We really don't and yes we should focus on d-fense. But if great player comes along and we can cut some of the fat and sign a real threat to complement AJ then by all means, snatch'em!

do the texans really need more wr or should they focus on dfence

Well, there's no question the Texans need to focus on defense. However, focus on one side of the ball does not mean that is the only place we should attempt to improve. We could clearly use assistance at O-Line, #1 TE and #2 WR. Armstrong might make a #2, but we haven't seen enough yet to know if he's the man. So it's far from a critical need, but the need is very real.

O-line has got to be like #1 priority....if not you guys should invest in one of those chalk outline guys they use at a murder scene for Carr and DD.

As morbidly startling as it looks in print, Chawky is right on the money with that one.

you guys are nuts if you think you don't need another WR....definitely don't need to spend big money on him, but it's a need. if aj had a quality number 2 next to him his numbers would be so much better, as would carr's. everyone around the league keeps saying that aj is going to be the next top tier reciever, but i don't think he can be if there isn't another option out there. Gaffney is a good 3, but bradford should be a reserve. my suggestion.....pathon.

I would not be shocked if we drafted a WR with one of our first two picks. I don't see a #2 WR on our squad.

The Texans do have a few "Needs" but they should stick to the formula that has worked so far , that is to take the best player available WHO FITS THEIR SYSTEM on either side of the ball at least in the early rounds of the draft . You dont go reaching for a "Need" in the first 1-3 rounds or you end up paying inferior talent 1st-3rd round money and that just leads to cap trouble.

This years draft is quite intriguing in that ALL the prospects in lets say the top 12-15 could go just about anywhere in that area in no particular order . None of them really STAND OUT from the rest . Teams will reach for needs . just watch how far the two best prospects in this draft (at least in my opinion) fall DJ and Ronnie Brown .

The Texans have several needs which include help @ OL , DL , TE and WR , RB and CB are needs but of lesser importance at this time . If Sahrper and Foreman are traded then there will also be a need @ LB . Which is more important to the overall success of the team , the O or the D ? It takes a balanced team to win it all ... just ask the Colts all the offensive firepower they have and cant do squat come play-off time or maybe the Ravens , great defensive team that cant score .

The answer is simple , take the best overall prospect still on the board when its your turn to pick , dont focus on any one side of the ball and reach for needs which leads to overpaying lesser talent , if there is no one player you see stand out or multiple players at the same position you have as equals , TRADE DOWN .

I definately agree that we need to select the BPA for our system. We could really use a real #2 reciever and I believer there is some FA out there that could fit in very nicely. If not, then I really hope we draft a guy in the 2-3 rounds.

Nice input Corrosion and yes Ronnie Brown and DJ will fall farther than you expect. I think we could definately use a deep threat at receiver who will have more consistency than Corey Bradford. A name you will hear hopefully for the Texans is Jerome Mathis from Howard.

I keep reading how bad the Oline is, but we did have a back & a receiver get 1,000. Maybe another year together in the "new" offense will help & maybe a strong #2 w/r will add to the mix. One of the sports 610 radio guys was talking recently about trading for an O lineman with Greenbay that might be available now to strengthen line.

Right now I think that we could draft a WR, OL, CB, or the highest graded front-7 defender on the board at pick 13. It will depend on who grades the highest. I think we can start picking more for need from the second pick back. The money does not really kill you like an early number one does if the player doesn't pan out.

A back getting 1,000 yards in a season is not a big deal anymore like it used to be. And when you say "new" offense, are you talking about the zone blocking? Because if you are, that came together pretty good in the last couple of games of the season, but zone blocking has nothing to do with pass blocking. And we can forget about signing any linemen from Green Bay, both of their guards signed yesterday and both of their tackles and their center are under long term contracts and I doubt Green Bay would let their entire O line go.

:hmmm:
Did you watch the last game of the season ..... that was possibly the O-lines worst performance of the year.

Ummmmmmmmm, Davis had 103 yards on 17 carries, that is more than 6 yards per carry. Read my whole post, zone blocking has nothing to do with pass blocking, that's why Davis started having good games towards the end of the season while Carr continued to get sacked and rushed. My point is, people are saying to wait another year for the zone blocking to get better, but the fact is it is probably almost as good as it will get, pass blocking has nothing to do with the zone blocking scheme...the fact is our O line is not the best group of pass blockers...

Sure , the Texans have a solid running game but their pass protection was HORRIBLE . The last game of the season was their worst showing in pass protection . If you call that game "Coming Together" i'd hate to see what you call a poor performance .
They cant be a "one trick pony" and expect to go deep into the post season . Pass protection MUST improve .

In its current state they could put AJ and Randy Moss outside with TO in the slot and DC would still be lookin at the rafters of Reliant Stadium .

you cant just pick a some Olinemen off of FA and bring them in and expect them to own. If you have an established line you can probably get away with adding -A- FA lineman.. possibly TWO.. but in our case.. we are basicly throwing a line together and trying to get them to mesh and work together. That aint something that happens over night. Its possible our linemen just arent good pass blockers.. but we have to give them some time playing together before we start all over on the Oline again. We have had COMPLETELY new lineups on the oline EVERY year.. and people wonder why they havent played well.

Not only that, if you start bringing in FA linemen who have never zone blocked you have to teach them that scheme as well and then our run game would hurt somewhat until he/they got the zone blocking down...

Im not saying that wholesale changes need to be made but we all know there is at least one weak link in that line and an in-experienced LT although he does have huge upside. Im in complete agreement that it takes time for an O-line to become a cohesive unit and that too much change will slow that process but in the least (and im sure 95% of you will agree) the Texans need a starting calibur NFL Center :heh:

Davis had good games the previous year also without zone blocking. Davis can find the holes so he can run in either style blocking. The switch just set the offensive line back last year while trying to learn it when it wasn't necessary. In the long run it will help a wider range of rbs but was it really something we had to do in year 3? Dom should have done it in year 1 from the start if that is what he wanted.
