Encouraging Letters To Players

I know when things are 0-4, it's not looking so good.

But I think in some respects, this team at the present time is in a better situation than it was last year at the same time. They are relatively healthy and they have a Steve Slaton.

How about sending letters of support to the players? Or to Sage Rosenfels in particular? This is a young team and even if you want to get rid of everyone, most of these guys are going to be still around for a while. So we might as well give them as much as encouragement as we can.

It is also a good thing to do with your kids. A way of getting them writing and being supportive to people even when they make mistakes. Adversity building character and all that foof.

Last Sunday's debacle might be his defining moment. He would have to have a great career for it not to be. I've always liked Sage, and it's a failure that will probably haunt the guy for a long time. I really hope that people don't send hate mail to him. He's still our backup QB, so just think of the team's best interest in not breaking him completely.

I blame Sage 100% for the loss, and have said so in other posts. However, if you're interested in what's best for the Texans, I don't think it's berating, humiliating or "harshly criticizing" Sage for errors that he's already more than painfully aware of. If you just want your pee pee to stop hurting because your football team lost a game that was in the bag, well, I don't think anything they could do or say to Sage is going to help that either.

I say this because I really am serious about what this guy could do if he only took his brain out onto the field with him. It's a shame what this guy could have done for his career and for the Texans if he had shown the wisdom to not make so many turnovers and taken David Carr's job a few years back, like say in the middle of that 2-14 season.

You can project that he wanted to be a hero. Maybe he did, maybe he didn't.

I know in my own minor sports history, once in a while I tried to do things in an instant that were outside my ability. And you didn't know it while it was happening, but only after you did something and well, it ended stupidly. It happens sometimes with competitive people. Some of those people are not gifted (me) and some of those people are insanely gifted (Brett Favre, for instance).

And sometimes you are so in a zone, you feel like you are invincable. I once played a golf game where I couldn't miss a shot. I hit an approach shot through a small opening in some trees and hit the pin. One of the people I was playing with asked if I had played in college. Really hard course, but I couldn't miss anything. It was weird. Until I got to the last hole, and got a triple bogey.

Being in a zone you are just doing and not so much thinking of doing. You just know what you are supposed to do. But the scaring thing about the zone is that you usually have no notice when that zone is going to go away. It just happens. And when you fall out of it abruptly, you have to make sure you don't lose your head.

Anyway, I have tons of empathy for the guy. Yeah, he is a professional, and he should be able to deal with the pressure and what his responsibilities are for protecting the ball. But it truly was a pretty great performance for most the game considering that he didn't get first team snaps during the week.

Rosenfels didn't become a Texan until Kubiak came on board after the 2-14 season. It is my belief that Rosenfels would have become the starter in 2006 had he not broke his hand in the most flukey special team injury of all time. (Another try hard moment that went painfully wrong for him).

The Texans couldn't just rely on Rosenfels in 2007 because 1. he was coming off a hand injury; 2. he hadn't shown a ton of good stuff; 3. concerns with being a turnover machine in his limited playing time.

Really, it must drive him a little nuts.

I gotta say that this type of attitude is a big part of this mess. If this game was an isolated incident or the team just couldn't get over the hump (i.e., the Oilers losing to the Steelers in the AFC Championship game 2 years in a row), then I would all on board for this.

Bottom line is, for a multitude of reasons, some being just bad luck, THE TEXANS ORGANIZATION IS A BUNCH OF LOSERS WHEN IT COMES TO THE W COLUMN! IMO, until the Texans players really embrace and understand that, I don't think this is going to change anytime soon.

Maybe it's just me and how I deal with things (meaning buckle up your chin strap, stop the crying and saying your working all hours of the night). These players are grown men - regardless of Kubiak's comments that they are kids - that make a lot of money playing a VIOLENT game that a lot of guys dream of doing.

I can certainly see and understand your point of view.

I look at this team as if they were my family in general or my kids specifically. If Sage were my kid - after I jumped all over him like a duck on a june bug - I certainly wouldn't abandon him. Now, I'm not sending Sage anything - but I really think that if we could mount some kind of Go Texan post card blitz, it might help Kubiak get these incredibly wealthy "kids"-for kids they are no matter what their profession or income- to be as intense for the Dophin game as they were for the Colts.

I don't know if it is right or wrong - but I think it is necessary.. for this team to know that there are folks out there who still support them, still like them, still think they can win a few games and the season isn't lost - whether it is or isn't, you do or don't, doesn't really matter right now. What matters is that we don't lose any more games for awhile. If sending a few post cards can help - I'm all for it. If it doesn't - well, we tried and I'll even say, "You were right, HT."

I have attended every home game and the superbowl in reliant stadium. I have never left the feild untill the last player walks off the feild. I stand and yell keep your heads up, we will get them next week. I do not think I am very good at writing letters but I did go on 610 with Eric Winston and told him to tell Sage to pick his head up, we got a redhot team coming in here and we need to put a cork in the dolphins blow hole.

It is a game, A football game and we win some but we lose more right now.
Suck it up Houston, We got an NFL team and we should be grateful.

Message boards are great for providing different perspectives but it really doesn't provide anything regards to the poster. Meaning, if you met the poster, probably what you imagined the person would be, would be very different.

This might come as a suprise but I guess I went from an Texans Untimate Fan to a Fairweather Fan. I sold the rest of my season tickets and parking pass. Yes it's for their poor play and for other financial reasons. My family has priority.
