DW4 Traded to Cleveland

I think picks should be the primary return. Texans are in full rebuild mode and should focus on adding as many young players as possible.

Problem with lots of picks is A: its a crap shoot on if the player will be good and B: their contracts can all come up around the same time making your cap management tricky. With getting a young player or two someone else has already rolled the dice so now you can see exactly what that player can do plus you don't over lap on the cap.

Agreed and really it doesn't help their case because, depending on what they offered, he knows that team is going to be losing out on a lot to get him so if he goes to a team because they have X player and then finds out X player is part of the trade package it might change his mind. That being said teams have done dumber things.

I would hope the Texans or at least the nfl have someone present and monitoring dw's meetings with the teams. It would be easy for dw to sabotage a trade if teams are discussing their trade proposals with him. (Tampering and or collusion?)

Ruiz is their weakest link among the starters, but he's only going into his 3rd season. PFF grades are subjective, so his 57.6 may need to be taken with a grain of salt.

What worries me is that he plays between an excellent tackle and a decent center and was average at best last year.

Ooops. My bad. I thought he'd been drafted last year for some reason.

As I predicted yesterday the Browns stood no chance because they are the Browns, in the AFC, in Cleveland, and have terrible fall weather. I don't think Carolina is getting him either as they don't have the glamour of NO or ATL in my opinion and don't have superstar playmakers (McInjury is always hurt and will never be 1/2 of what he was before). I think its Saints and Falcons who will both love Watson unconditionally. He should go to Falcons, but he will choose the Saints because that means we will get "Texaned" again with a sorry #18 pick and future ones in the 20s (basically) no top 18 first round picks for a top 10 franchise QB in his 20s. That is the Texans way.

I guess the Falcons could be in the drivers seat since Watson’s home and family are nearby. Not to mention, the Falcons may have a suitor for QB, Matt Ryan in the Colts….who are also desperate for a QB1. Falcons would also be in a better position to bring in Watson’s contract than the Saints. I’m sliding my chips into the Falcons corner.

& Watson reached out to the Falcons. They weren't at the table, until Watson invited them.

I gotta agree. ATL has a really solid ownership situation too.
And they know Watson from his past.
Of course this makes way too much sense and this is HOU so…..

I thought any team can suspend a player for being a detriment to the team?
Absolutely not. The NFL Personal Conduct Policy specifically places suspension in the hands of the Commissioner and his discipline committee. [See page 5....."DISCIPLINE"].

The only action a team can take is to make the player inactive or not allow the player to play (essentially what the Texans did last season).............but as opposed to the League suspension, the player must be paid during that period.

Some on this MB claimed he was doing this already down on Kirby.

Recall the Jesus in Cleats comment from the departed Clemson guy? Wonder why we dont hear from that guy anymore?

Interesting enough, a quick forum search reveals that YOU were the first one to ever connect Watson and "Jesus in cleats" around here.

As a matter of fact, forum history shows that you said it many, many more times before the guy you mention above replied to it.

Ironically, the guy you are talking about is no longer allowed to post here.

I agree with you to a point. Sure, take a minute…but at the same time, he’s been sitting on his ass for a whole year & he’s had more than enough time to contemplate. I’m also sure there’s been some back-channel communicating thru agents too.

The other thing too is we’re assuming this is him holding everything up b/c of how it is being reported. For all we know, He may already know where he wants to go, he’s just waiting to announce. we may just be waiting on NC and the team to hammer out the details /finish negotiating.
That wasn’t me.

Yes, and I went along with yours and others who asked me not to refer to him as this, even though it broke no forum rules. I did this out of respect for MB members that I've grown to know and befriend over the yrs.

Did not know about the poster no longer being able to post here.

If he chooses the Saints, I hope Caserio nixes the trade and goes back to the drawing board. If it takes another year, so be it. For the Saints, Watson would make them instant contenders for the NFC South title.
