This morning I took a bet for $100 that the Texans will win 5 games or more.

I'd make that bet. I think that the Texans were a few plays and defensive stands away from winning 6 games last year. That's just me though. I think Kubiak is smarth enough makes those types of plays occur enough this year to get the Texans at least...seven wins. I think the Dayne pick-up will help a lot.
 
If I could afford to lose 100, I would make that bet. No bet is 100% safe though. But, I would venture to put the odds at 80%+ that we will get to 5 wins. If not, it will be QB play that is the reason. If the bet was 6 or greater, I might take it, but 5? Yes, for sure I would take it. 7 or higher I would not take the bet.

Heck yes! I'm down already down for considerably more than that in Vegas on the futures for our wins at 5.5. I took the over.

Seriously in the NFL in this age the teams are so close to one another talent wise its difficult to picture many teams finishing with less than 7 W's unless they are just torn apart by injury .... The Texans should beat the Titanics (Twice), Raiders , Jets and Bills ..... thats five and there is no reason to think they wont win a few of those "Coin-Flip" games.
 
I don't tend to bet on sports as injuries, lockerroom strife, etc. can play a big role. Too many variables and too much chance.

That said I would feel pretty confident in taking that bet.

they are getting sort of intimidating on defense. I look for the secondary to start ball hawking after a while of getting used to a D-Line that actually rushes QB throws. If and this is a big if but if the dee gets the idea it's a bunch of badasses and if the team jumps out to a good turnover ratio, we could be looking at this year's Bears.
 
To answer this you just need to look at our schedule. Just pick out 5 teams we should beat. One of those games we will lose. Are there more then 5? lets see here. I don't like picking winning and losing but this is money its for a good cause.

Now this is going to be my worst case record for the Texans:

eh 8-8 its also not going to be right. We are going to win a game or two we shouldn't, and lose a few the same way. Good luck.
 
I'm not a betting man, but, if I was, I'd take this one in a heartbeat. 6 wins, on the other hand.... ;)
 
I think we get 5+ wins fairly easily.

Count as a loss - @Indianapolis, @New England

Probable losses - Philadelphia, Miami, @Dallas, @New York Giants, Indianapolis

Toss up - Washington, Jacksonville*, @Tennessee, @Jacksonville*, @New York Jets, @Oakland

Probable wins (can a 2-14 team have these?) - Buffalo, Tennessee, Cleveland

Count as a win - NONE

*Every game against Jacksonville seems like a toss-up.
 
i actually wouldn't take that...i've had us sitting at 4-12 or 5-11 in all of my predictions..new players, new coach, new system, brutal schedule, a million unknowns. I'd hang on to your hundred bucks.
 
SWTBOUND....I hope you're wrong. I would like to think we will pull things together this year and win a handful that would be otherwise close losses on top of the ones we should out right win. I see us toward 8-8 or better..maybe 10-6. 5-11 and I would feel a bit disappointed. :wild:
 
The fact that the scheduel gets considerably easier at the end of the season, coupled with players getting more comfotable with the scheme, Id put money on us winning at least 4 of our last 8, let alone a total of 5.

Cowpatties fans bet with Heart NOT Brains, I have a friend who goes to Vegas regularly The guy at sportsbook says we lowball Dallas their fans line up to give us their money. I got a guy who was bragging on Cowpatties, how 2002 was a fluke that Cowboys are Super Bowl bound...Texans so much roadkill. I have him betting $50 that Cowboys (with an offensive line that scored 3 points in 30 minutes) will beat Texans. I made him promise not to cry on money, so it is not all wet and nasty when I collect on Monday Oct 16th.:yahoo:
 
After I made the initial $100 bet that the Texans would win more than 4 games, I made another bet with a different Cowpattie fan in my office.
I bet $100 that the Texans would have a 1000 yard rusher this season.

Will I win $200 on the two bets?
Lose $200
Split?

Not as good as the other bet but still decent odds. Biggest problems will come from underperformance or injury by 1 or 2 backs resulting in several changes to the starter thru the season. So long as one steps up within the 1st 4 games the splitting carries has not typically kept Denver from having a 1000 yd rusher.

I probably wouldn't have taken the second, for reasons cak stated. Injuries or changes to the starting lineup could easily result in two backs with 800-900 yards apiece.

I agree that the second bet is quite a bit weaker than the first, but you have to understand the circumstances of both bets...

There I was... deep behind enemy lines, surrounded by radical fanatics.
