Dump O'Brien. The offense is on him.

Now we've got Billy saying he's sticking around next year to develop the offense. Jesus Mary and Joseph. Heaven help us. I mean, he may be OK as Head Coach but HE IS LOUSY AS OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR. Yes, OZ is a BIG PROBLEM. But I think the SCHEME is crazy dull, unimaginative, unthoughtful, dumbass, foolhardy, simplistic, worthless, fat and lazy and completely ineffective. The passing program is pissant and nobody gets open and when they are open the QB doesn't see them and really, WHO IS RUNNING THIS AMATEUR NIGHT SHOW? Why it's Billy! It's Billy Time! Let's meet at the airport and welcome the Oilers back home! Oh, not the Oilers? Guess not. They had some QBs and some offensive skills and a few ideas some of which sometimes worked? Remember when Moon threw for 546 yards against some team (Denver?) in a playoff?

Really, Mr. McNair, is this the best you can do? You're an embarrassment to all Houston sports fans. You need to step up.

(1) Fire OBrien.
(2) Cut OZ.
(3) Hire little Shanahan (I'm thinking just MAYBE he'd come).

What the hell is up with these pathetic ass quotes from BoB?! Satisfied with 3 and outs, will be happy to be in the game in the 4th quarter. That right there sounds like a losers mentality, I am still having a hard time getting over he said this dumb sh!t.

They (610) were saying that this was the 31st ranked offense in the league, and every year since he's been here, it's gotten worse. The supposed "offensive genius", "QB Guru" has shat the bed too many damn times for my liking. I know it wont happen, and it's the after game emotions speaking, but I would love to see the door hit him in the butt-chin! :worldpeace:

If Bill O'Brien spends one more year "developing" our offense we're gonna be the first team to win a division averaging under 10 points per game. This guy is missing something. I don't know what it is but he is so far off of the pace of an NFL offense that it's not even funny anymore. Seriously they have to go back to before the modern era to find teams that score so little and still win. Enough is enough.

We do not need to keep trying to reinvent the Goddamn wheel (offense). This guy is selling snake oil and we need to get as far away from him and his imaginary "system" as we can. There are people out there right now interviewing for HC positions that have modern offenses winning games in the playoffs.

People act like the whole defensive side of the ball is going to walk when O'Brien leaves and that's bullshit. You hire Baby Shanahan and bring him in, then tell him "Romeo's got the defense... trust me" and he's gonna be fine with that. Give everybody on the D side a big ass pay raise and bring in Shanahan's kid and watch the magic happen. You don't think Romeo wants another Super Bowl ring? He's gonna keep coaching that Clowney/Watt/Mercilus D all the way to the HoF.

Chris freaking Hogan was able to get 95 yards on our #1 defense. The Patriots were able to utilize Hogan in their scheme and get him productive against our #1 defense.

I hope O'Brien was taking notes.

I doubt it. He doesn't care about stats.

Always a lot of ifs and buts in this sort of discussion, but how different would this season have been if Fuller had performed like a first round pick and gotten say 850 yards and 10 TD's?
WR coach needs to be re-evaluated for wasting a first rounder and also for the drop off in Nuk's stats too - he had a lot of drops this year.

Yeah. They all blow.
So, O'Brien brushed off the betting line, but the players said that they use it as motivation.

And the offense came our and shish the bed.
And everything up at Kirby is still the same; oh well, we still have the marketing company, that football division may suck a little bit but we keep on rolling the dough. No sweat.

BoB was hired for his offensive expertise. The biggest reason the team wins games is because of defense. He is not good on offense at the pro level and his game plan and game management are lousy. Would someone tell me why he should be retained as HC?

Because Bob likes continuity.
He's used to make money on poor products.

chris hogan looking like a great receiver. 5th string rb's killing us on wheel routes for td's. exposing our weakest cover lb in covereage. brady tossing the ball up 50 yrds on more than 5 occasions. yet we cant do any of to them.

All that inferiority complex bullshit for nothing. Vegas and everyone else proven right.

OB can't be OC and HC.

Fire Godsey, bring in an independent OC, have 18 QBs at Camp and see where we go.

Godsey is O'Brien's hand-picked protege. He has been mentored by BOB to run BOB's offence precisely the way BOB wants it run. Additionally, while Godsey might be calling the plays, BOB listens to each one and overrides if he feels it's a poor choice. Three years of anaemic offence means this isn't going to change next year.

IF rumors are accurate that Brock was forced on bill by Smith/McNair then you can't expect this team to be anything but what it is. An average NFL qb might have won the game for the Texans last night.
1.get rid of smith
2.get a real GM
3.mcnair get the hell out of football decisions
With Brock as qb I am not sure bellichek could be successful.
Brock may do everything right up until he throws the ball and still screw up. He is too slow on release and inaccurate to be an NFL qb. If he can't throw it by now time to move on

I will just agree with most on here. Os is the problem and BOB does not help. There were not enough down field passes. Fuller dropped the TD that would have changed the game. That pass was one of the few long passes. When Kubiak was here, I thought the team had problems. I would take those problems now, not that I want Kubs back. There are some good football minds out there. We need to get rid of Smith and BOB and bring in someone to turn this Baby around. This team is going no where.

