Will BOB trade Watson

Grams

Veteran
Brady would do no more than Watson here as long as OB is the OC/HC/GM.

If Watson or DHop were traded, I would burn all my Texan's gear and find another team to follow.

Quoting more to get you attention than anything, I’m curious Tex as a Pats fan where do you think Brady will end up? Do you think he will stay with NE or has that relationship ended? I’m hearing a lot of talk about Chargers now that Rivers is gone and with all their offensive weapons. Also do you think there is any chance OB might try to bring him here?

I wouldn’t trade Watson but I have to admit there is a part of me that would love to see what Brady could do with Hop and the rest of our offense.
I thought for sure, he'd leave NE when McDaniels had all of this HC interest, but now most of those places have been filled and I haven't heard of him leaving, so I think that McDaniels stays in NE. That is a huge factor in whether Brady leaves or not. If Josh stays, then Brady likely will too if NE gives him around $25 Mill for a season or two. Kraft seems pretty high on wanting to keep Brady, and I think deep down Brady would rather stay there "as long as he believes that Belicheck wants him as the QB."

Now that being said, I don't think that Belicheck wants him as the QB. I think Brady is foolish to stay in NE at this point, and I'd leave if I were him as long as I could find another team that has a strong offensive line and good skill players already where they can have a big off season possibly. The Patriots disrespected Brady pretty badly the past two seasons by giving him such awful pieces to throw to at the age of 41 and 42. You're supposed to put great pieces around a 40 year old QB and not expect him to have to carry a bunch of sub par players and rookies. Belicheck gave Brady an offense this season that told me he was "trying" to run Brady out of there.

When I look at the Pats cap situation, I don't see this being fixed easily. They are strapped for cash and have one of the oldest teams in the league and no speed on offense. There is no way that Belicheck is just going to have a change of heart and stack an offense for Brady now. He just isn't. I wouldn't believe that even if he said he would. I think it would be a fun and exciting challenge to see Brady on a few other teams with a new motivation to win there. I also think it would be nice to see what Belicheck does with a new young QB like Stidham or someone he could trade for. Belicheck seems like he is trying to build a new team for another big run in a year or two or three, and by the time he gets that team ready Brady won't be, so I think he wants to be ahead of the curve. Looking at what NE will have to pay Brady, it might be better for them to move on to get another QB ready for a run in like two years possibly.

I think it may be better for both parties to part ways after taking all emotion out of it and looking at it on paper.

Just for shits and giggles would you trade Watson for Cinci's #1 pick for Burrow?

I'm ecstatic about Burrow. I maybe would, and I'll take it from whoever wants to flame me for that. Maybe I deserve it, but that kid is the best prospect I've ever seen going into the same sentence with Manning and Luck when they were coming out.

I would if I could get 2.33 also. My argument would be you know how Watson plays and has taken team to playoffs; as great as we think Burrow will be there is still a possibility of being only a good QB.

Honestly yeah I think I would, not just because of Burrow but because that gives us another 4-5 years before we have to pay the big QB money and risk getting caught in the QB trap. You can’t keep kicking that can down the road but if the chance came up in this case I would do it.

Also a factor is Burrow is a much bigger guy than Watson so he can take a hit behind our shaky line better without as much fear of injury. That would give our newly drafted rookies some breathing room and let us focus more on the defense with the draft picks we do have instead of worrying about the line as much.

The biggest hesitation I have is of course that Watson is a proven NFL QB and shown that he can play on an NFL level. Burrow checks every box you can think of except the “Has played at an NFL level” one. Let’s not forget Tebow and Manziel lit the college world on fire as well.

Except unlike Tebow, Burrow has shown passing skill, and unlike Manziel he has shown he has a brain and can use it

Fire Bill O’Brien, maybe?
I wouldn’t trade Watson for a prospect - at this point that’s all Burrow is.

I know what we have in Watson. All that being said, I don’t think any Texans player is untouchable. In other words, I value Watson more than the #1 overall pick but for the right price...

After being outscored from the middle of the second quarter to the end of the KC game 51-7, yeah, I’d be willing to blow this team up and start over from scratch.

