Game 1...Monday Night Football...New Orleans Saints!

This game kind of reminds me of the game the Texans had early in the season against the chargers when they pulled it out in the end...

Except this was a loss...and that team had a cratering Matt Schaub on his way to 2-14.

I say this team reminds me of that team in that I think they have some weaknesses that ultimately will cap their success level. But unlike that team this team has Deshaun Watson and some bomb ass receivers so this team will have a shot every week.

Kinda saying the same thing. I'm anxious to see how they build off this game. You're already seeing it as if they're the same team from that 2-14 team.

We should decimate the Jags next week. Let's see how that goes.

Nobody said anything about celebrating.

Just imagine we killed another 10 seconds on our last drive. What would Saints fans be saying about their defense.

Bill O'Brien made mistakes. Sean Payton made mistakes.

I'm more interested in how we build on this game than I am the actual outcome. 1st game of the season. On the road. Monday night. Out of conference opponent.

Man exactly...... you can’t fix stupid man........ long developing plays all game and all of a sudden when we got down Watson is finding Guys in stride....... he’s a special kinda stupid this O Brien guy smh

Works both ways though. NO had Watson pretty much figured out all game. They play him on the last drive like they had all game, this game ends at 27-21.

Teams love straying from what's working for them at the end of games for some reason, though. It's a nationwide phenomenan. That's how Houston went up 28-27; thats how NO won 30-28.

... because the organization is in shambles, being run by a coach who still can not manage a game and is a poor offensive playcaller, unable to adjust in game... I never wanted the Texans to sign Clowney to a long term deal, but I did want him to play under the franchise tag this year... and he could have been valuable today... and, if the organization planned to let him go, then there should have been work done this off-season to add a pass rush. IT IS A MESS!

This !!!! If we can’t create any pass rush becuz any good coordinater is just gonna triple team Watt and take jimmy out the game and make somebody else beat em which we don’t have smh

So depressing

I'm just not getting this. I can't see how any Texans fan can witness the last Texans drive & not be filled with hope.

I think I may have been misunderstood.

I'm not talking about moral victories. I'm not talking about celebrating. I understand the frustration & the angst..

But depression, I don't get it. Not tonight.

Why? How many times in the past have we seen for ourselves the players playing good enough to win but the coaches didn't? That was a coaching error that lost the game for us tonight, not the players.

But depression, I don't get it. Not tonight.

It's the way they lost that is depressing to me. I don't care it they're 11-5 if they choke in the playoffs. I thought when they scored the last touchdown we had finally shaken the monkey off our backs... but noooooooo. With only seconds left this was one of the biggest chokes in franchise history. And just like I didn't care about the 11-5, all the really good things they did tonight is meaningless if it doesn't add up to a win. But this is the kind of big game against a good team that they lose. And next week against the Jags without their QB will be the kind of game they'll win. After week one they looked like the same old OBrien Texans where it counts the most.

And 0-4 in those scenarios.

You're right. It is what it is.

The man coverage schemes have been an issue with us going back to Wade Phillips getting his ass kicked by the Pats, but you see after the fact that he can make it work with the right personnel. Romeo is a good coach he just doesn’t have the guys right now for his scheme to be elite. Or not in its current form. I think they’ll find a way to use their current guys to rush better, I’m just not sure about the corners. He’ll adjust; Romeo is a good coach.

They get some guys to up their confidence or improve, these situations will work themselves out. If not, it’s over for us but that’s true for all teams. Brees and Brady require that you give something up, there is no shutting them down in this NFL.

There was no point in the game that I thought the Texans can stop the Saints.
Watson did his best to avoid a blow out

I’m only angry at myself for getting suckered into thinking we’d win. I Charlie Browned my hope. But I’m not angry we lost because you lose enough times it just becomes routine.

We've all seen really good football teams lose games the same way that we lost today. What's different w/ us is that it's difficult to not factor in BOB's history, so he takes heat where a proven coach gets the benefit of the doubt. Taking the team that should have been in the Super Bowl last year with one of the all time best QB's to the wire in their house on primetime football is a move in the right direction IMO. There was a lot of crappy football played over the weekend and we weren't one of those teams. There are some legit criticisms of BOB for this game, but I think you're missing the bigger picture if you don't give him a pass on this one.

Spot on.

I think it’s different this time. I really do. Keep your hopes up, this was a good team.

