Should we give Carr another game after 3 INT's?
Should we give the Veteran Banks a shot at proving he still has what it takes?
Should we test the NFL Europe MVP and PreSeason QB star Dave Ragone a shot to be the leader?

Also, please make your argument why you make your pick.

I will start with my pick of Dave Ragone.

I think that he may be able to work in our offense better. I have a great feeling about this guy based on what I saw in the preseason. He has something that David Carr doesnt have yet since training camp - and that is a passing td. When he played in the preseason, he looked more motivated, and more like a leader than carr does. Carr just always has that depressed look on his face...like he gives up. He feels his job is secure. I think Ragone will try double hard to prove himself if we throw him in there...because he did it in Europe, he did it in the preseason, and he has one major thing that Carr doesnt have right now....and that is CONFIDENCE IN HIMSELF AND HIS TEAM.

Give him a shot. :howdy:

I selected Dave Ragone as much for the possible effect it might have on Carr as anything else. It could also be argued that you give Carr another week to see if he can respond to the thumping he took this week and that's a valid approach. It's been done before though and you see what we're still working with. Sit him and let the lefty play. If anything just to see what we have in Ragone.

Ive got an even better idea .... How about Casserly or Capers for QB ? Maybe if they see how BAD that O-line is they might go get some help :bag:

I voted for Banks to play out the remainder of the season , no need to get Carr killed with this horrid O-line ..... Put him back out there next season .... After a season to mend his wounds and an off-season in which you draft at least one FIRST DAY lineman (D'Brickashaw Ferguson) and pick up at least two more via FA .... Then you plug him back in as the QB .

As for Banks , I could care less if he got hurt ....He's at the end of his rope as it is ..

Ragone ... dont play him behind this line , dont want him hurt or gun shy like Carr is , we may need him someday .

actually i think ragone would be more of a fit right now this team needs something and david aint gonna provide that spark of leadership that they need.

i'll go with vince young, is that a viable option, heck i'm an aggie and i'm impressed with vince, ok seriously though no doubt about it in my mind you go with carr, you think carr get sacked alot try putting in banks, he'll be a statue in the pocket, ragone plain and simple isn't all that good, so what the guy put up numbers in europe, it's europe! get real guys the best option we have is carr, you give carr any type of protection, and if his recievers actually run the right routes he might throw up some yards, it's a team effort it starts with the offensive line we should be talkin about how they need new offensive lineman not a new qp, or the fact that our coaching staff is horrible...

It would be nice to see Ragone in a "what if" scenario but if he went in and tanked it, suddenly we have 2 QBs who aren't playing well and the one that IS proven has lost all confidence. Not saying there's much confidence after todays game...but still. I don't think changing QBs after the first game is the answer.

ragone will be a prototype back up qb he's not an option, grrr what do i know our coaching staff sucks they'll probably be a point in the season where ragone will play :pigfly: lol yaa i'm being sarcastic

Carr has 7 ints in the last 5 games.

You got to start him though, next game. If he is still in a funk, throws another 3 picks or some silly nonsense like that.

You guys got some serious trouble.

Tough dicision. As much as I hated last night's loss, judging Carr's progression against w1+w2's opponents might not give him justice. Going against the #1 and #2 defence of last year is tough, no matter who you are. As much as I like Ragone I think that Carr should be allowed to play through the first 3 games, that is, last chance to show progress is w4 against Cincinnati.

If he screws up there(whether it's him, the O-line or the coaching) things need to change after w4 if we're still collection losses.

If we're 0-3 after Cincinnati I would let Ragone start. He might not be "proven" as Carr(is he really?) but he is confident and imo shows real good vision down the field.

Also, to make the calls less conservative I thought Mcnair should introduce a new set of rules. If Palmer calls more than 5 rushes through the middle, every rush after the fifth results in a 10k$ reduction in his salery; per rush. :)

I'm about to vote for Ragone just to give Carr a break. Pittsburgh will be after the QB all game long too. Maybe Ragone would show us something against a great defense with no protection whatsoever, or maybe it will end this kind of discussion, but at least Carr will not be dead. :embarrass

You have to give him 1 more shot to see if he can bounce back. Maybe he is shell-shocked after 3 years of being pounded (I know I would be), and dropping him now will either make him or break him. Not the way he would want to lose his job I'm sure (if Ragone was brought in for instance and succeeded). I agree with the above posts that state if he's fit he goes under centre and that he deserves at least 3 games, which would would mean he gets 'til after the Bengals game to see if he can get his rhythm back...

Someday is today...Ragone should be taking first unit snaps over at the practice bubble all week long, and starting against Pittsburgh, with Banks as the #2 guy. Carr should well understand that he is p***ing away his opportunity by the end of the week.

Playing well against Tampa's 3rd string D will not help Ragone when he's got the Steeler's first string line-backers in his face.

I'm terified of what would happen if we put a QB with as little scrambling ability as Ragone behind the Texans horrible o-line. It can't get much worse than the last game though.

Ok, this poll is stupid. The fact that so many people voted for Ragone proves that this board is full of knee-jerk chicken little's who have no sense of reality. I'm not defending Carr's performance, but this is just as embarassing.

Carr will be ok. If you watched the game yesterday you would see that he is supremely unconfident in the offense and offensive line. I mean it is the same things we were talking about all offseason that did not get addressed. Well let's talk about what did get addressed and how many whiffs Morlon Greenwood had as DJ put up 8taks and a sack. Let's discuss how we had no leadership in the secondary or on the field. We will be ok at least after going 0-2 Palmer will be on his way out. What happened to the three step drops and quick fire. I did not see that, I saw a QB who hated the playcalling and was holding the ball to long waiting for someone other than the double and sometime tripled covered AJ to get open. Damn Palmer...

