Texans random thought of the day

With all the cat fighting going on in this forum you would think that the Texans were headed for another 2-14 season or worse instead of a 7 game winning streak and possibly one of the best seasons in franchise history

Smdh
We're taking a page from Herv's book.
the more we b!tch about O'Brien (or refuse to watch the games in Herv's case), the longer the win streak goes
haven't you figured that out yet?
:D

you can't please everyone all time... so you might as well please yourself

But this is getting ridiculous. Never thought this board would turn into the "official board' (without the moderators of course). More personal attacks now than ever before. Used to be a standard... ATTACK THE POST, NOT THE POSTER! Seems that's no longer the case

Face it , if Jeannie popped out of a bottle and asked , what's your wish master , you'd have somebody finding something to ***** about .

The Texans worked out wide receivers Devin Smith and Deontez Alexander and defensive back Horace Richardson.

Most notable is Smith, who was a Jets 2nd round pick in 2015. But...........he suffered broken ribs and punctured lung on the 2nd day of his rookie TC in 2015..........then tore his right ACL in Week 14.........underwent surgery and rehabbed through most of 2016, not being activated until week 10 of that season. May last year, he suffered another ACL.........the same right knee..........this time the ACL repair first required placement of bone graft, the a couple weeks later the ACL itself was reconstructed. He was cut, waived and placed on IR when he cleared waivers. He was finally cut this past June by the Jets. He has not played since his second his last ACL.

Jason Bell and Osi Umenyora do a great job presenting the highlights show on BBC over here. They bring that great swagger to punditry against the backdrop of the stiff MOTD style presentation of BBC Sports coverage that really works.

One thing that has really intrigued me last week was Jason Bell saying Osi had given him a few tips when watching Texans' tape that has totally changed his perception of our team.

Saying we are one of the most dangerous teams in the league right now, not the perception that I've been guilty of that we are a poor team on a good run.

He didn't elaborate on what he meant by this, but I wonder if it's to do with the D.

It seems like shutdown D is no longer possible in this league the way it used to be. Teams are going to be able to move the ball on you in chunks and in games where the ball will travel up and down between the 20's all day, having playmakers on the back end giving the QB lots of different looks vs having a front 7 that can bring pressure all day and play the run effectively makes us a potent combination.

I stayed up and watched post game coverage on both NFL Network and ESPN, and both networks had guys stating that the Texans are dangerous.
IIRC, James Jones, Maurice Jones-Drew and Reggie Wayne were all saying that teams need to be paying attention to them.

Very likely sign that Coutee is hurt again?

And there's where the division around here lies. If this OL suddenly gels? Looking at the talent, what on earth makes anyone think that will happen? Even if they do play "better" it's akin to pissing in your pants instead of shitting in them. ~credit to someone here saying that somewhere around here. It's still not good.

And O'Brien finally figuring out how to utilize players? Well, 4 1/2 years and waiting. I don't know why anyone believes that will happen either.

O'Brien is not a horrible coach. He is average. He can beat the bad teams, the teams he's supposed to beat, on a regular basis, but he can't beat the good teams, the teams you have to beat to win championships. 11-26 against teams better than .500. Piling up the regular season wins against mediocre to bad teams is part of the process to get to the 2nd season, and that's great and all, but that 2nd season is what this game is all about. And if the Texans aren't smashing the hapless Bengals or a 3rd string rookie QB, they're getting their shit handed to them in that 2nd season. That's not good enough.

I guess there is no need to play the last 5 games. We won't win it. Thanks, I have some spare time to rake the yard now.

Very likely sign that Coutee is hurt again?

https://www.houstontexans.com/news/keke-coutee-day-to-day-could-return-vs-browns

Keke Coutee left Monday night’s 34-17 victory against Tennessee with a hamstring injury, but could be back on a short week for Week 13.

“It’s tough,” head coach Bill O’Brien said Monday. “He’s a great kid. He never had that problem at Texas Tech. So, I don’t know. I think it’s something that – it’s tough. I don’t know the extent of it right now. I think that it’s a day-to-day and I think he’ll be trending toward being able to play against Cleveland, but just overall dealing with that type of injury for a young player is not easy.”

