Will Easterby and Obrien go after talent now?

Now that these two have control of the organization, will they go after the best players available via free agency, or come trade deadline? There's nobody left to throw under the bus. It's put up or shut up time for Billy-Oh Butt Chin!
Fire everybody after this clusterfvck.

I dont ever want to hear how smart/innovative anybody in the Texans org is. They have pulled the wool over Cletus eyes and he's to much of a pu$$y to move on.

I honestly don’t know what the hell is going on. I don’t know if O’Bummer had Gaine fired, I don’t know if Cletus decided he needed to stand up on the bed and crow, but this is one big sh*t show. I didn’t even want Caserio, but this is bad. If we decide to not go into the season with a GM, that is utterly stupid.

For one, O’Bummers team is in place now. That’s everything from his coaches all the way to his scouts. The new GM is going to bring his own player development personnel. Meaning his own scouts, and his own bodies in the front office. That means the glorified therapist jack Easterby won’t have a job. So, we’re really thinking about hiring somebody at the end of the season, giving them a few months (if that) to scout players, and then draft? Yeah. I’m sure that’s going to go over swimmingly. I mean Bill is not going to have a winning season this year. I’m sorry to break it to blindly optimistic fans but it’s not happening. He’s not a good coach, he has not had to play a tough schedule, ever, and now, we have one of the hardest in the NFL.

I don’t even know what to say at this point. I don’t know if OB really has that much traction with ownership, but if he does, it’s probably best advised that we just go ahead and focus on Astros/rockets until this whole Dumbass saga blows over. Because it isn’t getting any better

Depends, is NE cutting any more players that BB would let us have? Because apparently that’s the only place we’re allowed to get people from and only if they agree to it.

OB has one shot I think.

Hopefully he feels that pressure even if it’s just in my mind.

It’s time to stop the stupidity. He’s been doing dumb **** since he gotten here and it’s gotten worse every year.

If I were owner and OB comes out and run miller up the middle multiple times and comes out with the same stale offense I’d fire him at half time.

He pulls qbs at half time in game one we can fire him in the same fashion.

First, what does the team pastor know about NFL talent?

Second, isn’t one of the major criticisms regarding O’Brien his ability to evaluate talent?

Finally, who’s left in the Texans personnel department? Aren’t they Gaine’s guys after he cleaned house? Basically, the Gaine era is intact. Which I was told wasn’t good enough.

If Cal McNair had a cell of football acumen in his brain, he would feel humiliated after this fiasco.

If there was ever a thread posted out of pure spite, this is it. Answer is nah, Texans not worth your time. It'll be 11-5 to 0-16 and OB will be gone and you'll be happy

Btw, Easterby is player development aka character coach... He has nothing to do with personnel anymore than Gaine did according to lots here

About done with the negativity here

OB has been been picking the talent since he’s been here. Hoyer, Fitz, Blue, Griffin, the majority of OL. You think he’s the one who can get guys like Watson and Hopkins?

Hopefully Cal realizes he’s a bad coach and a bad talent evaluator, but I think OB has one more season until they try to sign Caserio.

Hopkins was drafted while Kubiak was still the HC. O'Brien get no credit for Nuke.

So the entire organization is on pause for Nick Caserio? That's the cherry of stupidity on top of this milk shake of incompetence. Drink up.

I know Hopkins was drafted in Kubiak’s regime. I doubt OB can get us players like him is what I’m saying or much less develop players like other coaches do.

Those were all Rick's, the scouts, and Gaines faults.

If they would give OBrien proper scouting info he would pick the right guys

Stating on the positive theme, are you positive Cal knows what he's doing and his nuts have dropped? Football wise I'm speaking of, this is a terrible look for the org.

It is, and where did I mention Cal? I warned you about Cal I think in 2015

So BOB can only get avg to below avg players when he evaluates players and any great players added while he's been here somebody else got? Ridiculous, and I want all of them gone and a fresh start after this latest fiasco.

Clowney, Fuller, Reid and Coutee disagree with this comment
It's hard to mess up the #1 overall. Though in hindsight, Donald and Mack appear to be the better players out of the 2014 draft.

Fuller has had flashes and issues.

Little early to be crowing about Coutee. Let's see what he does over a full season.

Reid appears to be a stud, and possibly the best value pick in Texans history.

