2015 free agents

he is 34 Oct so I could see a three year deal as speed was never his thing. Plus his leadership would be awesome. That would definitely keep Malcom Brown off my #16.

If he has anything left in the tank, he's certainly worth a look. I worry about his price tag, but if he's 'coming home' to finish his career with a small 2 or 3 year deal he's definitely somebody you want in the clubhouse and in the rotation. I wouldn't sign him with the idea that he's starting though. Crick was coming on really strong at the end of the last year and his arrow is pointing upwards. Smith would add tremendous depth and presence, essentially 'finishing' our defensive line for the next couple of years.

I would think a deal that was $2.5 mil or so a year. Probably not starter but bet the reps would be fairly even with Crick. Actually he could sub for both Watt and Crick. That would be a hell of a DL.

yep, and add Wilfork in that rotation mostly on early downs, could be lethal to Luck et al...

That's exactly my thought. a 2-3 year guy making above veteran backup money. He'll get plenty of snaps subbing in all across the line, I just meant that I didn't want Crick's very encouraging progress to hit a snag in favor of a 34 year old 'pretty good' player. A line of Watt-Wilfork-Crick with Ninja the first man off the bench would be nasty. It would also give us a buffer to evaluate Nix and Pagan's long term potential without having to further address the position through the draft or free agency.

I like the "hurt my teammate and I'll get you back".

I don't know about that. Players "get back" at other players all the time in the course of the game & don't get penalized for it.

I think badboy's point is that Smiff plays the role of sheriff; if you play dirty against my teammates and there will be swift retribution.

It's what a "good teammate" would do
:D

& he gets penalized for it too.

I'd rather they be like Incognito & do the stuff people talk about, but don't get penalized for it.

Reggie: No ill will toward #colts. Just disappointed 'they didn't believe in me any more. They believed in me 3 years ago.' @rtv6

Chicago Bears release center Roberto Garza

The Chicago Bears released center Roberto Garza on Thursday, preventing him from returning in 2015 for an 11th season with the franchise.

In a corresponding move, the team signed former Broncos center Will Montgomery, who played for Fox in Denver last season, as Garza's replacement. Montgomery received a one-year contract.

Garza tweeted a thank-you to the Bears and their fans for their support during his 10 years with the team.

Where is the UDFA thread? Or is this it? Have we landed anyone of significance? Would be SICK if we got Collins

Someone refresh my memory. Why did they let him go?

Lions restructure Glover Quin’s deal
Last year, the Lions converted most of safety Glover Quin’s base salary into a signing bonus in order to create some immediate space under the salary cap.

It seems they were pleased with the results because they’ve done it again this year. Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports that the Lions converted $3.255 million of Quin’s $4 million salary for the 2015 season into a bonus. Quin had a league-best seven interceptions last season and was selected to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career.

Chargers, Weddle agree to part ways after '15
Eric Weddle | SD
(June 1, 2015 5:16 PM EDT)

The Chargers have informed FS Eric Weddle that they will not discuss an upgrade to his contract.
Even after skipping Chargers Organized Team Activities, Weddle's agent says his client won't make a fuss. The sides have agreed to part ways following this season. "He'll be excited about playing this year and then hit free agency," said player rep David Canter. "We're disappointed and will continue to be disappointed. But Eric will go all out this season." Weddle is 30 years old. He'll collect $7.5 million in the final year of his deal.

Tim Wright being released by NE today. Houston should consider putting in a claim, though I don't think he will make it to Houston.

Pats wanted a veteran QB for camp like they had in the past with Ryan Mallett. Told by several "has nothing to do with Brady situation"

I'm told Patriots and Matt Flynn have agreed to a deal

.

If that were here the story would be about how poorly Garapolo must be doing in camp.

Mathis wanted a new deal with a raise, Eagles said no. He's been asking to be traded for 2 seasons now. Surprised they could not get anything for him.
