Any word on his injury?
Death to Google Ads! Texans Talk Tip Jar! 🍺😎👍
Thanks for your support!
I expect for Watt to end up with more sacks then Antonio now because Barwin is playing really well on the other side so it's going to free him up even more now.
I haven't heard about an injury...
But he seems less stellar now that Mario is out.
Perhaps this is an indication of how important Mario was to our defense ?
I'm not saying that's true or not true, but just asking if Marios absense from the defense (and Antonios side of the ball), is the main reason we don't see as much activity including sack stats by Antonio ?
Well Ninjas are supposed to be quiet, maybe he decided to take his role playing a step further.
The Texans dominate on defense, give up 7 points, and you guys are talking about the negative impact of Mario Williams being out?
Based on your logic, can we also conclude that Mario's absence is making Brian Cushing a better player? He sure had a great game with Mario out.
Re-watch the Baltimore game, Antonio Smith played very well
Dude you are wasting your time they have their manlove Mario blinders on. It's freaking insane.

Yeh it's all about Mario. It has nothing to do with the opposing OL we have faced. Jeez!
Are ninjas supposed to get off side penalties too?
I guess most people figured out this was really a stab at the dawg.
Haven't really seen him in a couple of weeks. I know it was Antonio that smacked Hass's thumb, but other than that I haven't seen him. It also looks like I'm seeing more Jamison, are they taking it easy with Antonio? Is he knicked up or something?

Where Smith gets back-to-back penalties on the goal line? That's the game you want them to re-watch.Re-watch the Baltimore game, Antonio Smith played very well

Smith is playing very well this season. Mario was playing very well. Yet, both the Antonio and Mario haters have to keep on hating.
Ninjas and the Lone Ranger pick up penalty flags and make masks! Are ninjas supposed to get off side penalties too?
You know what the funniest thing about this thread is. As the season rolls along and as this defense continues to play at a VERY high level, this thread is going to end up looking ridiculous.
Hell Antonio Smith wasn't even the only guy who they said Mario "allowed" to be productive...pretty much every defender was thrown in there as well. Well how the hell does Barwin keep getting off?....Cushing...I guess it's because of the mean stare from the sideline huh? I mean it's OBVIOUS he was the only reason why this defense did or does anything
People need to start rooting for the team and not just one freaking player, this is getting downright stupid.
Any word on his injury?
Can a Devensive Coordinator win coach of the year?
What does losing his cool in a scuffle have to do with his ovrl play? Antonio has always picked up those type of penalties and those type of penalties have nothing to do with Mario being in or being out of the lineup.
Also saying Antonio is still playing well doesn't make you a "Mario hater", it makes you realistic (DLineman aren't going to post a sack in every singe game...where was all this criticism when Mario would disappear for stretches of games?) However starting a thread where you pretend Antonio is hurt and you admit you are taking a self proclaimed "stab at him" just to drive home some misguided point does make you a Mario fanboy who has to hate on another player just to get your point across.
This is something Mario fans have done even before the guy was hurt. It must really chap their ass that this defense is still producing at a high level without "their guy". Seriously, it's almost getting to the point where if you gave them some truth serum, they would freely admit they're rooting for the demise of this defense just to "save face" with their "Mario is god and is this entire defense and nobody else starting can even take a crap without him holding their hand" argument.
The most confusing thing about this is, the same people who'll go well out of their way to write off a players' solid play are also some of the same people who'll reach hand over foot defending a dud like Kareem Jackson. I just don't get it...it doesn't even make sense.
I'm sorry but the pass rush has still not been near as good as it was when Mario was in, and is it a coincendence that Antonio has not gottean a sack since Williams went out. You were the one saying Smith was better and his numbers showed it and you said it had nothing to do with mario, well i think we can all see that was B.S. No mario no worries for the O-Line and no sacks for smith.
Actually this is B.S.. Our defense has played relatively at the same level throughout the year. We started off the year against two of the worst teams in the NFL. And when teams have a chance to see what you are doing they are going to make adjustments accordingly.
Can't speak for others but i don't hate on any texans' players.
I make observations and if those Observations are deemed negative so be it. I really don't think people hate on Antonio. Saying he benefited from Mario and Mario makes the defense a bit better is not a knock against smith.
But everyone should be able to state their view on it.
I agree.
The last 3 teams we played haven't allowed many sacks this year. Oakland 2nd, Titans 3rd, Ravens 11th.
http://www.nfl.com/stats/categoryst...447263-s=PASSING_SACKS_ALLOWED&qualified=true
Let's not forget that Collins (in the first game) is one of the more diificult QBs to get to during his career.
And Drew Brees, of course, is a fox.
There's no real/significant difference in level of competition (as far as pass protection goes) from the first 3 games and the last 3 games.
The numbers say different.
Numbers are rank for sacks allowed/qb hits allowed.
Miami 30/30
Colts. 10/24
NO. 13/2
Compared to
Raiders 2/14
Ravens. 11/23
Titans. 3/3
There is a definite difference in level of competition. One of the reasons I started this thread, was because I wanted to get other opinions before the Jaguar game. Antonio (& Watt & Jamison) should have a very good game tomorrow.
I can't wait.

Casserly gave Antonio Smith a glowing review yesterday on 610 calling him "one of the most underrated defensive ends in the NFL this year".
Because casserly drafted Mario and everyone knows the only reason smith has looked good is because of Mario.
You know someone is going to say it and believe it.
Actually, I was going to say; time & time again, Casserly has proven he doesn't know ****.
Then you and all the other Antonio haters are officially smarter than Lance as well but I guess you already knew that:

Wade Phillips will be bringing his pressure package as the Texans have blitzed 53% of the time this season. They feature the leagues best pass rushers at two different positions. 3-4 defensive end Antonio Smith (+16.5 Pass Rush) has 29 quarterback disruptions on 218 rushes and linebacker Brian Cushing (+7.1 Pass Rush) has 22 quarterback disruptions on only 98 rushes.

Antonio is still getting a great rush, he's just not hitting the QB. I agree with LZ to some extent it is the scheme and not necessarily Mario. After all Mario has been with him for 3 years. I do think however that more teams are focusing on Antonio with Wade's scheme now. There's no surprise that Mario was coming after the QB > 95% of the time. Now you only need one blocker on Reed/Barwin
I don't agree with LZ's premise at all. It would be like saying Foster & Schaub are as good as they'll be without Andre on the field.
Bot Schaub & Foster are doing well (Foster is doing amazing) without Aj on the field. But when Andre comes back, the game is going to be much easier for everyone on the offense.
Same thing with Mario. Antonio has definitely stepped up his game from the last three seasons. But when Mario is on the field, his job gets a lot easier. When Mario was playing this year, Antonio was getting 1 sack per game. How many has he had since? I bet his QB pressure numbers have gone down as well, since they go hand-in-hand with the sack numbers.
When Mario was playing, you saw a lot, from the front 5, even Cody got a sack. Without Mario, we've seen a lot more of Cushing pressuring the QB, you've seen more safeties going after the QB... That's Wade, adjusting his system.
Bottom line, ask Wade Phillips if he'd rather have Mario in the game or not.... I've got a pretty good idea how he would answer the question.
& this is in no way a jab or an insult to Antonio anymore than wanting AJ back is any slight to Schaub or Foster.