Yep, I'm really not surprised but Cal's making it very hard for me to stay on the positivity tour.
Sooooo. How’s the Astros Board these days? You love to criticize those that don’t have a pair. Why don’t you grow a pair and follow your own message and slink off to the Astros Board and remember the Astros were the worst team in baseball for years under the same GM who got them a WS ring.

I felt like Gaine did a good job last season working the waiver wire and upgrading the back end of the roster for mostly special teams talent. Anyone know whose role that is this year? Promoting someone left over from the scouting dept? No way BOB can keep on eye on that while being O coordinator and HC. Easterby doesn't have the background to fill the role.

Easterby has nothing to do withe personnel or scouting other than character issues... don't understand why you want to insist he does

Unless it’s a bad pick then it’s not his job and he coaches the players given. To be frank right now there is no one in the Texans F/O I like. This whole thing has made us not even look like amateurs as even amateurs at least can do basics like read contracts.

We would have better results if decisions were made based on an intern playing NFL manager on his phone.

He's the one who advised them to fire gaine and hire caserio. Then he went on his little spying mission

Luhnow had a plan. In 5 years, the Astros were champs and have been consistently one of the top teams in MLB since. O'Brien is coming up on year 6. No championships. Time to deliver, don't you think?

Luhnow took over an organization that was stripped down to nothing, put a plan in place and stuck to the plan. They lost 106 games before Luhnow even got there. Now they're one of the best organizations in the game, and should be for the next few years at the very least. What plan have the Texans ever had, much less stuck to?

Luhnow showed vast improvement after 4 years, getting them back to the playoffs in that span, and winning the whole damn thing 2 years after that. Where's the vast improvement OB and the Texans have shown in his 5 years here?

BOB was spying OK.

Your hate runs too deep.

There are many things to not like about BOB, but this is ridiculous. Like I said before if the OL hasn't jelled by week 6 then we will have something to talk about.

Difference is Luhnow wasn't saddled with RS.

And I want them all gone and a fresh start.

Wow, sounds like a page out of the Gaine ledger. He had a clearly stated plan. Looks like two pretty good drafts. At least one for sure last year. Lunhow built through the draft. Sound familiar. You are conveniently forgetting how much vitriolic crap Luhnow took before....guess what...he was right. Like it or not this roster has been much improved over the last two years and like it or not with all the injuries last year’s 11-5 is pretty good in any year.

Not forgetting anything other than people prematurely drawing their own conclusions. I remember thinking it was a mess before he got here, how can it get worse? Of course you have doubts, and actually going through it wasn't fun, but 5, 6 now 7 years later, look where they're at.

When Gaine was hired I gave him the same benefit of doubt. As I gave OB when he was hired. You don't know until you know. We know OB now and I didn't like the fact that Gaine had those concrete shoes better know as OB weighing him down, but let's see what happens. Well, turns out that plan had no teeth because the Texans don't even give it 2 years. And that all fits right in to a HC that can't figure out who his QB is after one half of a football game. TWICE.

Would Gaines' plan have worked out? Who knows? All I know is that they had a 5 year plan that they scrapped after 18 months, and the guy who has been mediocre at best in his 5 year stay is still here.

Very unlikely the Texans find a value better than Arian Foster. Unless they get the equivalent as an undrafted QB somewhere down the road.

The NFL’s anti-tampering policy outlines the circumstances in which a team may hire an executive from another team to become a “high-level employee,” as defined by the policy. Here’s the key passage from the policy: “If . . . the inquiring club is prepared to offer a position as a high-level employee . . . the employer club may not deny the employee the opportunity to discuss and accept such employment.”

The emphasis wasn’t added by me; it appears in the policy. And the argument would be, if push comes to shove, that this provision of the tampering policy supersedes the Caserio clause, which as applied would prevent him from leaving his non-high-level employee job with the Patriots (coach Bill Belichick obviously runs the show in New England) for an opportunity to become a “high-level employee” with another team.

As one league source has explained it to PFT, at least one other team has had a similar clause in the contract of a non-high-level employee. And at least one other team challenged that clause. And the NFL ultimately invalidated the clause.

So, basically, the Texans could have challenged the Caserio clause. It’s unclear whether the Texans know that. It’s possible that they don’t, given the current dearth of football business expertise in the organization, with owner Cal McNair still getting up to speed and meteorically rising Jack-of-All-Trades Easterby likely not as knowledgeable as he could/should be.
