since resolved to either pay closer attention to the game (no time) or withhold judgment (much easier.) As the draft nears I start to read up on draft reports, watch the tape I can get my hands on, and talk to the handful of pro scouts I know, but at the end of the day I leave the real "scouting" to my friends.
 
2. i'm not analyzing the whole team needs thing or all the peripherals of the draft. i just like young talent coming in and reading scouting reports and trying to make sense of it all. basically any draft except for nhl gets me pumped up. MLB gets me the most excited cuz mlb.com has great draft coverage even though its not televised. scouting videos and reports on their website.

If that's only an 8 I am a 2, lol.
 
Im about a 6. Im extremely well versed in my particular areas of expertise, the ACC, more specifically florida state. Im very weak about midwest prospects, and slightly less versed about the west coast, but I watch a lot of games down south. I read the scouting reports, and watch the clips, but at the end its just gut instinct.
 
If you rank yourself a 6 or above, you have serious 'quality of life' issues.
 
I give me a 9. I no longer watch college football for the entertainment, but to scout guys. I watch every game I can, I watch the combine, the senior bowl, the senior bowl practices, and if I had TiVo, it would mostly consist of college football. I don't do mock drafts because they are rarely slightly right. I found maybe one or two mock drafts that had more than 3 correct first round picks last year. I just organize the guys in terms of who would help the team more.
 
I am probably a 5, based on the standard set in the orignal post. I follow it reasonably closely but don't review tape to develop my own opinions. Also don't want to admit that I have any "quality of life" issues
 
I'm not going to lie, I pretty much don't give a darn about NFL football except the Texans and young guys I watched develop since college. I TiVo games for prospects, create scouting reports, and do mocks. This is my favorite part of football and what I actually hope to do as a career when I approach that plateau (Director of Player Scouting).

I give myself an honest 10.
 
O, I have a job and I am going to college next year. I will probally attempt to walk onto a program as well. I have plenty a social life as well, I just happen to be a draft nut.
 
I'm maybe a 1 or a 2. I read the popular media stuff and watch most of the draft shows on TV (like the combine and stuff like that). I work from home in front of my computer all day (programmer) and I basically work with my TV on in the background.

I actually first came to this site during last year's draft to see what other Texan fans were feeling about us taking Mario #1... and then I got sucked into the draft thread and I've been here ever since, although I've primarily stayed in the Bullpen. I'm really looking forward to being a little better informed going into this draft because of the info in this MB.
 
I am a 4.5. I will do mocks, and I will read about players, and figure out team needs, but I am not into it as much as some of yall!
 
I'm a 3 or 4, but I give the guys in here a score of 9 or 10. Some of you guys have amazing insight and I'm thankful to read your posts. Not "behind kissing", it's a fact.

My downfall is I fall head over heels with guys I watch in games (usually Aggies) and I want them in the pros. BTW....can we draft Jovorskie Lane in 2 years? :shades:
 
I will say a 7, don't follow the college games, but really start reading on them when the season is over.
 
A two at most. Hardly ever watch college games until bowl time and then look at the ones that have guys in them that folks seem to think would help the Texans.
 
I am a 2.5 and going up. I find myself following college more and more to see who will play on Sundays, but I am no where near where a lot of you guys are.
 
id say a 2-3...dont see any college games due to geographical and tv reasons but go to alot of mock sites and read other 'draftniks' to come up with a rough idea of players etc...love the draft though and its being shown over here for the 1st time ever this year (cheers to self:))

DVR the big games and a couple of random games throughout the year, consult several scouting sites (free and subscription) and watch college football only in the context of the prospects for the NFL. As a result, I like to think I avoid the trap of falling for the "local boys" or even the local conference.

I make draft boards and have charts of other team needs that I compare with the rumor mill to find out what other teams are planning.
 
I'm in the 5/5.5 zone Know most of the big names rounds 1-4. I usully pick up two or three of the draft mags as it gets closer. Watch a lot of acc, and big east, and SEC. when I have time.
 
