Who would be your #1 choice - pre draft edition

Who would be your #1 pick?

My only concern is that I don't think a defensive player is worth the No. 1 overall pick in the modern NFL. Especially when a team has no QB.

I would like to draft Morgan Moses with out first pick, yes our first pick at near end of first after we trade down multiple times and pick up as many 2nd round and future 2nds or thirds as possible. I want a lot of good players and not hinge the future on just one or two that have as good as chance at injury as anything else. football has changed, almost everybody gets hurt every year.
So you're saying our first pick may not be until the second round...??
Depending on how many extra picks we collect along the way, I might be good with that. And Moses would satisfy what I believe is our greatest need.

It doesn't matter who we take, 40% are gonna hate the pick.

Within 3 years 80% will be finding fault with it

Well, Seattle just won the Superbowl and their defense and pass rush was a big reason for that. Sure, they don`t have that many first rounders, but it still was their defense that was most important.

I am all for taking a QB, because that is by far the most impactful position. A great QB is probably worth 10 great DEs. The problem is: is there a great QB in this class. And the question is also: at what spot can you get him?

All of the QBs have major question marks. And it is possible, that any of the 3 fall to the second round.

I think, in this day and age NFL, it is still like this: most important is a QB, second most important is a guy to stop the QB (passrusher), third most important is the guy who protects your QB (T). So those are the 3 positions I´d consider taking first overall.

I'm cool with second round, and it would be so fun watching the texans turn the first overall into a second round plus extras. I really believe this is the way to go, I don't care if each trade is a little less than that value chart.

I don't much care what position it is. I want the 1-1 pick to be as close to an immediate POSITIVE impact player as I can find. If the QBs currently available are going to need a year or so of "seasoning" before they are ready to produce that positive impact, then I'm looking elsewhere.

That's why I've been going OT since March. Our RT position sucks and either Matthews or Robinson can step in right away and greatly improve the O-line. And, OBTW, they should improve both QB play (since the QB is less likely to be running for his life) and our running attack.

Back to whether a defensive should be taken at 1-1; if you truly believe that the Clowney/Watt/whoever front line will produce sacks, turnovers, and more 3-and-outs, then that's who you pick. I'm not sure I buy that, but if I did, that's who I'd pick.

Not to muddy the water, but Seattle also has some serious talent and size in their secondary.

Sure they do, they also have some great LBs... I am just saying a great pass rush helps you a lot. Take a look at that Giants superbowl team for example. SF got pretty far with a lot of help of their defense and pass rush.

A DE alone isn`t enough. A QB alone might be enough. But outside of QB, I consider pass rusher the second most important position (perhaps a tie with OT).

I can't argue with that.

defense is winning the big games. seattle obviously. the ravens superbowls. the 49ers the last couple of years. jets when they went to the championship games. new orleans got their defense playing illegally enough to be good and win in the postseason. manning's colts couldn't break through until the defense showed up in the playoffs. both giants superbowl runs were purely defense. the packers had a great defense for their superbowl run and have gone nowhere since - because the defense has fallen apart. the pats get there every year but havent finished things since their defense retired.

the phrase "offense wins games, defense wins championships" is still very much alive and flourishing. if the best players we can add on defense, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

If I just absolutely had to pick at 1.1, I'm going with Manziel. Might as well make a big splash and roll the dice. It might end up all rainbows and unicorns or it might be a train wreck, but it will definitely be one helluva ride!!

I'd be very easy to trade with, though.:texflag:

Nevermind, I'm going in circles. I don't know what I want for the #1 pick, I just know I want a top 4 QB by #33.

I am going to say something way out of left field.
Just in case it happens I can then say I am the only one to get it ;)

I am going for a big trade down and we will pick Louis Nix and big NT 330+ lbs.

You heard it here first!!!
You can trust me I am a doctor :kitten:

I think 1 of 4 things will happen tonight.

1. Draft Clowney
2. Draft Manziel
3. Draft Mack
4. Trade pick

Doesn't look like a trade will happen based on the Texans asking a kings ransom. If one of the other three happened I would be ok, but a little leery of Mack. I think it will be Clowney. Outside chance we jump back into the first if a QB we love falls far enough, but most likely just the one pick. Hopefully he will emulate Watt.

One thing I love and hate about the draft this year: Rick Smith is playing it real close to his chest. There still is some confusion around who he is going to take. That keeps the trade value for the #1 pretty high. We all know he is trying to trade down, but I like it, that he is not just taking any deal. He holds all the cards and he is playing them the best way possible so far.

I expect Clowney to be OUR pick. But then again I wouldn`t rule out Manziel, Mack or Robinson. Heck I wouldn`t even rule out Bortles and Bridgewater and I definetly wouldn`t rule out a trade.

This is nerve racking and exciting...
