Ray Lewis is a class act.

The fact that at the END of the Texans/Ravens game he and Arian Foster traded autographed Jerseys...says a LOT about the guy.

Don't know that it says as much. They are friends and fans of each other. Hey, I'll autograph one of my uniforms and trade it to lewis or foster for one of theirs. Lewis got something of value for something of value. How does that say much of him? I'm not saying he's a bad guy I just don't see how that in particular says much about him.

To me it says that he has enough respect for the game and a fellow athlete to genuinely reach out to the guy. That was my take. Were he a complete tool he would be in some bubble in which "Ray" was the center of the universe and not be able to see beyond that. Just one mop headed fool's opinion.

The fact that he reached out to Arian & sort of "mentored" him says a lot about the guy.

That gesture pretty much says he (Ray Lewis) thinks of Arian Foster as his equal..... Ray Lewis is going into the HOF, been doing this for 16 years as one of the best, that whole time.

I think it's a big deal. I bet Arian does as well.

Sure sounds like Ray got "it" to me:

"There is no one man who has ever lost a game," Lewis said. "Don't you ever drop your head; we win as a team, we lose as a team. There is no 'Billy is the fault, Billy missed the kick.' It happens. Move on like a man, because life doesn't stop."

"God has never made a mistake. Ever," Lewis said, according to the Sun. "Somebody is going to feel like this tomorrow, and somebody is going to feel like this in two weeks in the Super Bowl. And whomever wins it, that's their year. That's a fact, and there ain't nothing nobody else can do about it. That's the irony of sports. There is a winner, there's a loser, and when you lose, you've got to suck it up like a man and say 'You know what, Father? If it's your will, so be it. As a man you got to keep moving, and a team keep building, remembering this taste."

Yeah great guy also a murderer.

What happened to innocent until proven guilty?

Were the other guys convicted? When I get home, I'll look it up, but I thought both of his friends were acquitted.

Just be on the watch for a book called "IF I killed Jacinth Baker and Richard Lollar, here is how I would do it"

Nobody served any time for the cold blooded murders of Jacinth Baker and Richard Lollar.

I just looked it up, as I had forgotten some of the details.

A fumble in the Super Bowl murder

It makes me sick to read it. I thought the perps had been convicted until reading this story. And I have little doubt that Ray Lewis paid for the defense lawyers to spring his buddies. from prison.

Ray Lewis is a class act

Perhaps "act" is the key part of this statement...

I think the fact that he was convicted of "obstruction" speaks volumes as to to what really happened.

I dont' know if he is a class act or not. I don't know if he killed anyone or not. I just didn't think that the exchange said anything grand about him. It didn't say anything terrible about him, its pretty common I would imagine.

I just don't get this "God's will" stuff about a mere football game.

Millions of starving people in the world, children being abducted and sold to the slave trade, continuous genocide in the world...the list of atrocities goes on and on...and to think God would be concerned about some dudes at a ball game??

Did God actually make Billy Cundiffs' FG go off course? Perhaps if some lightning came out of nowhere or the ground opened up and swallowed the goal post I'd buy into it. I mean, it's God, why would he give a crap?

And I have to disagree that God has never made a mistake. According to Albert Einstein, stupidity is the most plentiful thing in the universe, and since God is responsible for everything in creation, I have to say his biggest mistake was making a species that generates so much stupidity.

Why would they need to trade to get something of value?

If he wanting something of value he could have kept his own Jersey????

He's a millionaire anyways...Foster is about to be...

They traded jersey's out of respect for one another and to have a memory.

Yeah, Ray Lewis is a helluva guy!!

Signed,

Jacinth Baker and Richard Lollar :kitten:

Yeah great guy also a murderer.

I think the fact that he was convicted of "obstruction" speaks volumes as to to what really happened.

Ray Lewis had ZERO, nada, nothing at all to do with the deaths of those two.
here's the best part of that highly-slanted opinion piece cited earlier
In a three-week trial that ended with a jury deliberating less than five hours before acquitting both of them,

That's right folks, a jury of their peers acquitted Ray's FRIENDS of the "crimes". Ray wasn't charged because he didn't harm a soul that night. He pled guilty to obstruction (which he probably could have beat) for telling his buddies to keep quiet after they got into the car.

Such a lovely, peaceful Atlanta crowd that night. They only hit Lewis & Co's limo with gunfire FIVE times. The only witness claiming to have seen Lewis do anything other than playing PEACEmaker, is a convicted felon....who fled the scene and only came forward a week later. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/news/2000/03/29/lewis_killings_ap/

Everybody wants to believe Ray's a murderer....fine, go ahead.

