im still confused why the texans are even considering bush. Davis is a constant over 1000 yard rusher and can create some big plays. can anyone tell me what the point of having two amazing backs on a team that struggles everywhere else?

They simply do not understand the greatness of Vince Young and what it would mean to Houston to have him in a Texans uniform.

He's the guy. That's who they are going to draft. I have no doubt.

You can pick-up a good talent at the top of the draft and fill needs with the rest of our picks and free agency. You don't get a shot at the top prospects every year and picking their gives you anyone you want. Bush would work with DD to give you a superior backfield. Which ball control would have given us at least the three or four wins we lossed at the end of the year.( Some of which DD was injured ). If we improved just those 3-4 games from having better backfield, how much more would we improve with 7 more picks in the draft and a few free agents?

I understand exactly what Vince Young is and what he would mean to some people in Houston. I also understand the risk involved with young and the chance that he could become a bust. So many people seem to have forgotten that no player in the draft is a sure thing.

ANyway. THe allure of Bush is that he is very athletic.. very talented..and would fit very well in Houston.

DD is a great RB..but he is not durable. He hasnt played a full season yet.. and his career will be severely shortened if we keep running him like this. We need someone who can share carries with DD. It isnt a luxury.. it is a NEED. Not our greatest need...but a need all the same. Bush is a perfect complimentary back to DD.. he is fast and elusive..able to run to the sideline for a gain, or break away for the touchdown. DD on the other hand is a great cutback runner who can work well between the tackles and pound out some tough yards. Both of them can catch out of the backfield and make plays that way as well.

Bush would be a very good fit here.

Why some people want him over a trade down (which would actually be the smart move if you wanted to talk about meeting our needs).. is that many people beleive that you cant pass up a possible playmaker in the draft.. and that our oline needs can be met in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds.

Yes, I don't understand this"greatness" he has? Can he fly? Yes, just having him in a Texan uniform would incite a caravan of buses to create a traffic jam from I-35 to Reliant stadium on game days. They could even change the Battle Red to a mixture Battle Burnt Orange-Red. Is their something besides his play on the field that encompasses this "greatness".

This is now my standard response to all the "we shouldn't take Bush because we have DD" threads:

Reasons DD is not a solid #1 RB:
1. DD is injury prone.
2. DD has 4 100 rushing games every year. I realize his YPG is high, but we need a RUNNING back. We need someone who can get more 100 yard games and help control the clock. Portis had 9 100 yard games this year which is the reason Washington is in the playoffs. I looked at Terrell Davis' stats (which is what I think Bush could be here) - he averaged 10 100 yard games when he was healthy.
3. DD is injury prone.
4. We need a RB that can pass block, which DD can't. If he could block better, Carr would have had a lot more time to throw to WRs instead of dumping off to DD. Side effect: As our OL improves, we should throw more to WRs and less to RBs, which means DD value will decrease anyway.
5. DD is injury prone.
6. DD does not break long runs. Even when DD gets a big hole, he gets caught. We need a RB that is threat to take it to the house if he breaks through the line. DD had 2 games this year where he had 44 yard runs (his longest of the year), and didn't score (note that both of these games were against Tenn who was terrible this year). His next longest run was 29 yards, and didn't score (against injury ridden Balt). After that his longest rushing gains per game were: 19, 18, 15, 13, 12, 11, 7, and 6 (and his previous years are similar). His longest pass catches were 30 and 33 yards. He just isn't fast.
7. DD is injury prone.
8. DD does not score rushing TDs. He had 2 rushing tds all year. Arguably this is an anomaly for this year, or it could be a trend.
9. Did I mention DD is injury prone?

Untrue Bush comparisons:
(I think everyone admits he is fast(4.28 40), can catch and has awesome juke moves - I taped his games against UT and UCLA and watched some of his runs in slow motion, the only thing I could say is WOW) (before watching those games I was in the "trade the pick" category, as I have been since year one)
1. He can't pass block: The dude is a great blocker - as other posters have attested to.
2. He is too small and weak to go inside: He benches over 400 pounds, is 6 foot and 200 pounds.
According to CBS: Alexander is 5'11 and 220; LJ is 6'1 and 230; LT is 5'10 and 220; Tiki is 5'10 and 200; EJames is 6' and 215. His size is comparable, so, it's not his size or strength that is the problem (Carroll played to the strength of each of his stud RBs - Bush's speed and White's size - but that doesn't mean Bush can't get his inside - watch the UCLA game film for proof). Also, like most RBs, he will add about 20 pounds of bulk over the next two years. (and for the too few of a carry arguments, White, the heavy duty back, averaged under 20 carries a game also).
3. He is too . . . . err... that's about it.

Also Bush averages 8.6 a carry.

Bush longs per game of (this year): 78, 65, 65, 65, 45, 42, 41, 38, 34 . . . . not one game this year without a long over 10 yards. (note that this is not his longest runs of the year - just a listing of his longest runs per game).

His TD runs average over 30 yards. (DD doesn't even have 1 TD run of 30 yards).

DD's limitations aside, I have no problem keeping DD, as a complement to Bush. If we can't get anything for him, keep him (and trade Morency for a 4th or keep him too). It would be nice to have depth and strength at a position (especially RB due to the higher injury % for RBs).

Nice post Xman!!

Just wanted to add this.

Reggie Bush had 27 plays of over 20 yards this year (23 rushes & 4 catches).

11 of those were for over 40 yards.

Domanick Davis had 6 plays over 20 yards last year and a total of 17 for his 3-year career.

Are you comparing college stats to pro stats.

That's it young man, I need a 100 sentences saying, "I'll never compare college stats to pro stats again"

Until you've learned your lesson, don't come out of your room either.

great post Xman.. I agree with every word except for the adding 20 pounds of bulk part. That would lead to some truely huge RBs. I do think Bush will probably add 5-7 pounds and be bigger than Tiki Barber though.. so there is no reason think he couldnt be durable enough to be an every down back.

Good news is that with DD on the roster..Bush doesnt have to be. DD can be his Lendale White.

Sorry, but its a little hard to do when the thread is:

"Why should we take Reggie when we have Domanick Davis?".

Perhaps it sheds some light on the difference is running style?

How about he puts on 10 pounds and is comparable to:

Terrell Davis, 5'11 and 210

- -
As far as cross comparing stats - I agree that he SHOULDN"T be able to duplicate his college stats, BUT, he won't lose all of it either. Cut those stats in HALF - and he is still a stud.

Miss defend him on the outside or after a screen and 40yrds in college is 40yrds in the pros. Won't break as many, but will definitely keep them guessing.