Funny, I was about to say the same thing, except a little role-reversal should be in affect.

Palmer to be be QB, let Carr call the same plays for him.

Bring in Capers for DD... don't think there will be quite as much time to write down what happened on the last play.

Finally, Casserly for Riley. Gotta protect Palmer's backside don't cha know? True, there may not have been that good O-linemen this past draft that fit into our... um, scheme?... but what about the previous years?

As for the poll - tough decision. I'd like to save Carr's life and keep him out to maybe learn a little more on the sideline (ala S. McNair style) but flip side, I'd like to see our offensive leader bounce back with some authority.

being a colt fan I have no bias, but carr is the qb, the problem with the texans isn't the qb it is the o line.

Oh i'd give the keys to Ragone, that way David Carr can stay healthy and all you people think that it's David Carrs fault for our bad play can take another look at out offensive line, lack of a good TE, and a lack of a #2 reciever.

Actually we will probably be starting a different QB in week three regardless. This week the Steeler's defense is watching tape of our pathetic excuse for an O-line. I'm sure by the end of the viewing session they will be frothing at the mouth. I expect Carr to be injured in this game as they sack him about seven times and flatten him a half dozen others after he gets the ball off.

I think Banks should start. Ragone is good for a trade and is worthless injured and we can set a new all time sacks allowed record since Banks is a statue.

:bomb: :ouch:

I think this coaching staff has totally ruined a good QB (Carr). How long can a QB set back there and get hammered before it takes a negative affect on his progression. The poor guy is so scared of getting drilled he only looks for one receiver then takes off or dumps to DD. They should have never started him until they had a decent line to protect him. Who knows if he will ever get over the beatings he has taken at the expense of the O-line. I say they should start one of the others and let Carr regroup. Banks plain sucks though, and Ragone needs more development, so what are we to do but keep calling for Palmers head?

Everyone is going to get their wish, Carr will be on the sidelines with an injury by the 4th game so we will see what Ragone will do.

What does Capers do with all those notes he takes? I bet they are all piled up in his living room...all over the floor, couches, tv, ...just everywhere. Mrs. Capers probably says "Dom, would you clean up all these paper notes - they are all over the place - what are you gonna do with em?"...Capers replies "Im gonna get to em....eventually."

I dont want anyone to get the wrong idea of why i started this topic. When Carr was drafted, I was among the most excited. Year one, then two, at points, I really saw David making some good plays. I AM a David Carr fan. Unfortunatly, I am also a Texans fan. You have to do what it takes to win. And if that means benching the star...you have got to do it. I dont want this Houston team to end up moving to another state because fans get tired of the losses. Houston is not like Cleveland in which they care so much about the game of football they dont even notice their team has losing season after losing season. The city of Houston and Texas wants and deserves wins. I do not want the label of "Big Business, Bad Football" on the Texans as it was on the Oilers.

The fact of the matter is that Carr is not showing enough effort out there. I know the system isnt great...but every team has an obstacle...our coaching staff is ours. I just want to see what a fired up confident QB like Ragone can do for the team.

Ragone? Banks?

Did you voters even see the game?? Carr is the easy choice. He was running for his life all day. That O-line is awful.
No QB does well with a bad O-line, and only one receiver.
Only the football-ignorant fan could possibly believe Carr should not start.

Ragone can trade his European MVP trophy for a wienerschnitzel. That's about what it's worth.

I saw the game just fine thatnkyaverymuch. I have been watching football longer than some of you have been alive..parts of 4 decades. What I saw out there by our QB was an embarrasement. If I were Carr, I would write a giant check to Mr. Mcnair today to give him back some of my money, otherwise I would be guilty of theft. His QB rating was 12. TWELVE. How can you people possibly think some of that doesn't fall on Carr's shoulders? Why is he the golden boy, with this invisible ring of invinceibility around him? He seems to have some kind of super hero powers to make everyone think he is mistake free, as if he is a cog in a machine that is out of his control. If Carr was a Warren Moon, there wouldn't be a person in this city calling for his head after that atrocity. I think you know where I am going with this...the blond hair, the family man, the commnuity activist, and all around good guy can do no wrong. This is the 10 thousand pound Elephant in the living room, and it's very obvious. Let's face facts, there is a double standard. :brickwall

My vote easily goes to Ragone. Can Ragone possibly have lower than 12? If so, I would like to find out on my own thank you.

Start Carr. If he gets hit with 3+ sacks and/or 2+ ints before halftime, then bring in Banks.

No use throwing Ragone to the wolves and taking a chance of him developing happy feet, too.

keep carr. thinking ragone could do a better job is rediculous. he is untested and would get sacked just as much if not more than carr.

You may have watched football longer than most but you can't determine Carr doesn't have blonde hair?

:homer:

I dunno.. considering that there have been cases in the past of QBs making olines look worse than they are.. id like to see Ragone or Banks out there for a few games and see if things look better.

The team must show that they will sit you, no matter who you are. Sit linemen who miss assignments, receivers that don't watch for the ball, and your franchise quarterback who stinks right now. He must feel that he should earn his job, not that it is his job no matter what. Ragone will come and and fight for a job and show his best. Carr will screw up and say oh well, I have millions and I am the franchise. Just watch the Greenbay game from last year, when Carr was wearing a mic. Carr praises Farve so much that he just assumes Green Bay will win. Farve deserves alot of credit, but when you play them you should be on the sideline yelling tear him up defense.

Ragone to start----please, he's a 3rd teamer. No choice, Carr must start.

I do strongly feel that Carr knew for 3 years that he was the man. I feel he would put a little "pep in his step" if he had someone as a backup that would challenge him for starting QB.
