Who should Caserio target as the next HC?

Mangler

Toro de España
While Lovie Smith will more than likely be the HC through 2023, who would you guys like to see as the next HC for the Houston Texans?

I guess I’ll go first…

Demeco Ryans. He’s doing an awesome job in SF, and he’s young. I think he’s going to be the next Top HC candidate. I know it’s a long shot, especially after all that happened between him and the organization, but money talks. If Caserio continues to draft well, maybe Houston will be an appealing landing spot for him.

Neon Deion Primetime Sanders. Unfortunately, no self-respecting head coach will work for the McNair's and come to Houston, it's where Head Coaches go to kill the HC careers.

After the last 2 HC searching fiascos, I do believe that Nick Caserio's career of hiring HC is over.

The McNair's have always hired the HC's from their inception.

Mike Kalfka. or Joe Lombardi

Someone must be really bored. It's way too early for this, there is no telling who will be available. Ryans will probably be gone, Mayo will probably be gone. The other hot names from last year and this will change. Perhaps Payton wants to come back by then... maybe Belicheck is available.

So, do you think Manning will reenter the NFL as a coach in in an office job? As long as he's not staring at me from the TV like on that Monday night game, I'd be fine with it. I think.

No, I was talking Sean Payton not Peyton Manning

I believe Sean Payton could find the Texans pretty attractive since they have a solid GM in place, their cap space will return in 2023 and be even healthier in 2024, have solid pieces in place, and have 2 RD1 picks in the 2023 NFL Draft and a couple more in 2024.

Daniel Calhoun had no clue who David Culley was until Jack told him that is who Jack and Nick were going to hire as the next head coach. Then Daniel Calhoun said OK.

If you say so. Still the McNair's history says they make the final call on who the next HC is.

We're all speculating. I wish they would've just got their coach of the future before Lovie so there would be some kind of system in place so Carsterio can draft players to fit the system. When you have bridge coaches, which makes zero sense, now you have players drafted who don't fit unless you hire someone off that same tree. That's why I said if they wanted to keep Lovie on as DC, they could've hired someone like Raheem Morris as head coach. Jmo, but that's why it takes teams so long to get out of a rebuild even with draft picks. I do like Ryans and they do play alot of cover 2 and they do swap fronts alot too. I just don't think they would fire Lovie after 1 year even if conventional wisdom says you should.

I like Demeco, Jon Gannon, Mike Kafka or Jerod Mayo. More so Mayo, I think he could turn things around here in a hurry. He'd have to bring in an OC, not sure who that would be but would hope he would make a good choice.

I'm hoping they bring in an offensive minded HC, after they add to the offense next offseason. So far the players they drafted last yr appear to me to be the type of guys that can fit in any scheme. Stingley/Petrie/Green/Metchie/Pierce/Harris are scheme diverse IMHO, and I suspect next yrs will be as well. The only difference might be the size of the DT's and Jalen Anderson is the guy I hope Caserio drafts if say the Texans have the 5th pick. He's scheme diverse as well. Agreed about Lovie not being fired after 1 yr. But I'm hearing that there are rumblings out there from people in the know that it could happen. Hope they're wrong unless they could get Kalfka.

Don't know about Harris yet because he's a smallish will. Green could be I guess, but depends on what you're looking for at DE. The others I kinda agree because they're skill players. Verdict out on Metchie, too early to tell also. Good point

Derrick's mind was made up the day Daniel Calhoun hired Nick Caserio. Excuse me, the day that Jack Easterby hired Nick Caserio. Sorry.

LMAO

Are you sure it wasn't made up when Cal refused to back up Derrick after derrick's perversions came to light?

I'm talking about Kenyon

I am not interested in another defensive head coach. I would like to see either the Ohio State offensive coordinator or their wide receiver coach move here in some capacity but not HC. If Stroud is our number one pick in 2023 I could see that possibly happening. I am tired of the old retreads showing up on our doorstep. Could we get Payton who's under contract thru 2024 after next season for the Brown's round 1 in 2024?

Sean Payton HC

Brian Hartline Ohio St as Wr coach and passing coordinator

Kevin Wilson OC and TEs
From Ohio State.

Ryan Walters DC from Illinois tremendous stats.

Payton could insist in picking his own guys but if he's not happy with those three he'd be silly.

Sean Payton isn't going to be the Texans next HC.

Pretty sure, an hour after Jack hired Nick, Derrick tweeted, "Some things never change". TRANSLATION: I'm outta here!
That was proceeded by Watson saying people walking around with power when they don't have any. BOB was gone, Carsterio wasn't here yet and Cal is the owner. I wonder who he was talking about? 🤣 🤣

He was talking about Easterby

Thought he was talking about the equipment manager. Something about tables & little towels

Do y’all remember when Todd Haley, Scott Pioli and Easterby were in KC together and Haley said his phones were tapped?

I wonder how much truth there was to that. And, put your tin foil hat on, if after working briefly with Pioli, who got Easterby the gig in New England, that Easterby arranged the Houstonian for Watson so that he could record what was going on? What if Easterby has tapes of Watson? What if that’s why Watson was adamant of getting rid of Easterby and why Easterby has stuck around seemingly doing nothing?

And I'm glad.

He never should have been drafted to begin with.

Of course I have never worshipped at the altar of Derrick. I've always thought he was very overrated.

Texans need an experienced Head Coach who’s been through the fire and proven he can still field a quality product.

Don’t want to pull a Head Coach out of College (see Texansbull post).

Also no coordinator’s please. All the Texans coaches were coordinators except for Lovie.

We need a good man, person, like Lovie who is committed 24-7 to his team, good and bad. Difference is, he should not assume any of the coordinators duties (Kubiak/O’Brian OC or Capers/Smith DC). Leader of men and role model for community who is looking for a great opportunity (Texans) to make Houston a winner.

It’s someone currently a Head Coach in the NFL. Have a year to let things happen and run their course. I know one thing for sure, If Texans draft them a franchise QB in 2023 candidates will be very interested in becoming the next Texan coach.

You've narrowed the field quite a bit... who do you think might be available that fits your criteria?

A role model for the community? Who cares about that. I guess Sean Payton and his Oxy aren't going to be under consideration. Dan Quinn is the only DC that I would even begin to consider. I would guess he meets your criteria.

There are no true franchise QB's in the 2023 draft. IMHO

Wouldn't a new HC in 2024 rather start his program with the QB of his choosing from the 2024 draft?

Give me Kalfka, Northwestern grad. Learned under Reid/Daboll, has been successful everywhere he's beem
