Will Houston become the first team to...

Errant Hothy

Hypermediocrity
...not make the playoffs by it's fourth year of play?

Personally I'm more then a little nervous that we will become the first. Now I wouldn't cry "Blow it up!" or anything but I would definatly say change would be in order.

What if we go 9-7 and Indy goes 12-4 and we don't quite get a wild card? I think our record, in itself, is going to be what matters. I don't care when other new teams made the playoffs. We just need to keep showing improvement. We're not ready to contend for rings yet anyway.

That's a very misleading stat. The merger is the benchmark for combined records but there are numerous teams that entered the league (either the AFL or NFL) before the merger that didn't make the playoffs for many years.

Neither the Steelers or the Redskins sniffed the playoffs for decades after they entered the league.

The Saints didn't make the playoffs until their 21st year of existence.

The Broncos didn't make the playoffs until their 17th year.

The Falcons took 13 years.

The Jets took 9 years.

The Vikings, Raiders, and Seahawks took 8 years.

The Cowboys took 7 years.

Miami took 5 years.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it, but if the sorry *** Browns can do it in four, so should the Texans.

Ill give you a preview of my arguements that I will be using if we dont make the playoffs this year.

1. The AFC is the dominant conference by far right now. Its alot harder to get a wildcard in the AFC.

2. In our division we have one team which is pretty much gauranteed a playoff berth (Indi).. which means we would HAVE to get a wildcard to get in. That makes it a bit harder. (an easier division would give us a chance at two possible routes to the playoffs.. sorta like in the NFC where 9-7 teams were winning their division)

3. We have said from the beggining that we are on a 5 year plan. In my mind..that means we are a contending team in year 5.. not year 4. Playoffs in year 4 means we are AHEAD of schedule IMO.

The Texans/Bills will not make the playoffs this year.

The odds are against us making the playoffs. We are in the AFC, we have a tough division and Carr is still a bit iffy.

I think next year is the year we are really going to make a run at it.

If Manning goes down with an injury, we will have a good shot at the playoffs.

Also don't forget that the Texans were not given nearly as many benefits as the other expansion teams. We got less picks and a lot of other things that working against us before we even fielded a team.

Like someone said it is a very misleading stat.

What happened to those "expansion teams" after making the playoffs?

Cleveland: made the playoffs once and has been downhill ever since.

Carolina: made the playoffs in their second year, but then went years before sniffing another winning record. Recently they have realized the way to build a football team is patience.

Jacksonville: made the pllayoffs in their second season but also way off since. They are just getting back to what they were.

What was the problem all three teams faced? They loaded up on older vertern players and then when these players retired they got screwed. The Texans have intelligently drafted and are building their team up so that they will be competing for a while to come.

Of those three teams, the "older veteran player" model was really only employed by Carolina.

Jax made the playoffs four straight years from 96-99 with a nice balance of youth and not so old vets.

The goal of our team is to become Super Bowl Champs!!! End of story, period, point blank and all the other things that me that is it! I have seen our team build a quality program and while some moves are not always the best at the time the work themself out in the end! So, lay off and lets just get ready to see our team take the next step in making the championship!
