I don’t want this to devolve into a draft thread. Just want your opinion.

Is the problem talent or scheme? What scheme are we running? Do the OL just need time to gel? Are they doing anything right? What are they doing wrong?

They looked competent against Chicago. The only game I recall DPierce getting to the 2nd level untouched on the regular.

Looked to have regressed against Jacksonville.
 
At least the Texans aren't scraping bottom in rushing this year. They are averaging the same per carry as the Cowboys, Vikings and Broncos. More yards per game than 10 teams. They don't do better because like the Joker said, they don't have the talent to overcome the scheme that doesn't disguise what it's doing

I'm not sure if the Texans have a scheme, but even if they did they don't have the talent to implement it. This team is a bunch of thrown together players that until there is BOTH better talent and time together they aren't going to do much. Most especially this season. I don't expect them to do a damn thing this season except lose. Next season will tell us if Casino and Lovie have it together or not, they should be winning 8 games in 2023 and looking like a genuine run of the mill mediocre team. Which is a vast improvement over what we have now.

And thank god for Pierce, otherwise the Texans offense couldn't get past a strong breeze. LOL
 
Scheming and linemen not getting to the next level. The only one I see getting to the next level and smashing jokers is Green. Another thing is when teams know your passing game isn’t a threat. They tend to stack the box. On passing downs they know they could bring four and every so often bring the blitz. Pep is telegraphing his plays as well. He has to get creative with his play calling.

3 1st round picks on that line. Cann is a longtime starter. Q looks to be doing his job. Wife came home so I only watched through the 1st Qtr. Q is doing his job. Green got pushed back a couple of times.

Looks like zone blocking. Inside zone. Double team, pass off get to the next level kind of stuff. No one is firing off the line to block at the 2nd level. No pulls, no whams, just inside zone with a stretch every now & then.

DP did get through the line untouched a couple of times. One went for 13 I think the other 9. Or something like that.

Agreed, they need better QB play and more weapons to make defenses spread out and fear getting burned for TD's if they play 7 or 8 in the box. Pierce is doing well despite running against stacked boxes. Although I'm not a Howard fan He and Cann have been solid in the run game. They need to add a good C in the next draft along with skill position guys that are threats and you will see the run game really improve.

Wanna improve the run game. Draft Johnston/Washington/Stromberg. This will also improve the passing game too.

We need another solid running back.
A genuine 1-2 punch out of the backfield instead of being a one trick pony with just Pierce. Don't get me wrong, he is good, but still a rookie and needs some good company out there.
Sure, you can have a dangerous run game with one top flight back like a Derrick Henry, but DP is no DH. I love Pierce, but he is what he is and another dangerous runner would ease his load and help big time.

I love watching Zach Evans run .... but there are rumors that he's occasionally a flake. Cam Akers on the market at age 23 .... loved watching him run for Fla St !

Kenyon Drake was sitting out there and he just ran for 100 on 10 carries

I read somewhere that Pierce has run against the most 7 man boxes in the nfl. Nobody is loading up to stop the run as well as he's run the ball. Then when Rex comes in, its an even lighter box. There is alot of base defense going on vs Texans.
