Plus if Cal lets this play out the Texans will suck next yr and in 2022 have the ability to pick a top QB. Then trade DW4 for as much as if they traded him tomorrow. In a way for the good of the NFL as a whole and for the Texans I hope Cal sticks to his guns and doesn't trade DW4.
My attitude is embrace the suck as a fan. We know it's coming, like winter in GoT, so there is no point fretting about it. Just have to hope it doesn't last too long. I can't imagine how Browns fans stayed interested after a couple of decades of it.
I'm at a weird spot in time with Houston sports. Now that Watt is gone, I'm looking for that "next man up", the next guy that will pick up the torch and run with it.
I was born in Houston in '67. It seems there was always someone in the world of professional sports that I could be proud of, someone that represented the city of Houston. As I get older, my interest in the world of sports has waned; and to be honest, I'm kind of sad about that. And it's the stuff that went on with the Astros, and now the Texans being in such disarray, it just pushes me further away.
I'd love it if Watson would just make a simple statement that he's ready to win a championship for Houston. That would help get me interested again. But honestly, I don't think that's going to happen. If he does play for the Texans again, it won't be because he wants the long suffering Houstonians to be in the spotlight for something good for a change. It will be because he feels like he has to.
Same boat here. I'll always be a Houston fan, but as I've gotten older, my perspective has shifted from it being part of my identity as a fan to all of it just being entertainment. Once that switch happened, it's like seeing the fat man behind the curtain in the Wizard of Oz, I just can't go back. I blame 35-3 for the killing of my 'fan innocence'. lol
That said, the Rockets and Astros championships were fun as heck. I love the vibe in the city and I'm happy for Houston fans when it happens. It's a weird vicarious experience, but there is a collective joy in the air when the home team wins a championship. I can't even imagine how it would feel if a Houston football team ever won a Super Bowl.
I don't understand people who feel this way. This Astros championship brought me great joy. How can you let the DW4 act make you not want to watch sports?
The BLM stuff has me watching less sports. Canceled my MBA league pass.
I can only speak for myself, but I don't think the attitude shift happens overnight. It was a gradual thing, realizations type of stuff mixed with a sort of pragmatic cynicism.
In the end, to paraphrase something Jerry Seinfeld once said, we're ultimately fans of laundry. And the players win. We just watch.
People call me a homer and maybe I am but I just don't see the reason to watch, read about or even talk about a team if I think there is no hope and its all doom and gloom. If I wanted that I'd turn on the news for 15 minutes, that would give me all the doom and gloom I need and then some.
Good post overall, I just clipped this part for a reply. For me, I'm a pro football fan, so I'll be watching the NFL every season regardless if the Houston team is good or not. I watched the NFL through both 2-14 seasons and will still be watching the NFL for the inevitable suck that we are about to experience in H-town. And obviously, by default, I'm a Houston kinda' guy so the Texans are "my team". *sigh* lol
And let's face it, even the doom & gloom can be entertaining if you don't get emotional about it. I'll admit, it's not even close as entertaining as actually having a great team to root for, but there is a sort of schadenfreude involved with the drama, like watching videos of stupid people doing stupid things.