The rookie wide receiver caught two passes for 14 yards before exiting the game in the third quarter. DeAndre Carter entered the game for Coutee and caught one pass for 14 yards.

Coutee, inactive for Weeks 1-3 and Weeks 8-9 with a hamstring injury, recorded a team-high 77 receiving yards on five receptions at Washington. Through six games with two starts, Coutee has caught 28 passes for 287 yards and one touchdown.

Coutee needs to spend every single day of the summer doing squats, lunges and stability exercises this is ridiculous.

Small sample size, but I like how he ran this route, got in and out of his break pretty darn well

DeAndre Carter is split out right here. Watch him get into his route and able to find the soft spot running the out. He looks like a slot player that fits what they are looking for. 14 yard gain. #Texans pic.twitter.com/HK5BMoN6Zb

Watson missed a 62 yard TD on that play because whoever was in slot right got off the line clean and was open with no safety over the top

If he was in charge of fixing your computer it would work for a couple of days and crash again. Lol

it would work incredibly well for the first hour, have some lag/connection issues in the 2nd but still be viable enough, but in the 3rd and 4th hours it would catch on fire and probably burn down your house. But it's cool though he will fix it by giving you a free keyboard and mouse that everyone else passed on

Deshaun Watson

QB
Texans

Watson doesn't get enough credit for being a second-year starter who missed most of his rookie season with a torn ACL. It's incredible what he's already accomplishing. Watson showed against Tennessee that his ability to get outside the pocket is back to his rookie form.

2018 stats: 11 games | 66.1 pct | 2,807 pass yds | 8.4 ypa | 20 pass TD | 9 INT | 345 rush yds | 2 rush TD

The Saints had their 10 game winning streak broken tonight. Therefore, the Texans now with their 8 game winning streak have the longest active winning streak in the NFL.

Caught an explanation by a former WR (didn't get his name)on 610 explaining Mathieu's flub that allowed TD vs Titans. Said it looked to him that Badger did what he was supposed to by releasing his opponent when he did and running to assist where he did. Said the Titans called correct play that was executed perfectly. In hindsight, I say ..oh.

Everybody talks about the Texans winning 8 in a row, nobody mentions that they lost 9 in a row before that. JS
And your point?

There's a reason no one is mentioning it. It's because it's not relevant. 6 of those 9 were last season which has jack to do with this season. The 9 loss streak has zero effect on the fact they have the 2nd best record in the AFC. But you keep focusing on those losses. Sounds like great fun. JS

If it was in the afternoon is was Clint Stoerner, who is an ex QB. His and Cecil Shorts segments are the only ones I listen to on the triple threat now that TJ is gone. Mathieu also said this on twitter, and said he forgives Witten for analyzing the play wrong lmao

I understood that explanation to be the same thing Witten said. When Badger saw the TE blocking, he did what he was supposed to do.

But that was the design of the play. It was designed to fool the safety, which it did.

Like a double move on a CB. We fault the CB when he bites o the double move. We fault the LBs when they bite on a play fake.

It may be understandable why Mathieu did what he did, but we fault the safety when he falls for the fake block by the TE.

well the Texans' D seldom sees that sort of offensive creativity here soooo
:D

That reminds of the time the Bucs were focused on their 40-some years of ineptitude while they were hoisting up their Lombardi trophy..

Or the Patriots for that matter .. save for one good run prior to the Belichek/Brady era the New England Patriots were the laughingstock of the NFL.

That would be the case if it was OBs fault. lol

but it wasn't a fake block, like a double move is a fake cut. It was a real block, the tight end stayed in to block, and leaked out late. We run similar concepts when we need to help our tackles out. In a quarters coverage, which is what Stoerner thinks it was and what HB implied it was when you see your man stay into block you move onto the double team. Sometimes its just as simple as a perfect play call will win out even if you execute perfectly.
