NFL Random Thought of the Day

Sometimes, it's better to take your butt kickin' than get up and mouth off. Just saying.

Agreed, life is all about expectations, the last 12 yrs have made fans think mediocrity is acceptable. I'm not one of those fans. Fred is, it's really simple. (Yes I know I cant do anything about how the Texans org was run under Mr. McNair. But I can give my thoughts on the Texans org on this MB? Correct)

Tell me more about those AFCCG appearances.

Usually they are mentioned when the team didn't win. If you're not 1st, you're last.

We lost to the Patriots. The same team the Jags lost to. They were lucky enough to get the Patriots in the AFCCG & not the week before.

That's all.

The announcers for the Texans game were horrible. I put NFLN's commentary crew on the same level as Fox's, which means my TV is muted for a huge portion of the game. CBS and NBC have much better announcers.

They were indeed bad. Curt Menefee had wrong names, wrong downs, wrong players and numbers. I usually like Nate Burleson with some analysis on NFLNW but he wouldn’t shut up yesterday and was actually advising Watt who is a 3 time Defensive POY what to worry about during the game. Really Nate?

It was obvious they REALLY wanted the NY rookie QB to take us to OT and pull out the win, much better story for the media. They were openly discussing that NY needed to go for the 2 point attempt to win it after they score??

So I hope y’all are watching the Pats/Steelers game. I know every single Houston Texan is. One of two things are going to happen...

A Patriots win clinches a playoff berth for the Houston Texans

—or—

A Steelers win puts the Texans in the driver’s seat for the #2 seed

Me? I’m rootin’ for those Steelers.

It makes me ill to have to cheer for the Steelers but them beating the Pats is a big help to us.

I couldn't give a crap abour AFCCG losses. You are the only person who thinks that is a sign of excellence. You are the one who accepts mediocrity not me. Never ever playing for the NFL championship in your entire history is mediocre. That only applies to two teams - the Texans and the Jaguars. I think both are mediocre, but you think that the Jaguars are great because they lost a couple of AFC championships. You are happy with never getting to the Superbowl and losing 11 or more games 87% of the time. SAD.

Even Tom Coughlin and Blake Bortles realize the Texans have been better than the Jaguars over the last 8 years. But they aren't blinded by a crazy irrational hatred of Bob McNair and Rick Smith.

Is it just me, or is the league very strong this season?
A lot of very good teams still trying to get to the post season.

Well it's good to know you're thinking.

I'm not blinded by anything.

I think injuries have played a part in bringing top teams down to the tier below. This should make for an interesting playoff season but it could get real if the top teams get healthy before the playoffs.

Well the newly rejuvenated Eagles look like they’ll be ready next week....hopefully Coutee can go or we better have a plan for the corner blitz or the blitz as a whole
The sad part is they will only need to blitz with Cox and Bennett to get pressure on Watson.
I hope OB has a plan to get that ball out quicker or there could easily be 10 sacks on him this game.
This will be a stern test for our Texans.

The Carolina Panthers’ Eric Reid played in Monday Night Football’s game this week, and when it was over he received a letter that he had to be drug tested.

That normally wouldn’t be so strange, but Reid has been tested a number of times since he started with the team just a little over two months ago.

For those that would not know, the NFL does not have any control over the NFL drug testing protocol. I have worked with the 3rd party entity that does so on several "projects," and during the Cushing controversy stayed in touch with the Director of the Lab. This entity is the most respected in the industry and in no way would take the chance of losing their reputation to the NFL for any reason. Reid is not the first, nor will he be the last player who has been randomly tested as many or more times in such a "short" period of time. Many have had drug infractions prior to this slew of testing, but some have not. The fact is that the NFL is not allowed to comment on any aspect of a particular player's process. So that the player can say whatever he wants without worry of contradiction. Not saying that this is the case now, but players have been known to deny a positive drug test and their placement into the NFL Drug Program, without the NFL being able to challenge the claim.

Stuff like this is why Reid had a problem finding a job.

More of a headache than he's worth.

Alex Smith has been at home for the past 3 days, still on antibiotics. The plates and screws originally placed to stabilize the fractures required removal because of the complicating infection. In addition, with the necessary removal of nonviable soft tissues and some bone fragments, the fractures had to be re-aligned and re-stabilized from the outside with what is called an external fixator.

[See example below, not Smith's].

Smith will require several more surgeries before its over..........surgeries that may include soft tissue replacement and bone grafting. He is still looking at a tough road ahead. I will pray that further complications do not plague this gutsy QB's reconstruction and recovery.

Unfortunately, it turns out that Josh Gordon's apparent voluntary move to turn his life around (how many times has it been so far?), turns out to be far from "voluntary." He was to be suspended indefinitely yet again.

Adam Schefter
(@AdamSchefter)

Josh Gordon now facing fifth suspension. Suspended two games in 2013 for substance abuse violation; for full season, before having it reduced to 10 games, in 2014 for same violation; for one more game in 2014 for violating team rules; and indefinitely in 2015 for substance abuse.

Tom Pelissero

#Patriots WR Josh Gordon is facing another indefinite suspension for violating terms of his reinstatement under the substance abuse policy, per source. He announced today he’s stepping away to address his mental health.

A sad case for the young man. Hope he can turn himself around for reasons outside the return to the NFL..........a return invitation which is undoubtedly never going to happen.

Browns OL coach Bob Wylie breaks ankle in practice
Posted by Charean Williams on December 20, 2018, 8:16 PM EST

Browns offensive line coach Bob Wylie, who became a star in Hard Knocks, broke his ankle in practice Thursday, Pat McManamon of ESPN reports.

Wylie underwent surgery Thursday night and could miss Sunday’s game.

“Surgery went well and we’re all wishing him a speedy recovery,” the Browns said in a statement. “He’s questionable at best for the game on Sunday.”

Assistant offensive line coach Mark Hutson will take over Wylie’s duties during Wylie’s absence.

Wylie became a household name during training camp after the HBO series featured him prominently. Wylie left his Maserati with a valet for a preseason game, among other notable scenes.

In a recent team video, Wylie played Santa Claus and his linemen reindeer.

No details were given as to how the fracture occurred. One thing for sure........a thin ankle was not made to support such unbalanced, extremely top-heavy weight. [See below]

That's my fear. Colts addressed their OL, Luck is healthy and as deadly as usual, they have receivers who can get open, a decent TE and soon, they could have a sure-fire All pro RB in the mix. They also have a full draft to work with....they'll get more answers on offense.

Bell can want in one hand & sht in the other...

The Colts have a tough young runner & probably won't be interested in over paying a mature player who sat out a whole season.

Redskins could have helped us improve our strength of victory with a win. Only matters if we're in a position to take the #1 seed and need a tie breaker vs the Chargers. So, not a huge deal, but still.

What a dream scenario for the Saints - they clinch home field throughout the playoffs and now have three weeks for injured players to heal before they need to play again.
Thanks goodness we clinched tonite with help from Pittsburg.
We can now get a couple weeks healing for our injured.

The Texans have clinched a berth, they haven't clinch the division. Still have something to play for. Win and they get a home game to start the playoffs. Lose and Colts win, Texans are a WC team.

Who'd have thunk the Seahawks would score 31 points against the Chiefs?

The way the Chiefs played & the way the Seahawks have played I'd have thought this would have been an Offensive clinic by the Chiefs. But the Seahwks are making KC earn everything.

Chiefs doing a good job answering the bell. This going to be a good one to the very end.
