2014 NFL Draft Thread

If Locker is starting that is good news for the Texans in my book.

I think he is still a real unknown - he has had some pretty promising glimpses for me. If he can have an injury free season he has a good chance of making a career as an NFL starter IMO. Time will tell though - he might well be auditioning for a position outside of Tennessee this year.

And Houston take Alfred Blue, RB with their pick. Don't know much about him, so I'll defer judgement to others here. I did think we needed a solid backup to Arian though, so I'm happy we've taken someone.

From CBS:

Versatile runner who will be back in the running back rotation after missing most of the 2012 season with a knee injury ... Injured against Idaho in week 3 and never returned to field ... A fan-favorite, Blue has developed into more than capable running back who also excels at catching the ball out of the backfield ... The tallest of LSU's running backs at 6-foot-2, Blue has breakaway speed but can also grind out tough yards between the tackles ... Played in 27 games with five starts during his career ... Has rushed for 910 yards and 10 touchdowns in his first three years with the Tigers.

BOOOOOOO!!!!!!

From Thorn's link:

Strengths
Terrific size and musculature. Inside-outside ability. Nice vision, instincts and patience. Has good speed for a back his size -- opens up his stride in the clear. Strong runner -- heavy on contact. Powers through arm tackles and runs with forward lean. Wields an effective stiff-arm. Looks to have good hands in limited exposure. Flashes playmaking ability. Has tread on his tires -- averaged just 52 carries per season at LSU. Has experience in a pro-style offense and on special teams. Clear upside.

Weaknesses
Average initial quickness and lateral agility. Smoother than he is explosive. Can run with more consistent intensity and pad level on a carry-by-carry basis -- does not always run angry or lower his pads. Shows some stiffness as a route runner. Weak in pass protection -- needs to improve willingness, awareness, technique and physicality. Was never the feature back at LSU (seven career starts). Suffered a torn ACL in 2012. Made controversial, homophobic remarks and maturity should be looked into. Recorded a 4.56-second 20-yard shuttle time, the second-slowest of any back at the combine.
Draft Projection
Rounds 5-6

Bottom Line
A physically gifted runner who would have been the No. 1 back at most schools given his combination of size, speed, power and competitiveness. Is a second-round talent on talent alone, but injuries and a stacked stable of LSU runners limited Blue’s opportunity to shine. Scheme-versatile runner who is a prime candidate to elevate his stock prior to the draft and be a far more productive pro than college player if he proves he can stay healthy.

Running backs in the "Patriot system" are more like an extra receiver who can run the ball. This seems to fit what they would use in New England.

The obligatory Rick smith late round head scratcher. Ther are way better backs available.

power, speed, and hands... plus, has not been beat up for the past three years.

This guy fits, very well, what the Texans current roster lacks. They aren't looking for a 25 carry back right now. They are rebuilding the roster. From a talent perspective, this guy is a steal, though I don't pretend to know how he will ultimately perform in the NFL.

Antonio Richardson, OT

College Experience: Junior | Hometown: Nashville, TN
Height/Weight: 6-6 / 336 lbs.
Projected Ranking
Overall Position Proj. Rnd.

still undrafted?

To the bolded, So pass on better talent?? Doesn't make much sense. Maybe I'm wrong wont be the first or last time.

We're at pick 205 (with the Jaq's on the clock) and I cant believe the talent still available , all of which most had as 3rd rounders.

Antonio Richardson

Christian Jones
Marcus Roberson
Rashaad Reynolds
Daniel McCullers

Yes.

I really liked him early this year. The more I watched him the more I worried that he might be to stiff and unathletic to translate well into the NFL. At this point I would still take a flyer on him. Not risking much at this point.

It's getting to the point where I know nothing about 95% of these guys.

NFL teams scouting is much more thorough than the media or even TT.com.

I don't know much about the CB's left ..... and its definitely a position of need.

Anyone left on your boards this deep ??

only secondary I have left.

Louchiez Purifoy CB Florida
Ahmad Dixon SS Baylor

I have said before secondary is the hardest to scout because of lack of film.
