I posted this because the talk (hype) started showing up on the radar several weeks ago. TBH I'm not sold on either Stroud or Young. I just can't see drafting a 5'10" 185 lb. (Young) with the 1st pick and Stroud has been disappointing in the BIG games. FTR the QB where I am all-in 100% is Caleb Williams. This guy is a playmaker and can make things happen in much the same way Mahomes does but is not draft-eligible until 2024.I have been quietly fearing that this will be the pick of Texans. Big conference player with definable traits and enough production to think he can be more. When I watched Levis, there were things to like, but I didn't think he was number 1 overall good. I make mental notes but no longer fool myself that I can internet and televised game scout though.
Honestly, if I were to make a bet of what the Texans would do it would be to take Levis as number 1 overall.

Which all know is not Texans-likeBoth would take football vision and planning.
Which all know is not Texans-like
Kentucky winning 10 games in 2021 certainly got people's attention. If this would get Caleb Williams it would be worth it in the long run. Vision and Planning have been always been problematic for the Dynamic Duo of Cal and Nick and the Texans. There has been Levis talk going back to 2021, which like both Young and Stroud, was better than this year.
Everyone is on Caleb Williams. Getting him would take another full Lovie/Mills/Allen and half-full stadiums which look like Texans road games. That or a little improvement and the willingness to use multiple 1sts to get to number 1 overall. Both would take football vision and planning.
A lot of what the author said hit home with me. Levis isn't coddled at a Bama or Ohio State, surrounded by 5 star players. He did lose his top receiver, and a big chunck of his O-Line went to the NFL. As did his OC. Even taking in all that, #1 overall is a bridge too far. Too many turnovers and inaccurate passes due to poor mechanics. Using that 2nd 1st or trading down to later in the 1st is a consideration. Levis does have the best overall tools in this class, so if you're a traits scout, he would be your guy.
Caleb comes with high risks also including not being available or injured. Not saying not to wait for him but need to look at all factors. If we cannot get him in 2024 we might not be in position to draft to get what we need for years. That would be a greater miss than with Young or Stroud.I posted this because the talk (hype) started showing up on the radar several weeks ago. TBH I'm not sold on either Stroud or Young. Williams is worth it,
Vision and planning you say? If fans had their way Caserio would either draft a midget who put mental health 1st or a guy who chokes in big games and frankly isn't that good to begin with. A top 15 type QB isn't what I'm looking for at 1-1. Williams or somebody close to him is what I'm looking for.
That's why I would not be opposed to drafting Levis or Stroud in 2023. Sit them on the bench and allow Lovie/Pep/Caserio to do their thing for one more year. Draft Williams in 2024 and trade Levis or Stroud for a 1st RD pick plus in 2024, much like Jimmy Johnson did with Steve Walsh, trading Walsh for a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd RD picks. The thing that really has separated Johnson and Belichick from the herd is their abilities to wheel and deal to accumulate more and better draft picks.Caleb comes with high risks also including not being available or injured. This is different than most NFL General Managers act. Most teams would break their fingers at 1.1 if they knew an NFLQB who consistently rated around say 13 for a decade was sitting there at 1.1. Drafting patterns and free agent money tell me this. Not that going for greatness is a wrong approach.

For my money, Richardson has the best physical tools in the draft.
I wouldn't take either of them in the first round, though.
I guess I just don't see Richardson as an NFL QB, yet. More of a Taysom Hill, but better. For my money, Richardson has the best physical tools in the draft.

