Injury Thread

Was it Hannah Storm? If so, I used to work with her brother Stuart at Athlete's Foot at Memorial City Mall. He and I would call his sister at the station when she was just an up and coming FM DJ.

Doc I'm really surprised Colvin could be back; thought he was out for season.
The only reasonable scenario I could see this occurring is if Colvin sustained only a "plain" ankle ligament grade III tear without fracture . But even in that case, rehab will take ~4-8 (usually closer to 6-8) weeks and full return to training 8-10 weeks to have any chance of reasonable performance with lesser chance of re-injury when he finally allowed to return to actual game play. Keep in mind that with a grade III ankle ligament tear, that ligament after healing will still be stretched and looser than pre-injury leaving the ankle with some semblance of permanent instability.............that's why ankle sprains tend to be associated with recurrence and chronicity. You might also keep in mind that Colvin was placed on IR in 2016 for a similar ankle injury. My guess is that the team is thinking of trying to bring him back earlier than ideal, heavily taped and/or braced in attempt to bolster their poor CB situation.

Kayvon Webster was a full go at practice today, and is supposedly in line to play Sunday night

Also according to Cody Stoots Fuller said he thinks he will be ready for Sunday as well

Full go on Wednesday, Kayvon Webster trending in the right direction for Sunday Night Football. #Texans https://t.co/bqmuCISukk

Doc any info on why Rankin didn't play? I didn't see any post about his pre-season injury keeping him off field. Just assuming injury as I didn't hear announcers saying starting LT out.

I'm a bit surprised at Coutee being allowed back in. He landed flat instead of bouncing his helmet thankfully, but still looked like he locked his arms (I simply cannot remember that term). It was subtle but seemed clear to me, as well as taking just a little too long to orient himself getting up.

Fencer pose.

There is a close response in martial arts. Hit someone in the solar plexus and they lock. Limbs go stiff.

Lol, Dalton did it to a kid 3 grades above him. He was harassing his sister. "Wait, you want me to be sorry for this? Good job son."

After you unlock you're fine. There's a few seconds while you can't breathe that are scary.

I missed that one. But I wasn't there

Injury doesn't seem to have factored into his not playing.

On the 1 yd TD play, I could not find where Coutee's head actually hit the turf. I didn't see signs of concussion at the time.

Someone give me a time stamp on the game so that I can review it. Had to leave the TV for a while and have not reviewed the film yet.

He is thinking of the defenseless WR call. He was hit in the head by the DB, but his head didn't hit the turf....hard. He looked daze for about a second, but really didn't look bad. No unbalance or anything.

Webster did not get hit in the quad during his short time on the field. That makes me pretty certain that he has sustained a quad tear........likely a compensatory injury to a still not fully rehabbed Achilles.

Watson has been dealing with bruised ribs despite not being on the Injury Report. With all the hard hits he took against the Cowboys, those ribs have been further injured. But, seeing how the Texans have been reluctant to reveal injuries to any of their their "stars," I won't be surprised if Watson is scrubbed clean again from the Injury report that comes out tomorrow......unless obviously serious and not something that can be hidden from all but the blind......such as fractured ribs or lung involvement.

take it that means no punctured lungs, but probably some very severely bruised ribs
A lung bruise can be more serious in its consequences than a punctured lung.

Again, with the Texans reporting, I also wouldn't totally rule out a fractured rib and/or pneumo (air) or hemo (blood) thorax.

If indeed, medical chest exams which I have found out were multiple in number when he was off the field, and the concerns were obviously there for pathology, he should have never been allowed to continue by the medical team. Lung contussions, even when serious are not usually diagnosed by physical (stethoscope) exam.

Going forward in games is Watson a candidate for some type of flak jacket? Doc any thoughts on how Lamm did with shoulder issue? He surprised me by playing.

Watson has worn a flak jacket since day one.

As far as Lamm, he had lots of help and he did not have a stellar game. In light of his previous borderline games, it's difficult to make conclusions.

