Trade up for Loveland but not more than 5 spots.

I wish I was as into the draft as you guys. This year I haven’t even been able to figure out who the best players in this draft are.

But if I were giving Caserio direction I’d ask him to identify the best 5 players in the draft & what it would cost to get each one. Then I would decide what I’m comfortable giving up to get one of them.

Maybe top 12 or something especially if this draft is like recent drafts with a steep drop off after the top 15 or so.

In every round I want the best players I can get. Regardless of “need”

Josh Conerly Jr. 1st rd.

Trade up in 2nd. Using 3rd (89) via Tunsil for WR2 Jayden Higgins pick (37) Raiders.

Then in 3rd BRBA (Best RB Available).

I like it! I think that’s a realistic scenario to get Higgins. And I could see a back like Judkins (or take your pick of the 2nd round talents at the position this year) falling to the 3rd. I’m actually counting on it for my mocks ;)

No day 3 running back interests you? I was hoping we could use round 3s to address other positions.

Absolutely be interested in a twitchy, speedster with great hands and return ability.

Don’t think Judkins gets out of 2nd (another PFF mis rank). So in reality, Texans would need to trade up, if really targeting player? (Ala Higgins move up).

My BRBA would probably be Jordan James, Oregon, but then having two Ducks would be replicating two Hurricanes 😂

As the draft gets closer I seem to have chosen guys that are rapidly moving up the boards. Of course that seems to happen every year, drat. It was not that long ago that no one was interested in Conerly or Charles Grant for example.
RBs Dylan Sampson and Damien Martinez are climbing.

When you say no one, hope you don’t mean NFL teams 😂

This happens every yr.

Golden was projected as a late rd, UDFA at the start of 2024 by many of the draftniks.

I like your idea, but you know Demeco is going to get at least one of his wish list guys on the D in the first three picks.
There is one guy I think DeMeco would love to work & develop his tools into Hunters replacement and that’s Landon Jackson, Arkansas. He is as swarm as it gets. Ranked #47 on Dane Bruglers board, not sure about DeMeco’s board but if he’s available in the 2nd, he’d have to be close if not BPA. Every bit of 6’6” 265 will only get stronger and bigger as he fills out his frame. Loves Football, non stop motor, great teammate, willing back/up to grow into starter role.

Overall, Jackson has a different type of pass-rushing skill set because he isn’t a super-fluid athlete, but his raw power, strength in his hands and consistent effort make him effective. He should be expected to compete for starter-level snaps as a rookie. Brugler

This is a deep draft for Dlineman. Plenty of talent available deep into the second and even the third rounds.
I also like Jack Sawyer De/Ed out of Ohio.
Has a lot of prototypical traits and skills for the position and a high motor.
Would love to see him under Ryan's tutorship.

Sawyer is smart with high motor, studious film study to read & react but not instinctual, lacks prototypical traits like Jackson.

Landon comp is Max Crosby. In 3 years he’s 35 million a year Daniel Hunter replacement when they have paid CJ & Will Anderson Jr. ♟️ piece move.

Jackson had a better combine and his measurements are better. But neither is a DT...which is what we need to add to the DL ASAP

Here’s the big one, next years LT crop doesn’t measure up to this years class. Really feel a 3rd is worth it to trade up 6 spots to Tampa Bay, given your tackle (Banks/Conerly) is still available draft day.

Only 1 glaring issue. No space eating DT. Seeing it is the 1 key spot on the DL we don't have and need
Agree.
I don't think there is a lay down misiere DT around our pick.
If there was, that would certainly throw more doubt on who Texans take at #25

What’s wrong with Kenneth Grant? He’s not just 3-4 Nose, he’s a penetrating, pass rushing threat, plus run stopper DT in 4-3 as well.

You have more faith in him than I do. Watching the line drills from the Senior Bowl all I saw few, if any, reps I would feel confident saying Jackosn won the rep.

Exactly! Get your future franchise left tackle while he is staring you in the face. We have trade capital to get what we need after that. It may not even be necessary to trade.