Agreed. Perhaps a thread to determine some ideas of what people think Watson would bring in a draft? Or it could be included in this thread but I'd rather have it where it would be limited to just that topic. I am not interested in anyone slamming another posters comments for any reason or arguing whether he should or should not be traded but simply his value. I think it would be great also if someone could defend their suggestion as to why That trade would be beneficial.

Yeah, but those two aren't comparable examples to Burrow at all.

Those two are more comparable to Lamar Jackson, Watson, or Kyler Murray.

No I get it and I don’t think he’ll be a bust but until he has actually played in the NFL there is still that chance. How many can’t miss prospects have we seen that were suppose to be the next Montana, Manning, Brady, Rogers etc. that couldn’t figure it out at the NFL level even down to Mayfield in the current day.

Yeah Burrow has broken records and had “the greatest season of college football ever” but they said the same thing about Tebow, Manziel, Mayfield, Watson and just about every other hyped up college QB.

Meanwhile a guy that was suppose to be a backup or maybe a bridge starter at best goes on to become the GOAT. The NFL is funny that way so to me there is no such thing as a sure fire win in the draft nor is there a complete miss in the draft till the player has actually suited up and hit the field.

No question there isn't an impossibility that he could be a bust. It could happen to anyone, and yes other players have surprised us before. The only guy I compare him Burrow to on paper coming out of college is Luck though. Luck was the best prospect I had ever seen. Didn't mean he'd have the best career ever or that he'd be the GOAT, but that he'd have the highest % chance to be really good and one of the lowest % chances that he'd be a bust.

No one put anywhere near the level of potential or a higher ceiling to those three as they have or are with Burrow. Again, those guys aren't even comparable. Totally different skill sets. Tebow was a guy that "most" people thought would either struggle, change positions, or become a bust. Most didn't even think he belonged in the first round. Josh McDaniels just reached for him, and that mistake ended his coaching career. Manziel had bust written all over him. Even if you took out his off the field problems, he was a horrible passer from the pocket and never established a pro style skill set that would transition well to the NFL from the way he played in college. HE threw jump balls all the time in traffic. Watson was a better prospect than both of those guys, but he still had a lot of question marks about his passing too. I wasn't that high on Watson at all personally.

Sure we could say that about anyone, but what's the point then? Draft QB's in the 2nd round? Burrow has shown some of the best intelligence on the field and probably the best deep ball I've ever seen a college player throw. He was under looked by several coaches obviously, and you should be questioning those coaches, not him. He showed everybody up.

Again I get your points and as I said would I trade Watson to Bengals for the number 1 at this point in time, if it was at most a straight up trade and would prefer they sweeten the pot a bit, yes I think I would. BUT it would still be the biggest gamble a coach/GM could make and one that he would catch all kinds of flake for. Its the kind of move that either puts a coach/GM down as a legend with balls of steel or as the biggest idiot to ever make a trade.

In other words its not a move I could see the Texans making even if Cinni was willing to deal which I don't think they would be. From their point of view they can make just as big a splash by drafting Burrow as they could from trading for Watson and they get a guy with less wear and tear on his body, teams have no NFL film on and on a rookie contract. Frankly I can't see any reason for them to even consider the deal unless the guy calling the shots for them is just that high on Watson or Cal or BoB have pictures on the owner in bed with a farm animal and they have just been saving it for this moment.

No question it would be a gamble. A gamble that could backfire as well and your team could look extremely foolish. Agree with every part above, but I'd likely take that risk.

No way we'll do it. No way any of these other teams will try to do it either, because they're all too scared of the public backlash and the media. I mean if lets be honest here, if the Texans, Cowboys, or the Ravens all attempted to trade Dak, Lamar, or Watson for the Burrow pick how long would we hear the sports media going on and on and making it political where they'd cry racism and discrimination every day for months? They'd never stop. The sports media is worse than the political media these days. Hell, just a few months ago they were spinning the situation with Antonio Brown and making him a victim for having to play big bad meany Rothlisburger where they literally made up all types of stuff to justify Antonio Brown's behavior of all people. They still act like its racism to question the long term success of Lamar Jackson.

Splash with either one but Watson could impact win record more quickly than Burrows. Joe OTOH could slide right into our roster and be successful.

Uncle Rico

Ur apology should be as loud as Ur disrespect was