Lot of us have been worried that Watson might get hurt again soon because of the Texans shaky Oline but this injury if in the chest area (ribs or lungs) as is suspected
is perhaps more along the lines of being self-inflicted because of too many reckless decisions and/or the HCs unwillingness to call plays that limit DW4's exposure to injury.
Why the hell didn't O'Brien insert somebody like Watt into the backfield for one of those goal-line efforts that involves collisions with multiple 250 lb linebackers ?

because the last time he put Watt in the backfield it broke Watt, and it has gone down as probably the worse play call of his career

Remember the play well - P/O game vs KC right ?
Or why not sub Clowney for Watt who use to be a RB and is as big as the backers & can outrun them. The idea is not to put the QB in such a perilous position.

Agreed I understand they wanted to take a chance on him, and that's fine he is a talented corner, arguably could have been the most talented on the team when fully healthy. But they should have at minimum placed him on the PUP list, and sat him out the same amount Foreman is sitting out.

Am I wrong in thinking the Texans brought in a lot of new faces to their medical staff this off season? Why are they still making the same mistakes?
Any players coming back from Achilles ruptures, if they come back are typically not worth much before 12 months post repair. As far as a RB like Foreman, I believe his previously promising career will never unfold.

There are some new faces on the Medical Staff. But the major ones are still intact. I'll have something else to post about that aspect of what's going on.

The Texans won't concede that point until they have someone in line to replace him. We'll be hearing about his progress right up until the point where they release him.

Watson has worn a flak jacket since day one.
...even in his Clemson days...

that said, is it me or does the Texans gear look a bit thin...

The N.F.L.’s Incredible Shrinking Pads
The league is trying to make football safer. So why are its players wearing less padding?

************************************************************************************************

Specifically, the evolution of the NFL flak jack began when the Army was looking for ways to protect pilots from blunt-force impact and light scattering flak from artillery on the ground (not bullets). The solution was a lightweight vest that inflated on impact, like a car’s air bag, and then deflated instantly. It commonly failed. It wasn't very practical for NFL football players. Then in the 70s, Easton Sports helped develop and manufacture a triple-layer urethane foam padding containing tiny air cavities. When struck, the vest would cushion the blow and redistribute the impact by letting air escape through valves at the sides. Though hardly noticeable beneath a player’s jersey, it could withstand a blow that exceeded 800 pounds per square inch. Pastorini was the first to wear it. Since then, flak jackets have gone through very little evolution, except for the development of higher density foam, allowing thinner gear with greater protection. BTW, some companies tried to incorporate Kevlar in their jackets, but this offered little improvement for blunt trauma in lieu of sharp projectiles or bullets.

Any player can be put onto the field after any injury. But, especially with an Achilles, there's a big difference between "coming back"............and performing well........and staying back.

well yea, but the Texans already showed this season they haven't learned lessons from past injuries

I know it seems to be only walk through practice, but compared to Weeden at least in this short clip, Watson is moving like an old man..........awfully slow and gingerly. If this is a true example of where he is now, I'd think twice about putting out there with live bullets anytime soon.

I dunno maybe time here for ownership to exercise some prudent judgment with their most valued asset because we know O'Brien won't as his top priority is to save his own job..

Well, Weeden HAS to impress the coaches, Watson doesn't. But yeah, Watson was moving gingerly at best. He should sit this week and let W/L fall on Weeden and OB.

Set aside ribs and lungs, rest of #4 body was pounded like mama used to pound chuck steak. That happened regularly in college. I expect see him Sunday but hopefully in shotgun.

Watson probably upset OB a little today with his presser. We know OB doesn't like players talking about their injuries in regards to them playing or not. Today Watson said multiple times he would be out there on Sunday

I'm pretty sure that Mr. Deshawn Watson is the one guy on this football team who O'Brien can't muzzle.

Bottom line, like you, O'Brien is not a doctor, and if he is told that Watson is good to go, he has to depend on their opinion...............much like was the case with Brandon Brooks.