I would be happy with a Cousins at QB. That would be the second best QB in franchise history, without the drama.Hopefully Cal wont be happy with another Cousins at QB for another decade.
Settling for a guy like Cousins ensures mediocrity. Pass, I would rather be bad than mediocre. At least when you're bad there's hope for a brighter future.I would be happy with a Cousins at QB. That would be the second best QB in franchise history, without the drama.
I don't know much about Levis but watching the clip from Texian 2 things standout. (1) he always has a clean pocket and little pressure with time to throw and (2) his receivers are wide open with poor defensive coverage. That said, I'm not sold on any of the top QB's in this class but I feel that when a QB needy team has the opportunity to take who they believe is the best QB in the draft, they should - and let the chips fall where they may.
No, you don't take a QB just because you can. If you don't think a QB is a franchise type QB then you don't take him high. There are plenty of those guys later and you may hit on a findThat said, I'm not sold on any of the top QB's in this class but I feel that when a QB needy team has the opportunity to take who they believe is the best QB in the draft, they should - and let the chips fall where they may.
SshhhDoes Penix make it out of the 1st round? I really like him.
Anyone who thinks Williams is Mahomes is delusional and I like Williams. Any team drafting him will have to have an appetite for alot of of script plays. He holds the ball a lot, which I don't have a problem with honestly. I don't see the difference between him athe the 3 this year other than he's a better foot athlete, which I do like. Posters knock the Big 10, but the Pac 12 is not good either and he has by far the most talented team in the conference. Addison won the Belintcoff last year with Kenny Pickett. He didn't play well vs Utah, isn't that a big game? People will start to poke holes in his game just like they're doing the draft elgible guys this year.I posted this article a while back. Jordan Palmer saying Caleb Williams is the next Mahomes.
I am all for Mills and Lovie being back next season. This is the type of QB that should be in discussions of “generational talent” and “can’t pass up on a franchise QB” conversations.
Stroud and Young aren’t it.
Richardson needs to stay in schoolI guess I just don't see Richardson as an NFL QB, yet. More of a Taysom Hill, but better.
He really looked good first few games if I recallRichardson needs to stay in school
I don't think so.Does Penix make it out of the 1st round? I really like him.
I like this idea as well- either that or trade our first pick for multiple so we can shore up our trenches. Later round qb pick for a qb that hopefully develops. Quite likely next year will be a tanker anyway. If qb still needed next year then spend your 1 on a stud. I’m hoping Nick can get numerous diamonds in the rough to develop and not necessarily win but convince some top notch free agents that this could be an attractive opportunity that has potentialThat's why I would not be opposed to drafting Levis or Stroud in 2023. Falcons are going to give Ridder run next year before they draft a qb.I don't think so.
I think Indy picks him. Maybe the Redskins or the Falcons.
And Heinicke has earned a shot in WashingtonFalcons are going to give Ridder run next year before they draft a qb.
Heinicke reminds me of Fitzpatrick. Actually, if Washington takes a qb mid late 1st rd pick and lets him sit, they have some really good pieces. Terry,Dotson,Robinson, and the ex qb turned te are legit. They're front 4 minus Young is finally playing up to draft positions. Penix or Levis would be change their trajectory. And Heinicke has earned a shot in Washington
God, please no more Clemson trash, you would think the Texans would learn.I think we end up with Levis.
My prediction, with 1.1 We draft Myles Murphey (Clemson) Edge.
And with the Browns pick from the Watson trade, we land Will Levis (Kentucky) QB.
For better or worse, it's still a step forward.

EDIT: Now I am not saying this is what they should do....but it seems like what the Texans would typically do.
You're saying Murphy is trash?God, please no more Clemson trash, you would think the Texans would learn.

Name someone other than Watson or Hopkins that fits that mold of yoursI'm saying most (Not all) guys that go to Clemson are overrated in addition to being very selfish people.

Being over-rated is not the same as being trash. I've nothing to say on Watson's press conferenceLawrence

I could go on with the number of busts lot of which comes from Dabo's system not preparing his players for the NFL and those players not being hard workers to make up for what they didn't learn at Clemson.
Did you hear Derrick's Browns press conference? There's a mensa candidate and most guys coming out of Clemson are just like him. They're dumb as dirt and they're behind the curve in learning the NFL game. That's not a recipe for success.
At this time in 2015 no one knew who Carson Wentz wasI think we end up with Levis.

You conveniently left out all the good players I see as if Alabama and georgia doesn't have duds. You mentioned Boyd, but what about CJ McCarrons and all those qb's not named Tua recently? I guess Grady Jarrett is a bum too. Evaluate the player, that's it. You can't let feelings get in the way of evaluations. Making poor off field decisions doesn't equate to being dumb and being some so called learning curve. Watson isn't a dump football player under any metric.Lawrence
