Cowboys & Phillips

Wade has infiltrated the enemy. Now he is exacting damage for all of the Houston Oilers and UH Coogs that hate the 'gurls. :tiphat:
 
I'll repeat what I repeated elsewhere to cover everything:)

1) Wade Phillips was another patsy hire after having Parcells. From Jimmy to Parcells they were patsies. I figured Jerry woke up and decided a football man needed to run it when he hired Parcells. They didn't win in the playoffs but they improved talent wise and on the field a great deal. Then he hands the reigns to a guy like Wade instead of creatively going for a guy like Rivera or someone like that. Wade is soft and looks lost at times. He couldn't handle Buffalo and now he is having trouble with more talent and the most pressurized expectations from a club.

2) Leadership. They have none. Individuals. Romo was never cut for the spotlight. Low key guy who is in a high profile position. He tries to laugh it off but now is being quite the puss with his act on the sidelines. His turnovers still happen and you can't get away with it in big games. Ware, Witten, Barber....why aren't they speaking out?No one is really wanting to step up

3) Talent--Yeah they have it but is the defensive talent a falsehood. Sure it is full of top picks but in general they have had trouble stopping teams since mid last season. Injuries hurt but guys like Carpenter, Canty and Spears have done nothing. Spencer too. The secondary is a wreck because 2 rookies are having to play and Jerry gambled with a starting CB instead of sending off a pick for Lito Shepherd or someone.

4) Jerry Jones--The guy is a great owner when it comes to signing players, willingness to take shots on players, running a franchise and being a top guy in the league. He sucks as a pure GM and a football guy. He needs to learn that he got Dallas back on the map with Jimmy. He didn't do it. He needs to find a guy like that and who can inspire a team and pay them.

5) Heart--Take a few of the things above and it adds up to heartless wussies who think they can roll their hats out there and win

As a 30 plus year Cowboy fan I have more respect for the 1-15 1989 team who busted their ass every game compared to this team.

I think you have to know he won't be retained if the team continues to lose. Jerry is so not a patient man. Wade is DONE.
 
yea Jerry came out after Sunday's game and said he wasn't going to fire him this season.

However that's been said many times by many owners before and the guys end up getting fired.

Personally I don't see any reason to wait. He's done. Gone. If Garrett was already told he's next go ahead and let him have the remaining games. They won't be in the playoffs this year anyway playing the way they have been.

Really can anybody believe anything that Jerry says?

I've lurked for quite some time. Don't get me wrong my favorite team is the Texans. If I had to pick a second, it'd be the 49ers, but unfortunately since I go to school at Baylor, I'm stuck in Cowboys country. The sports media in Waco all promote the Cowboys. Browsing TexansTalk is one of the few ways I stay current with my team.

With that being said, Parcells and Jerry Jones dominate the radio. I just wanted to get Texans' fans opinions.

A very honest assessment............must spread the rep.
 
I'm actually a fan of Jerry Jones, but it has to do with his entrepreneurial skills and not any football acumen he may posses, which according to this Star-Telegraph article may be doubful anyway ? And as far as his
football team goes, I like to watch them play because they have some talented individuals, led by DeMarcus Ware who might be the best defensive player in the NFL these days. But they also have a whole bunch of overrated and overpaid individuals who have a significant adverse effect on the credibility of the ProBowl selection process because of the lack of merit in their selection.
But Jones has done a remarkable job of lifting the visibility and the popularity of his team since he arrived on the scene, which in turn has surely made them the most valuable of all NFL franchises. This has been done without much success on the field for quite a few years now, when compared to other teams that have done better, far better. It's really remarkable when one considers that the Cowboys haven't won a playoff game for something like 10 years ?
What I really wonder about Mr.Jones right now though, has he left himself in the position of getting a "margin call" of sorts on his new Arlington stadium ?
If you're not familiar with a "margin call", that's basically when one gets a call from a lender who loaned money saying the collateral on the loan is falling in value and either the loan needs additional collateral or the existing collateral needs to be liquidated to satisfy the loan. In other words, I'm wondering if Mr.Jones gets in a financail bind regarding his new stadium if this season is a failure and he can't market all of those expensive stadium seats ?