I'm still quite unconvinced. So was the jury. I'm not sure anyone was truly "innocent" in this whole thing, but I've no issue with folks defending themselves from attack.

I don't know what happened. However, being that Ray was acquitted of any murder charges & his friends were also acquitted, then Lewis makes the accusations that he was targeted because of his fame......

It's not worth my time to hate a man because of something he "might" have done.

Duane Fassett, the driver of Lewis' rented limousine, reluctantly admitted on the stand that after the brawl Lewis told everyone in the stretch Lincoln Navigator to "just keep your mouth shut and don't say nothing."

Evelyn Sparks, who was riding in the limousine, said she saw another passenger dump a white hotel laundry bag into a garbage bin outside a fast food restaurant. Prosecutors say the bag contained Lewis' bloodstained white suit, which has never been found.

Sparks also said a photograph of Lewis' entourage, taken at the Cobalt Lounge on the night of the killings, was destroyed by Jessica Robertson, a woman described as Lewis' girlfriend. "She said she burned it," Sparks testified.

Yeah..... when I said, "I don't know what happened" I meant I wasn't there. The cops picked him up, questioned him, brought charges against him, charged his friends, reduce charges against Lewis, failed to convict his "entourage".....

I'm sure if the jury would have forgone the trial & only used information they got off T.V. or the paper, they would come to the same conclusion as you had.

But since they were actually in a court, with lawyers on both sides, a judge, a DA..... presenting evidence, deciding what evidence was relevant, trustworthy, & reliable they came out with a totally different conclusion all-together.

I'm going to go with their decision.

Alledged murderer/plea bargain= Ray Lewis.

No, I dont forget a good old fashion stabbed to death incident.

Something he values. How's that. I'm sure its a respect thing... I'm not saying its not. I'm saying that this trade has nothing to do with him being a "class act" or not.

Mike

i dont know what happened, noone here does.

what i do know is that at every opportunity ray has been the man in the NFL. he has been a beacon for the league, taking in friend or foe. there are several quotes that "half the league has ray's phone number, and he never misses a call". he goes out of his way to reach out through the league - to team leaders, rookies, and those willing to accept support. exchanging jerseys between stars is nothing new in any sport, it says little about character ... the difference in this case is that like always ray reached out to another player long before this exchange happened. ask the texans staff/roster (and the other 31 teams) to a man how they feel about ray lewis and it'll tell you about his character ... on the low side i think 99% will have nothing but the highest praise.

Is this thread about Ray Lewis telling his team and fans to pick their heads up, praise God and move on?

Like him or not, believe his innocence or not....

Ray Lewis is an icon among the league, including it's management. This would be a different game without the dude.

Voice of reason! Keep it simple guys! It is what it is, a simple act of exchanging jerseys due to respect for an opponent, and a friend. He made a very true comment about Cundiff, one we have heard about our OWN players, and from our own players many times over the years. You win or lose as a TEAM!! He was being interviewed, and he did the RIGHT thing by saying what Raven fans needed to hear! Give him credit for that, if nothing else.

Does that make him a class act? Depends on who's opinion you want to side with. I just think it makes him a nice guy at that moment in time, doing an interview, and saying the right things.

Lewis had high priced lawyers for himselfand his friends and lewis destroyed evidence. I see what you mean lewis is innocent. I guess O J didnt do it either.

Would you feel that way if it was your Brother - Son - Father laying on the sidewalk outside a club dead?

So, you quote an article that he told everyone to "keep their mouths shut"? that's all they had him on, and it's likely he could have beat if if he'd pushed it. That's your whole conspiracy. You have nothing to support your claim that he destroyed evidence. Here's the whole quote:
Evelyn Sparks, who was riding in the limousine, said she saw another passenger dump a white hotel laundry bag into a garbage bin outside a fast food restaurant. Prosecutors say the bag contained Lewis' bloodstained white suit, which has never been found.
What Evelyn Sparks claims "another passenger", and what the prosecution claims "what the bag contained" haven't ever been shown to be factual.

I'm a guy who HATES thuggish behavior from athletes, but this still, years later, looks like a case of folks instigating a fight w/ Ray's "entourage" that they lost.

If you come at me with a knife, you'd better be prepared for me to fight back.

