Why do Cowboys fans hate the Texans

I had the pleasure of living in DFW for almost a year, and there is hatred towards Houston. Most of it doesn't have to do with sports, but instead how HOuston looks. "The air is so polluted down there". When Dallas-Fort Worth is just behind Houston on air pollution in the US. A lot of other things, too that I could write a book about.

Somebody mentioned SA Cowboy fans. The Cowboy fans here in Austin are like that (obnoxious, arrogant) as well. I wear Texans sweatshirts, sweatpants....etc on a regular basis around here and Cowboy fans just can't let it go without making a smartass comment usually in short order. I really don't understand that. Fortunately they keep it passive/aggressive and I let that go, but I still don't get it. If it isn't Longhorn or Cowboy garb you are just out there trying to be different for the attention (ala LeBron wearing a Yank hat at the Cleveland/Yank playoff series last year), at least it would seem that way. It doesn't happen ALL the time, just more than I would have thought when the Texans came to be.

My wife and I were shopping at Target with our stocking-stuffer Gift Certificates recently and we both happened to be wearing Texan sweaters. An employee came up, laughed, and said, "We have other teams to choose from over there," rolled his eyes and started walking. I said, "Where's your boss??" I didn't want to see his boss but I did enjoy having my own personal employee showing me around at every step for the rest of my stay at Target that day.

Just a day in the life of an Austin, TEXAN. I 'sports hate' the Cowboys because I'm a Houston product...it's just that way. I don't hate individual fans. I just wish there were more Houstonfrogs here. I suspect if he were a Cowboy fan my sweater would only draw conversation and not sort form of posturing.

When I lived in Arlington and worked in dallas I saw plenty of hatred for Houston. when I would talk to people and they found out I was from Houston they would be rude and say oh your from there and what crappy city Houston is.

This is why I dislike most things about Dallas. I have hated the cowboys ever since Tom Landry was fired.

DING! DING! DING!

I ran into this several times in the mid-90s. My girlfriend at the time was going through some job training in Dallas back then. I'd visit her, go out to a bar, shoot pool, etc. and have a good ol' time with everyone ther until I spoke the "H" word.

You woulda thought I said "I have lice" instead of "I'm from Houston" from some of the reactions I got.

I guess due to my size, most SA Cowboy fans look at me when I am wearing my gear, have a look on their face like they want to say something, but they aren't sure what I will do.

I think its mostly the other way around. I see a TON more Cowboy hatred and jealousy from our fan base than I see Cowboy hatred to ours. I know of a bunch of Cowboy fans who have taken the Texans as their "AFC team"...I don't see the flip side to that much. I follow the Cowboys closely to be honest....I'd love nothing better than to see an all Texas Super Bowl one day.

You took the words out of my mouth Vinny! TRUTH!

I wopuld like to say that the NFL has quietly admitted that they screwed up the Romo intentional grounding call. Come on, I had to have one excuse.:). Just read it on SportsGuy

i think i saw the word jealousy somewhere.... im insulted, id rather go 8-8 every year than support anything from that dallas place. they are the opposite of what a Texan is and im talkin about the state not the team. EVERY DALLAS person ive met came from a bubble, or a place where nothing exhisted outside of that bubble, and fear anything they dont understand, they dont get why i looove my team even though they might win 2 games and they never will.....

heres how my convo gos

wesman: so whos your favorite team?

cowboys fan: the cowboys..
dallas man: the "boys duhhh...

wesman: why?

cowboys fan: because ive grown up rooting for'em and have supported them eversince
dallas man: cuz they are the best... what kind of question is that?

wesman to cowboys fan: oh word, thats cool, im a diehard Texan fan

wesman to dallas man: ya, ok, later...... ( thinking to myself, omg they are all the same, we had just signed DC to an extinsion do you not know anything? plus look at who mario is and what he does and will do..)

cowboy fan: hahah, thanks... later
dallas man: watch were gunna go to the superbowl and beat the Pats, best team ever... GO 'BOYS..... TEXANS are a joke!!!! (while im walking away)

:thinking: On one hand, it sounds like the real problem is with Dallas in general, and the Cowboys are a by product since they wear the name. Then on the otherhand, the Cowboys have fans world-wide, so it they are the target, then it sounds a bit like, Dallas the city, is being treated unfairly. Dallas the city does indeed have Cowboys fans, but they have some who were not fans enough to allow the stadium to be built in their city. I loved my team too, even when they were 1-15, and 5-11, but I must admit that I wasn't grinning like a Cheshire cat, heck, those seasons were painful.

Identity problems?

According to the City of Dallas, the origin of the name “Dallas” is a mystery, despite claims to the contrary. The most probable claim is that George Mifflin Dallas (Who was named after the village of Dallas, Scotland), a Vice President of the United States, was the person after whom Dallas was named. Bryan stated only that it was named “after my friend Dallas.” Another idea, was that the name was influenced from a small town in Pennsylvania, named "Dallas" [10]

Other leading candidates for Dallas's eponym are:

1. Commodore Alexander James Dallas, brother of George Mifflin Dallas, stationed in the Gulf of Mexico;
2. Walter R. Dallas, who fought at San Jacinto;
3. James L. Dallas, Walter's brother and a Texas Ranger;
4. Joseph Dallas of Arkansas, who lived in the Cedar Springs area in 1843, and moved from Washington County (near Bryan's land holdings in Crawford County) to the Dallas area a few years after Bryan's arrival. This possibility has much support, in that founder John Neely Bryan stated that he had named the town after "his friend," and he was indeed friends with Joseph Dallas at the time.[11]

A notable fact is that, while the namesake of the city of Dallas is not known for certain, the namesake of the county of Dallas is clear, as noted in the transcripts of the Texas legislature. Dallas County was named after Vice-President George Mifflin Dallas, leading to the intriguing possibility that the county seat was named for a different person than the county of the same name

ya, its the city for me, only people i have met from there make me dis like it...

i jokingly say that if all cowboy fans could visit dallas there wouldnt be so many.....

We really should separate the city of Dallas and the Cowboys in these discussions.. Afterall, the Cowboys don't really play in Dallas, do they?? :spy:

:)

ha, you know why not, i really just dont like dallas so it makes sense, but it does make it easir to use how they treat theyre own sports team as an example..... it was the same attitude towards the mavericks, but i mean, NO ONE talks about the mavs, i dunno why, they have a ton of talent... but still when they lose its "damn the mavs suck"... but ya, i dislike dallas' attitude

It's more fun to question their Texanity. Most people in Houston know who their city was named after and most people in Austin know who their city is named after, but ask someone from Dallas who their city was named after and you'll get the strangest looks.

you are right, people in houston and austin know that their cities are named after two guys from virginia. lol
