Kickers and QBs

1-9 Quarterbacks and Kickers
10-19 Quarterbacks, Receivers, and Kickers
20-49 Running Backs and Defensive Backs
50-59 Centers and Linebackers
60-79 Defensive Linemen and Offensive Linemen
80-89 Receivers and Tight Ends
90-99 Defensive Linemen and Linebackers

It is not an NFL rule concerning what numbers you have to wear. Alot of WR's wear numbers in the teens, Keshawn Johnson 19, Peerless Price 17, etc.

No joke, that's what they are allowed to wear.. Receivers are in the 80's and 10's///

I doubt there is an option to allow someone to pay a fine and have a uniform that isn't in accordance with the league rules. Remember, this is the same league that wouldn't allow Manning to wear black shoes for a game to honor Unitas or Plummer to wear a Tillman patch to honor his former teammate and friend. I'm sure if he ran out with a #5 there would be a fine, but if it happened again I would imagine something much more severe. They don't like individuality in the NFL.

I remember when Keyshawn came to the league, he would pay a fine before the season started to wear 19. They wanted him to wear a number in the 80s but he paid whatever the fine was 16 times at the beginning of the season. Today, I believe the number 10-19 were added to a recievers options because someone was drafted and all the numbers in the 80s were taken so they expanded the options. As for what they will do today who knows... Then again Reggie Bush is to the NFL what Lebron James was 2 years ago to the NBA; they may let him do what ever he wants.

Thankfully this is the NFL and not the NBA, and all the individualism that has torn the NBA up and such. If a player can pay a fine and keep a number he may do it, but I don't think he really cares what number he has, maybe he'll take #20 since that was Barry Sanders' number and everyone is comparing the two of them for some reason.

If there was just a fine for wearing the wrong number, wouldnt AJ have snatched it up his rookie year and paid the fine? Being as he was #5 in Miami.