I will agree with almost everything in that article except the part about Jerry for the most part getting a pass.

I know LOADS of people myself that are Cowboys fans that blame Jerry directly.
There are people on this board that have said they use to be Cowboys fans but stopped once Jerry bought the team.

Jerry gets no pass with me. I think about half the time he's the biggest doofus alive.

I brought the same point up awhile ago, not only in light of their apparent "meltdown," but combined with the simultaneous economic "meltdown." Fans and corporations will be less likely and/or able to foot even present day costs of tickets/PSLs/naming rights let alone the costs to support the new visions of the flamboyant owner. Jerry may have lots of money he's willing to dump into an unpredictable future, but most of his "support group" may very well tell him that he can proceed........while they watch on the sidelines.

Just to tell you, my oldest brothers works for the Cowboys selling suites and all to Tarrant County for the new stadium. Hard work but great perks..like flights to Vegas and then the cardinal game in a weekend to say "thanks." Anyways, he says the hardest part is bringing people in after games that recently happened. You'd be surprised though at how many people just show up and have the money to plop down on these things.

The average Joe is already being priced out of sporting events...have read on this board many times the fans that go to the Texans game that complain about the snobby rich sitting in this section or that and doing nothing.

I can't tell you the last time I went to any pro football game...oh yeah I can..free tickets given to me to a Texans-Raiders game and someone with a ton of money letting us spend Thanksgiving in their suite for a Cowboy/Redskins game. Those cover my games over a 10 year span.

I think the point CnD was making was:

Comparable seats to mine in the Cowboys new stadium stack up like this:
Cowboys new stadium:PSL $ 5,000.00 season $ 1,000.00 x 2 seats = $12,000.00 - first year.
My seats (Section 120 seats, not Bull Pen seat): PSL $900.00 season (current Price) $ 660.00 x 2 seats = $ 3,120.00 (I can't remember what the cost was year one - so I used the more expensive price that I pay now)

Again, that's for very comparable seats. I left parking out because a) couldn't find any info on Cowboys stadium and b) because I sacrifice to pay more to be with my group...
 
I can only use myself as an example and I'm pretty average...I could not afford to spend the money that people spend on sports.

I like eating too much and coming home and my electricity is on because I paid the bill...

To me sports are a luxury...well let's say GOING to sporting events would be a luxury for me.

I had season tickets to the Cowboys going all the way back to the Landry days and at that time I COULD afford it.

Nowadays you pay for all the perks and those are things I cannot afford. Perhaps I should have stated that I am using myself as the "average" fan standard.

And one's got to wonder just how levered-up Jones is ? He would
be the kind of guy who would surely use as little of his own capital as the bare minimum required. But I have no idea how much of his seats he's moved at this point ? Most of them ? Something less than half of them ?
But many financing deals in this economy aren't going to be closed that just a short time ago were thought to be slam-dunks, and this economy is going south at a very rapid rate and it may get real ugly, real quick. Sorta like
Jones's teams prospects are starting to look for the rest of the year ?

Actually Jerry has never been cheap about spending his own money....

HF's brother works for Jerry...he would know the status most likely of what is sold presently.

In San Antonio, the NFL faces challenges in weathering the economic downturn despite the game's popularity, Commissioner Roger Goodell said on Wednesday.

Responding to questions during a business leaders luncheon, Goodell said the NFL is not recession proof, citing stadium financing and struggles by the league's sponsors as specific problems.

Borrowing money has become difficult and expensive as credit has tightened, potentially hampering stadium projects, and many companies that the league relies on for sponsorships have had to cut back.

Fans, worried about their household finances, are feeling the effects also, he said.

"We're all feeling the pinch right now, some more than others, and it's something we want to remain sensitive to," Goodell said, speaking at the University of the Incarnate Word. The school next fall will field the city's first college football team since the 1970s.
