Was the superbowl FIXED?

I mean I really didn't care who won the game I'm a Texans fan so... but to me it jus seemed like the Refs were on the steelers side most of the game. The steelers pedestrian offenive line HELD all night and barely any of it was called. How come Kurt Warners last pass was not challenged as an incomplete pass??? (CAN ANYONE SAY TUCK RULE?!). Last, I would like to say did anyone see Santonio after he scored he used the ball as a prop, all year I have seen that penalty called, its excessive celebration which might have had the steelers kicking off from the 20 and not the 35 which may have given the Cardinals a better shot a getting into the endzone at the end of the game. Tell me what yall think and in your opinion if it was fixed or not...

It DID feel like the refs were swinging the Steelers' way a little.

Granted, they DID call the 15-yarder on the Steelers' defensive back that roughed up the receiver out of bounds, which helped the Cards move down the field easier.

But it did feel, in some ways, like the Steelers were supposed to win the thing.

Oh well.

They also gave the Cards 3 15 yarders on one drive, including when Big Ben should have gotten intentional grounding.

I agree that the roughing call was unwarranted, and my first thought was that it was intentional grounding, but the replay clearly showed he (Big Ben) was out of the pocket.

I was saying this the whole game. It was starting to get ridiculous until they called the holding penalty in the end zone.

There was one play that Warner dumped the ball off over the middle and you could see Harrison knock the crap out of Warner in the background. How was that not a late hit?

No. They made a few bad calls and they went both ways. Roughing call was terrible. The Arizona line was holding all game long and they only called it like 4 times. They held almost everytime the Steelers blitzed. I saw Timmons get his facemask grabbed probably 4 times, and they only called it once, and that was on the Harrison INT so it didn't matter.

I thought two of the 3 15 yarders was bad....the roughness on Ben was b.s. and so was the defensive holding call. They moved them down the field for a FG. There was 3 quarters where EVERY big play the Cards made...on defense or passes for 1st downs, etc on offense...were affected by penalties. The 4th quarter evened out but the damage was done. There was a big clip on the 100 yard return.

Technically the defensive holding call was legit. I wouldn't have called it myself, because it was minor, but he held the guy twice during the play. Once coming off the line and again after the receiver made his cut.

Not sure I would call it b.s but it probably shouldn't have been called.

That's how I see it. Ben was clearly outside the pocket but that roughing call was bad.

It wasnt roughing, and I couldnt tell if he was or not. It was close. I also didnt know there was a roughing the holder penalty.

And that really was my point. That is a play you see week in and week out with no calls and then it is called there to move the chains.

Yes, and I want my $10,000 back.

FIXED....WHAT ??

OK, the 100 yd. INT. return and Pitt having to make a 2 minute drive at the very end, that cannot be fixed !...Yes, some calls could have been made or not, but to say it was fixed...NO !

Steelers had 6 penalties in the 4th qtr alone so you can't say the refs tried to hand them the game. The Cards got hosed in the 3rd qtr while the Steelers did in the 4th. The officiating was terrible, but it was equally bad.

guys i'm all for conspiracy theroies, especially when they are against people/ organizations that i would like to see go down in a big fire of their own building. (for example The Da Vinci Code, Valkaryne or whatever, those "the Bush administration planned 9/11" fiasco were even entertaining for a while) but i wouldn't go as far as to say this game was rigged. that last play should have been reviewed but come on, calls go both ways in football and the Super Bowl, although a bigger deal than most, is a football game none the less.

Overall, the crew just called a bad game. They made bad calls that went both ways.

Poor officiating, but not fixed.

No, but it did seem to cap a year where there were a ton of bad calls...seemed like this year had either more publicity against bad calls or just flat out more bad calls but I will say the ref-ing was sub-par.

The NFL is screwed if these refs are bad...the SB refs are suppose to be the best of the best.

Didn't watch so I can't say this call was bad or no but I've been reading all day long on all kinds of boards about how poorly officiated a game it was.

I agree. I don't think they were necessarily bad calls, but just being very nitpicky. A bad read by Warner on the pick 6 and a defense that couldn't make a play to end the game cost the Cards.

It felt like the refs got caught up in the moment.

On the play where Big Ben's knee was down before the ball was over the goal line...where they ruled it a TD and then overturned it...the refs should have marked it down just shy of the line, and made the Steelers throw the challenge flag to possibly get it overturned into a TD. Instead, it seemed they were all too eager to give Ben the benefit of the doubt, with the crowd screaling in hysteria and such. It was one of those moments when I felt the ref was all too eager to signal a TD in a really really BIG game environment.