Somewhere in the 2 range. I watch college football, but as I watch it's almost exclusively about X's and O's. Of course I take notice where notice is due and remember players here and there. I guess me saying I'm a 2 is generous because some of you guys are all about it. I envy that quality but don't wish it on myself. I'll just listen to some of my buddys and you guys for the good dirt.

I thought I was the only one who had to eat several servings of fried crow...

I also predicted that, not because UT wasn't a good football team, but because I thought USC was a great team...

With that said, I rate myself a 5. I always come here to find out what the "experts" have to say on the players. They know exactly who we will draft and why. It's all in fun..

Have never missed a draft day 1 or 2 for quite a few years now. I find it as entertaining as the Super Bowl, and more than some of those...

I love to listen to Mel Kiper. Now there is a man who knows everything about everything... LOL :hides:
 
I watch a lot of football...college...pro...highschool...

If football is on, that's pretty much what I'll be watching....But I couldn't sit here and honestly say that I am an "expert" or "nut"....I find it hard to say I can give my own thorough evaluation of every player on the teams I DO get to see, much less the hundreds of players from different teams across the country....

I'd give myself a 4....
 
I say around 7.


I watch most of the bowl games and follow many players through out the year.

I also DVRed the entire combine so I could watch it.

I DVRed the senior bowls and watch them. I even watched them practice.

To answer the question about quality of life issues. I am a student and only go to class at night time.
 
Probalby about a 6 (to avoid quality of life issues) ;)

When college football is on it will be on both TVs in my living room from the time College Gameday starts until the last down is played (usually around midnight). I honestly don't watch the game to scout draft prospects but with all the hours I put in watching college games I get a pretty good feel for where the talent is. (At least when it comes to the guys I get to see on TV.)

I think I'm about a four. I make a point of following the top guys on the preseason boards. I do not watch as much film as I need to. I do try to read up on the opinions of others on top prospects. It's the biggest poker game on the planet. I'm involved but not totally commited. I think I'm better than fair judge of tallent.
 
i wake up every morning about 5 and from about 5:30 to 7:30 i resurch players and peoples opinions of them. i normally try and do about 20 players a day... i figure that if i work fairly hard leading up to the draft i will be able to post my college footballs top "1,000 draft prospects" for yall to enjoy!!!!!!:marionaner:

You're a 10, no question about that. I think we could even start a fun game called "find a draft prospect kastofsna DOESN'T know about". I put myself at a 9.5 or 10, I cant watch a college football game without scouting players and all I pay way too much attention to the draft. Being curious about who Houston would draft in 2004 is what made me such a huge Texan and Draft fan.
 
i don't follow anything lower than Division 1A and there are teams that i havent even seen this year (baylor is one). can't give myself a 10.

As a Texas Tech student I got to see them play my school and person, and I can honestly say you didnt miss a thing. Filani was able to go deep on them several times, and Filani probably runs a 4.6 at best so its not saying much about their D. Sepulveda is a good punter and the program is moving in the right direction, thats about it.

I watch TiVo'd KU games and other various Big 12 games a lot. You miss nothing on Baylor. Their best prospect is probally going to be an UDFA P.

Jon Cornish from KU is a sleeper RB to watch for. We don't really have much else to offer the NFL.

Look out for our Soph. CB though. Weird name, but really good.
 
I'd give myself a 3. I watch as much college ball as my friends and family allow as I'm a complete NFL nut!!! But I always catch the Bowl games and have descent judgement of talent.

I'm with you Goldeagle. I give me an 8. I've already emailed my friends my 1st mock draft. I pay for ESPN insider and nfldraftscouts.com to see how the kids go up and down the draft boards. I look at GBNreport.com every day. My friends & I clear NFL draft weekend to watch the draft and all sports that are on for two days. (Usually three TV's)
If I had NFL network, I'd tape the NFL combine reports. (I can't give me a 9 or 10 because I won't switch to satellite to get NFL Network)
....and I STILL did not know who Owen Daniels was when we chose him on day two! I said: "Why not take Ko Simpson there?"
I miss Joel Buschbaum!