We just lost to one of the top 4 teams in the league IMO.

My last non optimistic post, I think....but...

The nfl is littered with bad teams who have said that over the years...us included...

We took so and so to the wire!!!

Cant blame anyone for being optimistic and cant blame anyone for not...

I'm just going to watch it all unfold. Will be lots to talk about either way.

I understand. I’m just saying, give it time this year. They appear to be better than other teams we have had.
If they had won tonight I would agree with you, but I'll bet their record is no better than last year. And when they have to play a "good" team in the playoffs... how many times do we have to see that movie before we know the ending? They have to beat good teams to prove they're a good team and they were right there to do it tonight. You feel good they were in position to do it but I feel their monumental choke just reinforces they are who they are. I don't know, heartbreaking losses have always bothered me more than beat downs but if it makes you feel better that's good.

Wow,

The Matrix 31 liked your post.

Never thought I would see that.

Forcing one of the best teams in the NFL to win it based off a 58 yard field goal with less than 30 seconds to go in their house is not a choke.

This exactly. I'm not a big fan of RAC, but he has no choice but to play these guys 10yds off the LoS, otherwise it's a guaranteed TD against a QB like Brees and weapons like NO has. I'ts not RAC's fault he's been saddled with DBs who likely would not make any other NFL roster.

I dont normally go for morale victories, but I was proud of them tonight. I'm looking forward to how they rebound off this.
Same here! They didn’t look like chumps. In fact, Watson and the offense looked magical in that final touchdown drive. Looking forward to some more exciting games this season. Just hope most go our way!

Same, here’s what I saw that gave me hope. When it came down to 4th and inches with the score 0-0 I would have sworn they were about to kick a field goal, because that’s what a BoB has always done, but they actually went for and got it. Did he make some stupid calls, yeah in hindsight he did but even his double timeout I remember thinking I would have done the same.

You’re almost at half time and NO is getting the ball back anyway. You call the first TO to stop it and let the eyes in the sky tell you if it’s worth challenging. I was listening to it on the radio and even they couldn’t agree if Texans had it or not. It was that close, hell for all we know if another ref was doing the looking it might have been called. Also if we were playing another team and refs weren’t in fear for their lives about making another call against the Saints it might have been called.

We couldn't even kick the extra point!!! That's a CHOKE. The Saints give us a mulligan and then we CHOKED again. I don't care if it's Drew Brees, if you can't stop him or anyone else in 37 seconds YOU CHOKED!
Moral victories are for losers.

The tide might be beginning to turn in BOB's favor. But he still has to tighten up the clock management/time out stuff. I'm trying to root the guy on and in his 6th year, he calls a time out before challenging the play. It didn't cost us in this game, but little things like that lose games. It's got to get fixed if BOB's ever going to get this team over the hump.

Don’t agree that it’s impossible for them to complete a better pass with a TO. It’s debatable. I don’t think there are many D coordinators that aren’t going to take their chances on a 58 yard FG.

It is what it is. This team can compete, I know that.

What? They had 6 seconds left. You weren't going to get anything more than 10 yards and still have time on the clock to call a timeout. They had 2 seconds left as it was. No reason to have players 30 yards off the LOS in that situation.

Of course a 58 yarder isn't a gimme and yeah, you'll take your chances, but that's no excuse to let them even have that chance.

Yes, very encouraging that the Texans showed up to play. The run game was a very nice surprise. But a lot of the same concerns are still there. O-line, pass rush and secondary. The DBs had ZERO passes defended. And of course, the coaching strikes again. This time though it was RAC instead of OB. That was a stupid, stupid call to go into that defense with that amount of time left, knowing they could only realistically get about 10 yards to make it all work.

Like I said. If dude misses that 58 yard field goal you'd have to say the same things about Sean Payton & I don't believe that about Sean Payton.

That was a good team out there with good coaches on the sideline. Our team & our coach ran with them to the end. This is week 1. We've never looked that good game 1 under Bill O'Brien.

Given all that, we're still 0-1 and didn't beat a good team like we normally don't. For whatever reason. Maybe this is the year we go all the way, who knows that yet? For now, I'm just saying it seems like the same old stuff to me.

And we didn't win, so there is that.

My biggest question is why the hell did the secondary play so much zone against a team that is notorious for beating zone coverage?
