Who will the Texans draft in the first round?

Call your shot on how well you know the organization. Not who they should pick or who you would pick - who the organization will pick. Trade up? Trade down? Stay put? And who do we select? Feel free to extrapolate beyond the first round if you would like. I'm predicting a trade up for Mahomes.

A fern. I think they'll trade up to draft a fern.

Considering Pancakes said we would be targeting a QB in 1st round I think we can safely rule that out.
Yeah I can't see it. I will be shocked if they do.
I can see them waiting til R2 and then it is cheaper to make a move up if necessary.
I think the target in R2 will be among four - Kaaya, Peterman, Kizer or Dobbs.
But I digressed - the first round I think it will be Garrett Bolles.

Do you think Peterman has the ability to be our franchise QB?.
If we were to draft Peterman, he would be QB3 this season. Next season he would be QB2. He could be ready to compete for QB1 by his third season. With the right coaching his floor is good Schaub. His ceiling is a very, very good QB. Yes, a franchise QB. A few lone individuals out there in football land says he is the best QB in the draft with the chance of being a sucess.

This is going to be a very interesting draft from the perspective of the Texans, particularely how the QB's and the OL'men come off the board.

Despite all the misdirection, I think the Texans want to draft an OT. At 1-25 there will be several still on the board, on our short list, giving us the opportunity to trade back. Hopefully, we'll be able to play several teams against each other wanting to trade up to draft a QB, and we can get a high #3 out of the trade.

We then draft our RT with our first pick.

If the trade doesn't happen, I still see us taking an OT.

I watched his Clemson, Miami, Penn St and North Carolina games. From my viewpoint I think he has as good of chance of developing in to a franchise QB as any QB in this class, if not more so. I like that he's a 5 year Senior and not a 3 year Junior. I like that he graduated in 3 years and scored a 33 on the Wonderlic. I like that he graduated High School early. I like that he got hi MBA at Pitt. I think he has very good feet and a quick release. And Pro Football Focus had him rated as the best QB under pressure. He's in the Top 10 in Passing Efficiency and in the Top 5 in Yards per Completion, so he's not a dink and dunker. I like his accuracy and the way he leads his WRs to maximize their yards after catch. I like that he plays taking snaps from under the Center.

Why he left Tennessee. He was recruited by Derek Dooley as a Pro Style QB. Dooley left after 1 year. Butch Jones the new HC recruited Josh Dobbs a dual threat QB his first year. Dobbs was more of a runner than a passer. Jones offense was not a pro style offense. Peterman graduated after 3 years and transferred to Pitt. Oh and BTW I think he will be a better NFL QB than anyone currently on the Texans roster.

This is also my preference. I keep hearing / reading from different sources that you don't draft a G in the first round.

Why not? If good guards are so plentiful why don't we have one.

:coffee:
Cowboys Travis Fredrick and Zack Martin, both 1st RD draft picks support your argument. And by most accounts the Cowboys have the best OL in the NFL.

Trade back to early RD2. - Peterman.

I think Peterman might be there for the Texans in the 2nd but I'm pretty sure he and Davis jump Kizer .

Why is it every time I look @ Peterman tape I think of Hoyer? See a game manager, on smaller side, not athletic but can move to extend plays, always looks to throw, not a strong arm but good @ ball placement.

I would like to sign off but just don't see a high ceiling. Perfect fit for O'Brian I guess :shades:

Peterman has such a quick mind, which OB covets. Same thing he saw in Garoppolo, but decided to get cute in the draft. Quick release, accurate, quick mind. He just doesn't have the "physical" traits.

I listened to a Jayson Braddock and Lance Zierlein podcast the other day regarding the draft. Lance says he's hearing Peterman in the 3rd - 4th round. Lance was one of the first to jump on the Peterman bandwagon.

I do remember Jayson saying he heard the Texans don't like Peterman.

I see the same thing. Looks like a Dalton type game manager to me.

In terms of physical traits he's these things, yes. But I bump him up in an intangible way similar to how some do Watson.

He competes with a chip on his shoulder with a little Favre/Brady-like punch to his demeanor. And he does so while being bright, composed, and capable under duress. His accuracy, eyes down field, improvisation, and decision making paired with his intelligence and approach make me think he could actually have a higher ceiling than many are predicting for him once the pro game slows down for him.

My comp is Fitzmagic, who is better than Hoyer. Started off as a backup then found some starting gigs. I see Peterman as being able to do that. Not a big arm, but a better athlete than given credit for.

I would go Peterman over Davis, who has a better arm. His delivery spooks me. Probably just post-Osweiler stress syndrome.

Neither did Joe Montana or Tom Brady.

Montana is 6'2" and weighed 205 lbs.

and Tom Brady's athleticism....well...judge for yourself:

At worst.

With Dalton at QB for the Texans I think there's a good chance they make the AFC Championship game.

Dalton is a choke artist. Bengals had one of the better rosters in the league a few years back and won 10+ games 4 years in a row. Dalton went 0-4 in the playoffs. Completed 55% of his passes with 1 TD / 6 INT and a 57.8 QB Rating.

Closest they got to winning was when he was injured and McCarron almost beat the Steelers if not for the defense getting those 3 idiotic personal fouls that put Pittsburgh in FG range at the last minute.

For the record, I'm comparing Peterman to Dalton talent wise. Not saying Peterman is a choke artist. His best game this year was against eventual champ Clemson.

Dalton reminds me of Schaub in that respect

But Schaub didn't get the playoffs to lose
