Practice... Practice...Practice... If your primary focus is DT, then get 2 friends to line up against you and keep you from getting your goal (a flag or something 5 feet behind them). If you get it within 8 seconds, then they both have to do 2 pushups for not stopping you. If they stop you, you have to do 3 pushups for not getting the flag. Get Strong and have incentive. Have them alternate sides to so they have strong and weak sides. The other thing I invite you to learn, study people, EVERYONE on thier movements. When you start watching this, you can use it against them. For example, watch feet and placement. If the opposing Center has a tendency to over-pursue, use his mometum against him. You cannot learn it over night, but if you can use body placement against people, the better it makes you look when you put them on thier back. Lastly.. Every play, treat it like the DT or Center of the other team or the QB for that matter just slapped your mom.. and make him pay for it with your hit/defense. Just my 2 cents

thanks for the info.any one else have any thing for me?

Listen to your coaches; even thought you might not want to admit it, they know more about the game than you do. Work on the fundamentals, they are the most important. As center, you must be able to snap the ball and get out in front of the defender who you are assigned to block quickly (or the zone you are supposed to cover, depending on the play's blocking scheme). Get one of the quarterbacks to work on this before and after practice for a few minutes every day. Even when you get to the point that you can snap and move like you were born to do, continue to practice it. Work on your footwork, it is important not only for offense but for defense too. You have to have fast feet and a stable stance to run block, play defense, and most importantly pass block. Work on the ropes or tires, buy a jump rope and try to go as fast as you can go for as long as you can go until you can put the backs to shame. What you do in the off season is so important to your game. Don't stop working on your feet just because you only lift weights in class during off season. I'm not saying to not lift weights, you should lift after school on top of during class. Work on those feet; build up your endurance, especially if you plan on going both ways. I went to a small school and didn't have a choice, I played center and linebacker and the coaches made most of us who played both ways join track whether we wanted to or not. But we were never the team on the field sucking wind in the fourth quarter.

Hope that gives you some ideas, it has admittedly been awhile but if you have any more specific questions, ask them.

Stay low, and your NUMBER ONE weight room focus should be leg strength. Don't get caught up in bench press contests with teammates. While they're over there doing bench press so they can play patty cake with opponents, do squats so you'll be DRIVING opponents back, not having slap fights with them.

I can't stress lower body strength enough.

If you need anymore tips let me know. I used to coach 6th graders in Cypress before I moved to Arizona. Probably could have got a coaching position at Cinco Ranch if I didn't move out here. Played at Katy in HS under the greatest coaches in the state of Texas.

Keep growing, because by the time you're ready for the draft the average weight for those positions will probably be 350 pounds!

Seriously though, you're 15, so practice hard and prepare but remember that it's more about having fun. And don't forget that the only place you should be working harder than on the football field is in the classroom. Smart guys make good football players... always been that way, always will be.

I played both positions in highschool, so I know what your going thru. Besides listening to your coaches, you should definetly hit the weight room every day in the off season to get stronger. You should do excersises that strengthen your core and lower body the most. And remember to stay LOW when you play either position, thats how you win the battle.

at the HS level, don't worry about weight. Our NT in the 3-4 back in 94 at Katy was 5'10 about 195lb, strong like bull, and was awesome. Just let your body grow naturally, and increase your leg strength and your short quickness (agility drills, ropes, that sort of stuff)

people say that i dont look 250lbs.they say i have a lot of musle.i guess thats a good thin right?
