Texans random thought of the day

Watching the Packers and Chiefs game. I saw the Packers running counter plays for their RBs out of the shotgun.

Random thought. If Pierce's issue with this offense is naturally seeing the cutback lanes, wouldn't running counters help him find the cutback lanes while having the defense hesitate slightly to the point of attack?

Agree. I think teams study your RBs tendencies just like they do your QB and receivers and even olinemen and they seem to have Pierce's number this year.

That or set up behind our best run blocker and just pound the darn rock.
We can't keep putting Stroud in harm's way - we've been lucky the last two weeks but it only takes one injury to put him out for the season or worse.
Eagles fans should think the same when it comes to Hurts? Patriots shouldn’t have did that with Brady either for all those years.
That’s football, it’s a risky job.

Denver is one of, if not the worst, run defenses in the league and they pretty much stuffed us outside of a nice run or 2 we pulled off.
Right, I was thinking this would be another game for us to rack up some rushing yards. It only gets harder the rest of the way.
On the passing side I'm worried because it just doesn't seem like things are running near as smooth as they were for a while there. For a while it seemed Stroud would hit the back of his drop and be getting the ball out pretty quick. Not so much these past few weeks.

Missing Tank & Schultz probably slowed Cj down a bit.

I thought of Brady but Texans don't have the experience or the oline to pull that off continuously - the Eagles Oline also leaves ours in the shade.

I am really getting tired of local media acting like this. I am hearing it on the radio too. Apparently we don’t love the Texans because we won’t spend close to a $1000 to take a family to a game.

Can’t eat cake when I don’t have any bread.

Yeah it's all bullshit. Back in the day I would've agreed with him, but I can't ridicule anyone for not going to a game. They have priced the common man smooth out of the stadium. Then throw in historic rising prices on everything..I just simply no longer can justify spending the amount of money it takes to attend the games. I'd rather save that money and take a nice vacation with my family. People only have so much "entertainment" dollars. Real rich getting ripped by a man who's paid to attend the games. 🙄

Having said that, I'm sure next year the crowds will be different.. Those tickets were probably already bought before the season even started and people knew what Stroud or the Texans were going to be this year.

Wait a minute. Besides Schaub. Didn't Tom Savage also suffer an injury from a QB sneak or was it BOB's ED offense that left him concussed?
I was talking about season ending injuries on QB sneaks.

But you're right Savage career was derailed by that concussion. He would have had a chance to carve out a career as a backup.

When’s the last time Pancakes paid to attend a football game? Ever? If you don’t do it STFU about others. That goes for the rest of the media who get in free with their media passes and the millionaire players chiming in about it too.

In the 18 years I had season tickets they tripled in price. And the point they were at their highest is when the Texans were sinking to the bottom. And I would have kept my tickets and sold them but at that time I couldn’t even give them away. Literally.

So I don’t begrudge ticket buyers who want to try to make a little back on their investment. If that means selling to opposing fans who will pay outrageous prices then so be it.

It’s already bad enough for all the services we have to pay for just to watch this f***ing game at home anymore. So screw you Pancakes McClain!! Until you’ve paid for one f***ing game shut your cake hole.

I just gotta keep reminding myself they're not talking about me.

They're talking about that guy who will spend his money to go to a game. I'm not him.

Even in this goofed up economy, there are a bunch of fans who will spend kazillions to be at the game. Nothing wrong with that. A bunch of "those" fans showed up for Denver, why not H-Town?

I know why. Like someone else said, those tickets were bought a long time ago before we knew what this team would look like. As someone else said, that's going to be different next year.

I do agree, McPancake & the rest of the media ain't got nothing to say since they're not paying to go to games.

Isn't it amazing how much better the Texans defense looks with a healthy Stingley/Ward on the backend of the defense.

Also a reliable veteran in Desmond King. Not just in coverage but as a tackler.

Being where you’re supposed to be cannot be overstated, especially when a team runs as much zone as this one. Can’t believe they let King walk but i’m glad they fixed that and brought him back.

Remember, the Steelers picked up King, then let him walk. After that, any team could pick him up. The Texans did.

Evidence points to King being the problem in these cases. Now, he seems to have turned everything around. A little time on the street can make a player hungry.

Right - dreams start fading plus now, he is on a good, exciting team.

The way they used him in the Nickle Sunday I just kept thinking why would they ever keep Murray over King..... as the third safety, Nickle back King just looks more versatile & physical.

I’ve given up wondering why teams let King go. He’s always been a solid player on the field. Maybe he questions the coaches too much or some other off field reason personality wise that he doesn’t mesh?

It’s similar to Brandin Cooks without the trading price tag. A talented productive player that wears out his welcome perhaps?

I am hopeful that these last five games are the last of Eric Murray on our roster. He has done as much on injury report this year as he has in his contract with us.
Interestingly, we have approximately one and a half million dollars of dead money for Desmond king.

