Do we pick up any new players this week?

It seems Tate is headed to IR and Slaton still has fumbilitis. Do we scour the waiver wire or start sending out trade proposals for a RB that we can depend on to help carry the rushing load with Foster? Or do we hope JJ or Henry can step up in a big way for us?

This team will have a losing record if Schaub misses significant time. Neither of our backup QBs have what it takes to win in the NFL without significant help (EX: A suffocating defense/strong running game). Do we just plan for Schaub to stay healthy the entire season or try to find a way to get a competent QB into camp?

I think Dan O would be average enough to keep the O going, even if not smoothly. I doubt there is much f/a wise and trades are rare but I just don't see many new faces showing up for RB.

There aren't going to be a lot of cuts of good players until the end of preseason. So there's not a lot to scour at this point.

Unless we make an offer to someone like a Jeff Garcia or a Brian Westbrook. What guys are even available right now?

I heard Willis Mcgahee is up for a trade right now. What's wrong with sending them a low rounder. I know Willis would've scored from the one. He had like 10 TDs last year from that far out.

the old regime was all set on taking McGahee in 2003 w/3rd overall selection then he tore his acl, in stepped his teammate Andre Johnson & the rest is history. that being said it would kinda be fun to reunite former Canes :)

I don't know what Westbrook has left, but the Texans need to place a call to Garcia based upon what I saw from Orlovsky.

Nothing. If this season is about winning, and not improving, then the Texans place that call.

This team is ultra thin at defensive end. After the Big 3 (Mario, Smith, Barwin) there's a huge drop off. Nading and Jamison really didn't make any significant impact outside of a few run plays last night. Egboh Pannel was surprisingly decent and hes a huge DE but nothing special. Mitch Unrein (#60) got in for a few snaps too and did nothing. I'm guessing they'll be playing with a new DE in the mix next week.

How about trying to get McGahee in return for Jaques Reeves?

We are deep at Corner and that is where the Ravens are in desperate need of a #3, Reeves would be a good fit for them in that role and we are so deep at Corner that we'll likely be cutting a good player at the position before the season starts.

Sounds to me like a something for nothing deal from our point of view, Reeves will be #4/5 CB for us IF he makes the team, and in 24 hours we've gone from having a 3 RB rotation to a fumbly scat back and an undrafted FA as our feature back :pop:

Sounds like a win for the Texans. I don't know if this team is "deep" at CB. But, I don't think David Gibbs is crazy about Reeves. Not sure how much the Ravens would want him, either.

I say try to get Schobel and perhaps get some more O-Line help... Foster still looks good, JJ looked smooth as well and Slaton moved much better than last year. Just work on the fumbling issue and he should be fine.

I´d say we have more glaring needs than HB, especially since Tate should be back next season.

They want a CB in return. Unfortunetly we dont have enough depth to give them any decent offers. Maybe they would go for Reeves and a pick. But what does that leave us with.

Jackson
Quinn
McCain
McMannis
Molden
Bennett

That would leave you with a total of 2 years experience out of your top 4 CB's. No thanks.

Reeves plus a late rounder for McGahee. I'd do that in a heart beat.

For a long time last season McGahee looked... old. He did show flashes at times, and in the playoffs against NE, but he doesn`t have much left in the tank.

Jeff Garcia is needed in my opinion. Our backups just aren't up to the task and it's a crime right now if somebody like Jeff Garcia is out of work but Orlovsky is taking home a paycheck. Schaub/Garcia/Orlovsky would be good depth.

I wonder if they're thinking that Rosenfels gets cut? I'd welcome him back with open arms right now.

As far as the RB's go I think we're set, though obviously weaker. Foster/Slaton/Johnson/Henry will get it done.

If we add anybody I think it needs to be Schobel. I still hope that happens at some point in the coming weeks.

Sage ripped STL a new one last night. I don't think Minny cuts him.

You guys are all aware that Jeff Garcia is going to play for the UFL right?

I guess these boards need to have a backup QB on the Texans roster that they think can take them to the superbowl in order to feel right. I mean Garcia is only 40 years old, I'm sure he'd be just great.

Ummm, did you see Mr. Orlovsky underthrow a SIX YARD DUMP OFF - and his screen play execution just plain sucked. As another poster said, JJ made him look better than he played.

And JDB looked even worse.

I was just watching the first half of the Colts vs. Niners and after watching that li'l fiasco, I'm suddenly very happy with Orlovsky as the backup. Well. At least I'm not as unhappy with Orlovsky.

If Manning goes down, the Colts are doomed. Painter was not looking good.

And the Niners? HWWNBN was sacked 3 times in less than a quarter.

I'm thinking that a lot of the Garcia pining is just people who liked watching him years ago when he was still a good QB. Watching Orlovsky he looked exactly like what he is on the roster. A backup QB, he made some mistakes, he also lead the team on long drives. That's what you get with a backup QB, am I right?

I honestly expected Dan O to throw for well under 50% with picks and everything. He exceeded my expectations, but I already know that if Schaub goes down the season does as well. That was true when Rosenfels was here so I'm not getting why we need to go get a UFL QB who could possibly disintegrate from the first hard lick he gets in the NFL again.

Really though, I'm not seeing the need to go out and grab a new backup QB based off of last nights performance. We're just going to have to do like the rest of the NFL fans who have a decent QB at the helm, pray that he doesn't get injured.

This...

I'm guilty of it too, but I think some people get too hung up on the back-up QB. With Schaubs injury history though, I can understand why.

But Orvlosky didn't look terrible to me...It was the first game of pre-season..Sure he looked goofy at times, but overall my impression of him was that he looked like an average back-up QB...

This. Don't be surprised to see them sign a DE, which wont or shouldnt affect the Schobel situation. Kubiak has hinted at this.

What's Daunte Culpepper doing now days?

He's in the UFL I believe.

I'm not stuck on Garcia by any means. I'd just prefer we'd gone out and found ourselves an older veteran to back up Schaub. Garcia was just one example thrown out there that I would not have minded. I don't pay enough attention to the UFL to be able to tell you who is or isn't playing there.

Mcgahee would be huge if we could get him with slaton as his back up and we could draft another running back pretty high in next years draft. The kid from Alabama would look real nice in a Texans uniform i'm just saying!!!!!

Why? We spent a 2nd rounder this year on Tate. I don't think that his injury is anywhere near career threatening. He'll be back next year at the latest. I'm wishful thinking and hope that he'll be ready by our playoff push this season. The kid will be fine. For us to spend 2 high picks on a back, 2 years in a row, would be a huge FAIL.

Edit: I may not have understood what you referring to on your draft pick. Did you mean "high" as in a high value (1st or 2nd rounder) or "high" as in high number (4th thru 7th rounder)?

I'm fine with Dan O at backup QB. There really isn't anything better out there right now. Maybe we can find someone else as the other teams start making their cuts, but I think we are fine there.

I liked what I saw from Foster. Slaton is good between the 20s, and he is still shifty. I think they give us a nice combo. I like Henry as a receiver out of the backfield but I don't like his as a HB. I would like to see Johnson get some work against the ones next week just to see how he does. He seems to find the hole quickly.

If there is somebody out there who could help then bring them in. But while losing Tate hurts, I don't think we're desperate.

I would like to see us bring in a DE if they think he can make the squad. We looked pretty good everywhere else against Arizona.

Armchair GMs at their finest in here. The only smart thing I've heard in this thread is getting Aaron Schobel signed.

McGahee is getting old, and doesn't fit well in a ZBS offense.

There are not any quarterbacks on the market right now that would be better than what we have in Orlovsky.

I know football season is finally starting, but chill out on the crazy speculation people.
