Excellent eval and for others reading , he played behind some pretty good talents his first years with the Longhorns. He's also a Texas boy from Bastrop which would be an interest to Nick.

Me, I like Conerly…but he’s not the starting LT when the season kicks off. I could go developmental LT a bit later and still have them working the sideline.

LG is the position that must get an answer b/c anyone who’s watched Texans football knows Howard isn’t the answer period. Donovan Jackson is capable of coming in and supplanting Howard in a straight up competition. DJ is a 10 year answer at the position.

I don’t see much of a change going into next season with Patterson at Center, Scruggs him st4eat RG, and Fisher at RT. LG needs an answer now, not next season. LT has some veterans to go thru while a prospect puts his time in.
I think the odds of finding a day 1, LT starter are extremely low... particularly in the latter half of the draft. I look at the Jets taking Olu Fashanu at #11, and much like we did with Blake Fisher he was brought along slowly until he earned a starting spot later in the year. Now (just looked) the Jets fans feel like they've found their foundational LT (though of course some are still whining that they didn't take Bowers--no surprise :winky: .) So taking the best 'developmental' LT will be worth it when 2026 comes around. I also think a guard in the 2nd can also get their feet under them and ready to perform in 2026.

I think the Texans have done what they can to have a somewhat functional OL in 2025 (my complete guess is that they'd rank around #18--give or take 10) without any draft picks added. Most of that is due to a new scheme and slightly more faith in the line coach. But adding in some young talent in front of Stroud is, in my mind, an absolute must.

I'm not writing off 2025 at all, but I look at 2026 as perhaps the first real target year to put together a legitimate SB contender. Stroud will be in his 4th year, the offensive line will have been seasoned with young talent, hopefully Nico finds a running mate, DeMeco's D will be in it's prime, and off course British Brooks will be leading us down the field (that was for badboy).

I think (hope) they are banking on a culture and scheme shift improving their OL moreso than talent. They have multiple first and second round OL on the roster still, these guys have been good OL before. And in the case of Tomlinson and Brown they’ve been pro bowl OL (though I don’t expect either of them to play to that level anymore).

I could see them doing a “mini” version of the Will Anderson/CJ 2023 draft splash to commit to the OL. But more than likely, I expect them to bank on solid guys with the right mentality to upgrade this unit.

Should have plenty of that type of player to choose from at 25 (or within 5 picks or so… Banks!)

First mention I've heard of fan favorite Brooks in a long time. I hope he's healthy and can contribute this year. He is a big boy!

Will Johnson should scare you.

In 2023, he suffered an characterized knee ligament injury for which he lost 3 games.

Last season, he suffered a significant turf toe that was virtually unreported. The beginning of this year, he underwent a scope to remove loose articular cartilage fragments and smoothing out articular surfaces (these were residual from his 2023 knee injury. After not running the 40 at the Combine and then not at the ProDay because of a grade II hamstring he suffered after the Combine.

Too many questions regarding his potential longevity.

My feeling towards drafting o-line now is more so for the future. No one wants to have rookies protect the franchise QB. That's why you want to draft them now, get them in the system, and have them ready when their time comes. In an emergency, you may have to put them on the field. But at least they are your guys. Not a vet with his 5th system and 7th line coach.
