McKenzie may miss season

Defensive back Chris McKenzie, who collided with receiver Kevin Walter during practice Wednesday, suffered a fractured shoulder socket and will undergo surgery.

"It looks like he's done for the year," Texans coach Gary Kubiak said. "That's another blow. We're going to keep plugging, keep looking for veteran corners, but it does not look very good for Chris at this point."

McKenzie and tight end Ben Steele (broken leg) were put on injured reserve Thursday.

To fill a spot on the roster, the Texans re-signed veteran fullback Nick Luchey.

Oh great, we lose a CB and sign a 274 lb FB to replace him!?

I believe they signed him so that they can keep the mininum roster requirements until they find a CB to really replace him.

He will be probably be cut as soon as they find another one.

What minimum roster requirement are you talking about?

Maybe I misunderstood the article....:hides:

I see now where you could draw that inference from the article. Poor wording by the author. The Texans didn't have to sign anyone.

Yeah, I had seen where they put at the end of the article the signing of a fullback, which kind of confused me into thinking they needed to sign players just to refill the roster due to all the injuries...

I'm not sure what the exact numbers are but I believe we need 53 active players once the season starts. I think we are 30+ over that right now, meaning many remain to be cut ... so it wasn't a "need." Poorly worded on the part of the author.
