The best defensive player we've ever had?
don't know bout that, kinda like Demeco and Mario, but with those three, the future is so bright, I gotta wear shades
At this point I would take Cushing over Ryans. However I am personally challenging Ryans to prove me wrong.
The best defensive player we've ever had?
all the haters that said he wasnt the best pick for us can have a nice slice of humble pie with mario serving it to them
Despite Kubiak and the offense trying to keep the Bengals in the game. This dude just single handedly closed out this game for us. On the last 2 Bengals drives he forced a fumble and made an awesome INT.
Props to Cushing and the D turning it on the 2nd half. Now if they can just figure out how to play both halves.
The complaints about Cushing were mostly injury related. He's six games into his rookie year and has already missed the preseason, and had another injury that had him listed as questionable for today. If he stays on the field it's a great pick. If he ends every season on injured reserve, not so much.

9 tackles, an INT, 2 batted passes, and 2 forced fumbles? Is that about right?

I agree. I was also part of the Matthews camp (trying to hide my past now by wearing a Cushing jersey). He should get DPOW at least. I wanted Matthews in the draft for sentimenstrual reasons, but I was happy with Cushing. He has brought an attitude to this team we've needed for a long time: SEEK AND DESTROY.
It's one thing to get a rookie who you can stick in there and be solid, doesn't embarrass you (Quin, Barwin, McCain). It's another thing when you can get a rookie who goes in there and impacts games every Sunday. Cushing is dependable, makes big plays on a weekly basis, and brings an attitude to the defense that was previously lacking. With Mario, Dunta, Pollard, and Cushing we've got some attitude out there - I like it.
Quin falls into that group too. He's a big hitter. You might want to include #59 as well.
(Haha, I'm not sure about this dancing cow!)
Remember the controversy over the lion?

I have to say, I was lukewarm to him in the draft, taking all those rumors about him being a workout warrior and such as the truth, but he really has brought this defense to another level. So far, I can't think of any other rookies playing at his level or with the same importance he brings to our team. Without him, we're the same D as last year; this year, we've got some attitude!!
It's official, I have a man-crush on Cush.
From his blog:
In my rookie year Ive found that I really have no time off at all. On Tuesday, my day off, I went to the stadium to work out, then I had treatment, iced my shoulder, iced my knee, got a massage. I went home and got in the hyperbaric chamber for an hour. Then I just hung out watching film of the Cincinnati Bengals, and that was really the only time I had to myself all week.
This quote from Chron.com:
They needed a big play, and I knew they liked to throw the deep over-the-middle route, so I was able to cheat, read Carson's eyes and make the interception, Cushing said. He threw it hard, but I would have been real mad at myself if I didn't catch it.
That's what I liked about this draft pick from the beginning. In his first press conference in Houston, he said "No one is going to work harder than me." That's all I need to hear from a draft pick to earn my trust, and now that the hard work is paying dividends, he has earned my confidence in his ability as well as that of Smith and Kubiak.
That's also a clear message to anyone calling for firings. We've had three good drafts in a row now. Would you really be willing risk ending that trend because you can't stomach a learning curve?