A good pickup. 4 years with the Bears, 4 years with the Packers, and was released by the Jets this year by his request. Has been healthy. Has high grades in run support and tackling. Grades not so good in Coverage. Career numbers, he's been targeted 356 times, giving up 245 receptions (68.8%) and 26 tds. Has 13 ints.
I don't remember the details but this last off season, I included him on part trade offer discussion. I'm hoping he will be quality depth.
Amos (6-foot, 214 pounds) has 659 career tackles, 10 interceptions, three forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries. He has played in 11 games this season with three starts and has 23 tackles. Released last week, Amos has a lot of knowledge of the Jets’ personnel heading into Sunday’s game against the Texans.

Not sure how much his deal with us will be but about $1 million I think left on his deal with Jets.

I'd look to trade DP this offseason. If we could get the 4th we used on him...that would be a win. Not sure if he's going to draw that. Don't know what the market would be after such a bad year. He's got game...but just isn't fit for this offense. He's missing his keys and cutback lanes too often. He'd look good at Dallas, NE, and a few other spots.

For 2024, I'm looking in the 2nd-4th rounds for a true one-cut-and-go runner that fits this offense. In short, an Arian Foster type. If possible, I'd re-sign Singletary to be in the mix as well. And I also like Boone as my 3rd guy.
I'll say it again.............you can't expect to make a power runner into a ZBS runner.

The Houston Texans are voluntarily handcuffing themselves with Dameon Pierce

Despite being an inferior running back, the Houston Texans continue to lean on Dameon Pierce.

We think DeMeco Ryans is the best rookie coach of the lot, and is the best new hire for the 2023 season. We think the Houston Texans are in capable hands with the former Texans linebacker. We think the team has a bright future. But we also are wondering what the heck Ryans is doing sometimes.

For some reason, he continues to play Dameon Pierce, despite being utterly useless in the rushing game.

Pierce led the team in rushing attempts on the day, with 15 carries for 41 yards and a touchdown against the Denver Broncos, averaging out just 2.7 yards per carry. Not only are his numbers unimpressive, they're also seemingly cursed. When Pierce finally does score a touchdown, the resulting play ends up injuring Tank Dell in the process, ending his season. So even when he is somewhat effective, he still ends up handcuffing the team.

Now, we know it's not his fault Dell got hurt, but it does seem like karma was trying to send Ryans a message to stop playing Pierce so much and focus on Devin Singletary, who had five fewer yards than Pierce on the day and had seven fewer carries. Singletary had just eight rushing attempts for 36 yards (4.5 yards per carry) and continues to be frozen out of the Texans' offense by the coaching staff, following Pierce's return from injury.

Pierce isn't good, for some reason every person can see he's struggling to get anything going this year but Ryans. We're not sure what Pierce has on Ryans, but it's got to be something to be this ineffective and still get the bulk of the carries. Singletary has proven on more than one occasion this season that not only is he the better runner compared to Pierce, but he can also carry the entire load if asked to.

Ryans needs to wake up and stop giving Pierce so many touches that would be better served to go to Singletary.

just a guess but I think Ryans hoping to ^ DPs stats to trade in off season; not working. Ryans is loyal to his vets but this is ridiculous,

Very rare to get a starting safety this time of year. Bonus points that he was just on the team for our next opponent giving the team time to pick his brain.

I feel much more comfortable with Amos as the 3rd safety than what was on the roster. Another solid veteran in the secondary.
This could be another find for Caserio even if Amos basically fell into his lap. Stronger safeties help Sting and could turn Nelson's year into a pro-bowl.

They certainly can use the depth.

They're stuck with Pierce this season the carries need to be reversed.

Whoever wanted Urban Meyer as their NFL head coach is a willing moron.....Meyer was saying on a podcast that Stroud wasn't a leader in the huddle like a JT Barret or Fields, didn't own it enough for him, pfft GTFO, just go away forever
I remember him saying those exact same things what a nimrod :smiliepalm:

Usually teams should listen to a guys college HC. (Spurrier/Clowney)

In this case Meyer got it wrong.
Meyer is garbage. Probably most despised yet successful Head Football Coach in my lifetime. So out of touch with reality, living in his own world, just a brand name that’s running on empty.

Like you said though, he's been wildly successful at all of his stops in college football. Sometimes even the best get things wrong.

Some people can't handle success

I’ve had to jump off the cliff as a Charger fan. It’s an LA thing. They need to move back to San Diego or free Herbert. Can’t take anymore :shots:
I did not want them to leave San Diego but think the NFL desperately wanted a team in Los Angeles. I don't see them going back to San Diego. Do you?

Some people can't handle success
I would say over the last 20 years he's handled success pretty well. Some people have an issue with successful people in life and football. Look at Belichek and Brady. Guess what most successful people don't care what others think of them.

Do you think his wife agrees with you?