Interesting. I'd like to understand how Ray's defenders rectify his behavior. He hid evidence? That alone gets us regular people who cannot afford top defense lawyers into trouble.

It is troubling, to me at least, that two dudes were murdered and NOBODY was held accountable.

I like Ray...at least his public personae as I don't know the man...but all his talk about "being a man" and being accountable for your actions rings a little hollow when looked at in the big picture of being guilty of obstructing justice in a double homicide.

It is what it is, though. And completely excusable since he's a helluva' football player, I guess...at least according to most folks. We Americans can overlook all kinds of bad stuff as long as we are being entertained by the alleged guilty person.

As already stated, the ALLEGATION that he hid evidence was never substantiated. As to two dudes being "murdered", that's a huge leap. Are they dead? Certainly. Were they murdered? Not according to 1/2 the "witnesses" and a jury of their peers. By no accounts were these just "innocent bystanders" who got killed by accident.

I get irritated that this keep getting presented as "Ray Lewis went looking for a fight and got one" vs. "Ray's group had a run in with Atlanta locals at a nightclub that got them all territorial, started a knife fight and ended up dead."

Two different interpretations that paint an entirely different picture aren't they?

I guess he traded that "white suit" he was wearing and was autographed all in blood to some other deserving "playa" in return for an autographed plea bargain.:kitten:

He was indicted on murder charges for the deaths of the two people. After having "lost" the white suit he wore at the time the victims were killed, and some eye witnesses mysteriously changed their testimony, and a damning picture of him and his entourage at the club that night was burned up by his girlfriend, the charges were dropped and he took a plea deal of 1 year probation and to testify against his two friends who were also charged. He eventually reached some big buck financial settlements with both families of the victims. The NFL fined him $250,000 with no suspension and has since, swept the entire incident under a rug. His codefendents who didn't have a pot to piss in, ended up with some top notch attorneys......wonder how that happened?

As already stated, the ALLEGATION that he hid evidence was never substantiated.

Where was his white suit? Why was he unable to produce it?

And it was never substantiated because he turned state's witness. The prosecutor dropped the subject when he had Ray on his side at that point.

As to two dudes being "murdered", that's a huge leap. Are they dead? Certainly. Were they murdered? Not according to 1/2 the "witnesses" and a jury of their peers. By no accounts were these just "innocent bystanders" who got killed by accident.

According to Ray's own words, a member of his group was the aggressor:

Lewis told jurors today that Oakley was the aggressor in the fight. He testified that he saw Oakley punch Baker four or five times in the chest and saw Stafford kicking him.

---------------------------

''Reginald was the aggressor at the time that I was walking up; he was really hostile toward the other two guys,'' Lewis said, looking frequently at Oakley and Sweeting.

''The other two guys were just standing there with a posture of 'whatever,' '' Lewis said.

Source

I don't think Ray killed those dudes, so I'm not trying to paint that picture.

Just looking in hindsight, I think there are some lingering questions.

Why did Ray obstruct justice if he had nothing to hide?

And where is that white suit?

Would you feel that way if it was your Brother - Son - Father laying on the sidewalk outside a club dead?

I didn't say either way whether I believed his innocence or not, so you can lay off the guilt trip. I said whether YOU (the general you, you folks, y'all) believe it or not.

If it was my brother, son or father I'd be wondering what the effs they were doing at a club knife fighting...

So again, like it or not, as far as the original thread topic is concerned Ray Lewis is legend and he was just telling everyone to get over it.

So, what is your overall opinion of the media?

If it were my brother, or son I'd be mad as hell that the Police department screwed this up. If Ray Lewis was the only suspect & never went to trial, it would have upset me they spent so much time focusing on a guy because he's an NFL star instead of doing their job, collecting evidence & finding the bad guy.

I The police had the "bad Guys" just could not prove it. Evidence being destroyed, entourage lying to police. There was a lot of strange circumstances to this case Lewis agrees to testify against his friends for a slap on wrist charge then pays for his friends defense attorneys, Isn't that a conflict of intrest some how?

Reasonable doubt, the burden is on the state to prove beyond a reasonable doubt.

It works for you just like it works for him. They failed to meet that burden.....

As far as I know, there's been nothing in his past to suggest he had a history. He's done nothing since to suggest the jury got it wrong. Everything I've seen, or know about the man tells me the cops got it wrong. He's a model NFL player, a hall of famer, & a person I'd encourage my kids to look up to.

OJ, not so much.

Based on the SP Times story Lewis was the only one who didn't have a criminal record.
