Worst D ever?

TEXANRED

Texan-American
Could this be the worst D ever? Can anyone think of a worse D in NFL history? On national TV they give up 42, and 45 points.

We played buffalo and made Lossman look like the next coming of Kenny Stabler, then he gets benched for holcombe for the next six weeks.

In fact have we held anyone under 30 points this year? We even went nine weeks without a turnover. My head hurts just thinking about it.

This D has no pride. They should change the locks on Reliant stadium and not let Fangio in.

I'd normaly say he would be working at kroger soon but he got fired from there cause he was unable to coordinate the sacking of groceries.

Pittifull.

If this isn't THE worst defense, it'll probably make the top 10. We are almost last in every defensive category, and no higher than 31st in any one of them

Probably not the worst, I'm sure someone that wants to do the research can confirm that. I'm a bit beat to do so from the all day event in Reliant-land though.

Hey, at least is wasn't a 35-3 comeback... pretty close though. Unfortunately, this loss stung pretty good, maybe because the win was there for the taking. Win #2 baby. Yeesh.

Good thing we have a defensive minded coach.

our 2002 defense would have more than welcomed 27 points
Our 2002 D was average not pathetic. The 02 D was 16th in the league.

Watching the highlights, Travis Johnson, our D-lineman, is running just as fast as our linebacker! No wonder the backers can't cover anyone!

I do not acknowledge that games excistance. It never happened, it is all a bad dream.

Life is easier when you block out the bad times... kinda like I'll do with this season.

exactly. our D in 2002 gave me hope and with the addition of d-rob .. I was thinking cool.. stevens is out

As much as our D sucks and this game just hurts.....i truley and honesly am very proud of our offense. I thought we played a freakin awesome game up till we lost momentum. But that is somethin to look at we played prettyy solid O most of the game.

Absolutly. The O really is starting to look better as the weeks go on. Line is looking good, Wells has been solid, Carr is starting to look better in the pocket and more consistant.

This whole time I have thought all our hatred focused on Palmer was doing nothing more than polonging Fangio's job.

Yeah, since this team's inception, I think our defense was the best in 2002. Did you watch us against the Steelers? Carr could have taken a knee every down and our D still would have won us the game. And even if our defense was ranked #16, we were really probably a top 10 defense, considering our offense couldn't do anything to help our the defense that year.

That's why it's really dissappointing to see our defense continue to decline year after year. And now, we are at unfathomably the lowest point in our brief history. And it is absolutely amazing how bad Casserly has screwed up this defense. We lose Sharper, Foreman, Glenn. And than we bring in Babin and Buchanon. The only good players we have acquired are Robaire Smith and DRob.

And the worst part is, hardly any of our players are going to get better or turn into real prime-time players. It's just safe to say Babin and PBuch are a bust and aren't going to get any better. Greenwood has been in the league for a while, and he isn't going to get any better. The only "young" players on our D that really have a good upswing is Travis Johnson and Peek. Both of which could eventually turn into legitamite players. And we still aren't good in the pass rushing depatrment, after trying to do something about it since the team's inception! RIDICULOUS! We wanted to get a younger and faster defense, but all we did was get a bunch of softies.

We just have a horrible defense in terms of personnel. As for Vic Fangio, this guy sucks. It's not like he has an impressive resume whatsoever. I know lots of people want Capers fired, but I think Capers has to do something about this defense personally. Capers has a very good history with the 3-4 and has been a great defensive coordinator for many years. If we fired him, I would definitely want him to stay as our D-coordinator. He might be a bad head-coach, but he is a good D-coordinator. He needs to pretty much take over as the D coordinator a la Bill Belicheck, because Fangio sucks. Capers needs to start getting more involved with our D, because Fangio isn't getting it done.

But I was told Capers was a defensive genius? So smart in fact that we pass on playmakers in the draft to get guys that fit into the feared 3-4 scheme.

They will not be one of the worst defenses when it is all said and done. However, we may be one of the worst teams.

Don't let this game fool you about our offense. The defenses we'll face the rest of the year will probably make us look as good if not better, but seriously, we're not getting better on O.

Defensively, when you take into account that they are on the field too long, and too often, you should give the guys a break as far as points allowed, and yards given up. With what 7 sacks yesterday, we've got just as many sacks as any team in the league(21), there are 4 teams worst than us on 3rd down, & 14 teams in the league giving up at least 38.9% 3rd down conversions. One of which is Indy.

Honestly, I like our defense.....could see major improvement @ both corners, but overall, we're about mediocre in a mediocre defensive league.

That's what Parcells did. Worked for him.