I see an OC who is not ready to take on the HC mantle. I want a HC who can handle both aspects of the game and manage his capable coordinators.

The problem is that the starting QB job was GIVEN to Osweiler; he never had to earn it & he didn't deserve it. BOB deserves the blame for starting Osweiler when any knowledgeable person in the cheap seats can see he's not the best QB on this team.

I would agree with this statement, if I knew that Smith and McNair had no hand in the starting of Osweiler. I am going to assume, because really that's all I can do as an outsider, that Smith and McNair forced Osweiler to start reguardless, simply because of money...

Which suxs even more.

Last night they had some close up replays of Oz's release. It's a slow windup delivery, almost like a baseball pitcher. As soon as Oz locks onto his receiver, this slow release allows the defender time to break onto the ball, to breakup the completion at best or for an interception at worst.

Oz's throwing mechanics is the reason I can agree with Thorsson's assessment that Oz is not the best QB on the team. IMO, only a front office/team commitment kept him as the starter.

Meh, you could probably criticize him more for his choice of WR coach - look at all the drops this season and the inability of the receivers to get open.
I wouldn't mind a dollar for every time I heard commentators say "there was nobody open".
What did that "great" (last) offensive draft garner for us this year?

I agree with OP. We need to replace Bill O as soon as we can find a suitable replacement. I believe that this is the highest level he is capable of taking this team.

Disagree.
Three out of three winning seasons and one better each year.
He's a keeper and other franchises would snap him up in a New York minute.

How do you excuse BoBs lousy game plan or game management? He's not solely to blame - Rick Smith is overall a below average GM but he's snuggled up to the owners nut sack and he ain't letting go.

He isn't going anywhere, so you can prepare yourself for more curse filled meltdowns and misery that you're so known for. He is coming back for at least two more years. L.A has two new teams. Pick a new one.

When you have guys like Edelman and Hogan making you look like a high school DB, maybe it's time to move on and do something else...

That was bad...

They did it all season long to every other NFL team other than the Broncos. I guess the rest of the league should retire then based on your standard. Overall they covered the Patriots receivers pretty well yesterday. Brady had all types of time on a lot of plays and guys weren't getting open.

Raise Osweiler's completion percentage by 7-8%.
We need our receiver's to catch more balls that come their way and we need Osweiler to be more accurate.
We also need the oline to create more opportunities for the passing and running game.
When those things happen BoB's offense won't look so lousy.
What jersey # was Rick wearing last night?

Rick Smith probably couldn't do much worse than osweiler.

It infuriates me when people say "just fire Godsey!" as if he's not EXACTLY who Bill O'Brien wanted anyway and doesn't think EXACTLY how he wants anyway. It's amazing how this guy has this ability to never absorb blame. Always acting and operating like an outsider to his own monster. That's probably the biggest reason I hate him. He's somehow teflon to his own choices, whether it's Godsey or his QB's or leaving players in to get injured to play calling to failing at game management otherwise to hollow records to acting like a cocky piece of **** about winning two division titles in a row.

It's mind-boggling.

Osweiler has problems but would look a helluva lot better with a coach that played to his strengths or even possessed a semblance of competence.
What I have been saying for a long time.

O'b is so set on his ways he won't evaluate and make necessary changes.

It's either that or he has no clue how to make necessary changes.

Now with that said Os can't hit the broad side of a barn with a cannon ball most of the time.

I still wonder how good our offense would be with a good offensive coach and a half competent Qb.

The game changed at halftime. The defense forced a three & out to start the third qtr. Something changed from that point forward. Something Rick Smith had no control of.

Good point. Even during the game, the game thread is full of Rick Smith this and that. Smith is not calling these ridiculous plays during the game. Smith is not the person implementing these conservative game plans during the week. This offense is not his scheme. He is not on the staff teaching the playbook and technique.

Look at the players making plays for the Patriots. Julian Edelman was drafted in the 7th round. Chris Hogan was an undrafted WR, but he is averaging 17.9 yards per catch. You can go up and down the majority of NFL rosters and you will see offensive players that have been coached up and are contributing immediately. They might not be stars, but they are contributing. We make it seem that Rick Smith has to hit in every round to get O'Brien to field just an average NFL offense.

If you are a good offensive coach, your scheme should enable these players to be more productive than what we are seeing. Did you see who was running the ball for the Patriots? Look at who is running the ball for the Packers. Good coaches take advantage of what is on their roster.

We are using Smith as an excuse for O'Brien. Don't get me wrong, Smith has his own issues and there are enough to get him fired. But, O'Brien should be doing a better job.

Me too. I was very hopeful about Brock. I wanted him to be good but he's proven he is not a viable option. I'm glad they didn't mortgage the future for Goff or wentz. It's time to accept the swing was a miss and let someone else have a shot.
Yep - I hope they manage to pull off a stunner this off season and pick up a noted QB.
I'd even settle for Garoppolo.
It would be such a shame to waste this great D we have another year.

I'd love to see a QB in year two of O'bs offense. Maybe we'll finally see game planning, favorable match ups, & attacking weaknesses.
