On PFT Live, Vic Tafur of San Francisco Chronicle on chances QB Derek Carr will start Week One for the Raiders: 100 percent.

This is all going horribly wrong... should've been Bortles. :headhurts:

Call me crazy but I like what JAX is doing with Bortles. They are bringing him along slowly. Something that 99% of teams just do not do anymore. We shouldn't be surprised that he is more talented than Henne. He was the #3 pick! I like that they are sticking to their guns though and I think it will pay off for them. Gus Bradley is a heck of a coach and will be a thorn in our side for years.

For the first time in seven years, it appears that an NFL season will begin with no rookies as starting quarterbacks, barring a late switch or last-minute injury.

Former NFL quarterback Warren Moon, for one, isn’t surprised.

“These guys went in the first round this year,” the Pro Football Hall of Famer said Tuesday. “But that doesn’t mean they were really first-rounders.”
...

“The teams that needed quarterbacks took them in the first round,” Moon said in a telephone interview. “But if these quarterbacks had been in the same draft with Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, Russell Wilson and that [2012] group, you wouldn’t have seen any of these guys go in the first round.”

Yeah, I don't agree with the 'it's all of a sudden a good idea to sit your drafted QBs' sentiment. You start your best 22, and Bortles has clearly outplayed Henne. I don't think it's even close. And having followed the draft pretty closely you'll know that Bortles has the mental makeup to handle it. Heck, that might be his best quality. Not that he's the smartest -- that he's highly competitive and has a good forgetter.

I'll say it again -- it's almost like Bradley doesn't see the Jaguars winning this division this year... they can, and they can lose it by getting Ls with Henne. One loss could cost them.

A'ight, I'm off my soapbox

here and moving on. I guess I'm a sore "loser". ;)

In what way is Bortles more talented than Henne? He isn't faster, doesn't have a stronger arm, & if he's more accurate I doubt by much.

I liked Henne coming out of Michigan & I liked his progress in Miami. I thought he was going to be their long time starter, but things didn't work out that way.

Don't get me wrong, I think we've seen enough of Henne to know he is just a backup, but it's not because he isn't as talented as Bortles, or even Luck for that matter.

He lacks the intangibles of a true leader, the deep understanding of the game, and the courage of a champion.

Props to the above for getting it right.

Well yeah... I forgot about the stringer arm thing.
Forgot the stringer arm??? SMFH!!!! :toropalm:
You can't forget the stringer arm!! And I thought you were a football fan!!

It's on PFT, so it must be true...

EDIT: That's some irony there. I wonder what David Carr is saying right now...other than I wish I was on a team...

Can't say I'm not surprised by Carr starting. He has the potential to be a top 10 QB, but I saw him as a guy who needed time and coaching to develop before being put in live action where he will develop bad habits.

Did you watch him on Gruden's QB camp? I thought he did really well & demonstrated that he has a pretty deep understanding of the game. I didn't think much of him though because I had the impression that he didn't throw the ball downfield... I think he threw the deep ball more last Thursday than he did all of the 2013 season.

However, I still would not welcome him to Houston (I know you didn't ask, but they were talking about it on the radio) because of all the extra stuff we "know" comes with a Carr.

Still... If I were King in Oakland & Schaub didn't have an elbow issue, I'd be starting Schaub. At least until we get past Watt/Clowney/Cushing in week 2.

Chad Henne's $1.25M in playtime incentives counting on the '14 cap will be credited back to the Jags if Blake Bortles stays healthy.

Reason enough to start the kid. :kitten:

:( we could have had him but noooooo we got that "nasty tough guard" who has yet to even make the starting lineup.

It's going to suck if he turns out to be good, because if we don't get a franchise quarterback soon, all we're going to hear is how we didn't make a trade for him.

:freakout:

On the radio a couple days ago they mentioned that there was a source from a team that stated they didn't like TB because he didn't seem to have a commanding presence. Didn't think he was a strong leader.

They speculated that it likely could have been the Texans that felt that way.

They said this because ideally he'd seem to fit pretty well in OB's offense, and then something else about some of the other teams that needed QB's not making sense for them to say that or something. Anyways...it sounded compelling at the time.

I think you get a lot of "coach speak" with these prospects. They've grown up playing so much football, they end up sounding like their coaches, which in turn makes their personality seem manufactured. That's probably true for a lot of these prospects. I got that vibe from TB.

So far both Bridgewater and Bortles are looking good. Granted neither are facing defensive juggernauts but for rookies being thrown out there after a week prep as starters it's impressive the command they are both showing presently.

Carr and Bortles (in limited action) haven't impressed me.

Bridgewater looked better. But then, I'm biased as he was my favorite of the top 3 guys at QB this year.So maybe I just WANT him to seem better.

I think the Titans may have finally decided to try a real tankjob. If Mett looks great, then fine. But if he doesn't then they know to go allin pat the draft.

I'm interested to see.

A lot of the objection to Mettenberger was about off the field stuff.

IMHO close to half way thru the season, the Titans have decided that they need to go in another direction than Jake Locker. Jake is not the answer. This decision says more about Jake than it does Zach. No time is better than right now to see what they have in Mett. It gives them 8-9 games to evaluate the new guy.

So Whisenhunt has determined that Locker and Whitehurst are not the future of the Tennessee Titans. At what point does O'Brien figure out that Fitzpatrick is not the future of the Texans and make a move to Mallett or Savage?