Then again, he saw Value in Glenn(and it's paying off for him) and Casserly/Capers didn't.

Are you kidding!? Our defense is terrible and with teams like the Panthers, Bears, Steelers, Colts, and even the Jags how can you say this league is mediocre defensively. The league has always taken great lengths to give offense more leadway and now defenses are getting more sacks and interceptions because defensive schemes are now starting to catch up with offenses. Sadly our defense is pathetic and it is Capers, Casserly, and Fangio's fault. It is ho-larious watching Hoke steam on the sidelines as he watches his secondary drop into dumb zones. It is funny watching Robinson come off the field yelling at Fangio for the playcalling. It is sad that Capers and Casserly feed into his system and believe that it can be fixed with smaller workout warrior players. If our offense is aggressive then we always do well. Look at any of Carr's best games or Texans best games and you will see an aggressive offense, it is what are team is built around. We drafted a QB that is a gunslinger and aggressive by nature we run a 3-4 defense where you have to be aggressive and opportunistic to work and we have coaches that want simple execution and no aggression. IT IS SAD!!!

I'd like to see what the average Sacks/game is across the league. I doubt we are too far off.

Most teams appear to give up about 40% of 3rd down conversions,

We give up 1 yard more per play than every other team in the league.

We are probably on the field more, because of our weak offense. So...you should expect our numbers to be less favorable.

We definitely have weaknesses at both corners......Dunta, maybe he can play better if we had better Safeties, I don't know.

Keep the Offense on the filed longer, I gaurantee they'll have much better numbers.

You're absolutely right though, about the need for being aggresive on both sides of the ball. On Offense, I believe we've shown that we have the weapons and the talent to pull it off. It seems we screw up, when we play conservative. On deffense..........I think we'd get burned more often, till we upgrade the corners.

Statistically speaking the 81 Colts were the worst:
Most yards allowed 6,793
Most poiints allowed 533
Most TD's allowed 68
Most First Downs 406

Last year we played much more aggressively and we were better for it. Are our corners that much worse this year? Hell yes they are. D-Rob is still a beast, but like any young corner he is not very good in zones and bites on verteran receivers double moves. P-Buch was terrible in Oakland and Casserly made a mistake in thinking he was an answer for Aaron Glenn. Lewis Sanders, Faggins, Bell, Simmons, and McKenzie(who looks like Hoke is turning into a player) are average at best. They are viable depth on almost any team. They would not be burned, due to increased pressure, almost every QB in the NFL can make a throw to someone if given more than 3 seconds. Our corners are good enough to be in posistion to make plays given that amount of time.

24th in sacks
26th in 3rd down conversions

Just so ya know. :)

I have long thought that players and coaches signed up for the message boards. Now this post proves it. Now way are you not a coach, player, or maybe even Cass himself. Only somebody who is in danger of losing there job would say that a third string QB from Harvard who has never ever thrown an NFL pass, ever, never ever, throws for 310 yards 3 touchdowns and didnt even start the game, would say the D isnt that bad.

Big whoop we got seven sacks, we forgot to stop the other team from scoring. A tad bit more important. I know we sit and complain about the lack of sacks and pass rush, but with an all out defensive collapse, sacks are nothing more than window dressing.

I will take that window dressing any day. To bad our offense forgot to score a TD on an awful defense in the second half as well. Team effort = Team loss.

Houston allows their opponents to convert on 3rd down 41.3

SanFrancisco, Seattle, NewYorkGiants, allow over 38%
Carolina, Indianapolis, NewYorkJets, allow over 39%
Miami, Oakland, and Cleveland, allow more than 40%
NewOrleans, Cincinnati, and Houston, allow more than 41%
Pittsburgh, and Minnesota allow more than 42%
New England allows more than 43%
And Buffalo allows more than 45%

So we're 26th in 3rd down conversions......percentage wise, we aren't very far from other teams, some of which are elite teams.
Just so ya know.

I'd like to see the numbers for sacks, by the teams.....I'm betting 21 isn't that bad, compared to other teams. Yeah we may be 24th, but positions 15-23 could have 23 sacks for the year, in which case, the rank looks worse than it really is.

Yards/play, we are dead last........but the top 9 give up a little over 4 yards per play, from 10-31, teams give up over 5 yards per play. We give up 6 yards per play.

So on each defensive stand, each 3rd down, we're just as competitive, as most of the league.

Either get us a better deeper Rotation, or keep the offense on the field for a few more minutes each game, and our defense wouldn't look too bad at all.

what ever happened to the six linebackers, 5 defensive backs, and no lineman scheme the texans used to torture bledsoe when they won 12-10???