Then, you have the FG attempt whereby there's a penalty giving the Steelers four more downs near the end zone...and it was like, "Good grief, just give the Steelers the freaking TD why don't ya?"

The phantom roughing call on Big Ben was atrocious. It was easily a bang-bang play, especially when he's been pump-faking the ball and sliding out of the pocket and owning defenses on the scramble passes. How do you expect a rusher to pull up on Big Ben when he's been escaping the pressure so much?

I wouldn't say it was rigged, either, but it was definitely a sloppily officiated game. The officiating has gotten worse, guys. It honestly has. There's a bubble of arrogance, IMO, with NFL refs. And their Ref Association defends them to the hilt, except on the Hoculi incident where they somehow managed to own up to an error by a ref. Otherwise, it's as if they won't admit they screwed up even when it's obvious they screwed up.

I think there was holding on both o-lines, which equalled itself out.

I sure thought so. It seemed like the entire game when the Cardinals would make a big defensive stop, the refs would find some ticky tack penalty to throw at them. I really believe I was unbiased watching because I really didn't care very much about who won. I just wanted to see a good, hard-fought game. What I saw were the refs doing everything they could to hand the game to the Steelers.

Roughing the holder... really?!?!

These two are just nitpicking.

The play where Ben barely was out of the endzone was very close and you shouldn't hold it against the refs for making that call. It was a very difficult call to make.

The one where Adrian Wilson, an 8 year veteran, ran into the holder was the right call. The guy has been in the league long enough to know the rules, and it is the Super Bowl. You can't be that careless or dumb, whichever it was. If this happened against the Texans everybody would be screaming for a flag to be thrown. Also, if they didn't make this call in the SUPER BOWL, there would be even more uproar about how the refs are either blind or they don't know the rules.

You don't blame the refs for making the proper call. If you don't like the rule, blame the people who make the rules, not the man who makes the call.

That was the worst call of the game by far. Terrible terrible call.

As far as refs go these days, I thought they called a pretty good game. The only
questionable call I saw was the roughing on Ben. The couple of plays they missed but got right on the challenge, and that was about it.

They did call holding on the Steelers in the endzone. Gandy was just holding all night long and deservered every flag he got.

One of the better officiated games of the entire season, I thought.

No mention of Harrison being ejected. That special teams play started before the ball changed possesion and he clearly went over the line pummeling a guy who was down on the ground.

CHEAP play, should have been booted IMO.

Yeah, he should have let the guy get up and make a play down field.

I say let the teams play in the last few minutes. The safety was overofficiating and had The Steelers lost that's what people would be talking about.

Watch the Holmes TD catch very closely and you will see that he didn't have his right foot on the ground. Actually, his right foot is higher than his left foot and is resting on his right foot.

Watch all the angles and you'll see what I am talking about.

I think it is ironic that what started instant replay was Pittsburgh getting the benefit of bad call in an AFC Championship game meanwhile they don't overturn the almost exact same play that it is intended to do. Pittsburgh got it both ways and both calls were extremely important for 2 of their Super Bowls.

Let's hope the Texans start to get some breaks like that.

Ah hell. That call could have gone either way, which is why the TD was not overturn.

How is the safety overofficating? There was holding. It was clearly holding. It was in the endzone. Safety. I don't understand your logic.

The teams did play. There's still rules to follow however. If you break them you get flagged.

Again, the only questionable call I saw other than those that got overturned by replay was the roughing penalty on Ben. Other than that, I had no problem with the stripes. Again, one of the better officiated games this season.

And FWIW, the Steelers got outplayed and should have lost and it wouldn't have had anything to do with a safety. Well, other than those 2 that left the middle wide open for Fitzgerald.

I thought the same thing until they showed the sideline angle that was on field level. In that angle, you can clearly tell that the right foot tapped the ground.

It was a catch, and a great one at that.

It was a catch for sure. I have watched it many many times. It has looked like a catch everytime I have watched it.

Yeah, he should have let the guy get up and make a play down field.

You are either kidding or blind.

Stevie Wonder was like DAMN!

That play was well beyond the scope of blocking and gamesmanship. He should have been in the locker room showering before the game ended.

I have watched it over and over and I don't think he got his right foot down, but I would not have overturned the touchdown because I can't tell with 100% certainty.

Interesting that Mike Holmgren also thought the refs were in the tank for the Steelers when the Seahawks played them in the Super Bowl a few years ago.

i feel 100% that it was an incomplete pass, and with the penalty and fitzgerald they had a hell of a shot.

i agree that the entire game had crappy calls, but i didnt see ennough to think its fixed. but I am not ignorant enough to think that it doesnt happen in pro sports...