Dez Watson is exactly that.

There are a few who will be around in both the 1st and 2nd with a few more in the 3rd. Any of these guys are in play. Some are legit pass rush and run staffers. Others just gobble RBs and take up 2 blockers or they will push the OL into the QB. Walker and Williams will do that.

Unlikely still around

Should be around thru the 3rd.

And yes, a true monster

If Nick was going to take a defensive tackle on day two, I hope it is Alfred Collins. We just need too much for that to happen

I'd be good with Collins. Checks off Caserio boxes, Big School, Longhorns, Swarm, keep DeMeco engaged, BPA?
:logo:
Yes sir! I also want to keep Caley engaged with the best left tackle Conerly and maybe the best wide receiver in Higgins. If we can get a trade up and get Alfred Collins it will be a great draft.
Say.. I just may have something there! Time to start a new mock.

I'm curious where you got this, is there's an article on the LT crop from next year.

Just a quick review of next year's tackles makes me agree.
NIL era will uncover some gems when prospects leave their smaller school for a big time program (and payday).

What was Golden’s expected draft position this time last year for example?

I don’t base my decisions in this year’s draft on what I might “think” next year will look like. Prospects rise and fall every year for a variety of reasons.

And if we’re gonna bash a class, this year’s crop of OTs fall short of last year’s.

A year can make a big difference, but if it turns out to be true it really slides Charles Grant up my board. He's really one of the few prospects who checks off all of the measurables, even through he'll need a lot of training up. Neither Conerly or Banks have the traditional LT arm length (they're close, but not quite there.)

Per John Harris from S&L podcast last night.

Unless Texans trade down into teens to get Banks/Conerly or take a risk on Ohio State LT Simmons, next year would have to trade into top 10 for Proctor/Pritchett both from Alabama or Francis Mauigoa, Miami. Only one other LT with first round grade (yes realize it’s early) Earnest Greene, Georgia.

That’s what he means. Offensive Tackle always goes higher than expected. Still feel Texans should not pass on Conerly Jr. or worse watch another team like Chiefs trade up to #24 with Vikings and get Mahomes his LT of the future.

I am not concerned about last year's draft. I know what I have in front of me. I don’t base my decisions on this year's draft based upon what I think might be there next year. Too many variables such as injuries. Of course that evaluation could be off, but I won't know till then. Those pics in 2026 are not playing this season in the NFL. The ones I am evaluating now will be. I will begin focused evaluation of college players when the season starts.

2026 will get here when it gets here.

Why does this thread make me sing Bad Boy, Bad Boy, whatchu going to do When Nick comes for you
Check the picture by my name. 1 BAD BOY 1,000 hp came for many boats. I loved to watch Rich boys with their play toys who wanted to race others whose boats were well below their abilities.

Then I would slide next to that "winner". Most would not look more than once then slow and skulk off. Some would try to save face and haul butt. I kept pace and then allowed their boat to pull ahead.
To misquote Robert Duval in Apocalypse Now :
I love to hear the sound of dual four-barrel carburetors and dual superchargers kick in!

Conerly's 33 1/4 are of no concern to me. He is just good. I want Grant 34 3/4 also because I believe he can solidify left guard for a decade. What could be better than to have two extremely good left tackles available?

Jayden Higgins slides between them in round 2. He could turn out to be the best wide receiver in the draft.

That addresses our 3 biggest needs. If Nick can use the extra 2026 capital to get Alfred Collins..
Wow!

I would even give up the 2026 1st to move up to say 10-15 for Conerly/Banks. That's if the team I traded with would throw in a 4th.

Why do you like Collins so much? For this team, I’m meh on him.
Alfred Collins? He's a big dude that can move and is a run stopper. He's got great movement skills and even played some 5 tech last yr. He's got talent but has some pass rush from the interior, but needs to develop a better pass rush plan, particularly with his hands. That's to be expected since he's a one yr starter. With Ryans track record of developing successful DT's Collins floor is Jonathan Allen/ his ceiling is Chris Jones. He's got that type of talent. Very few 335 lbs men move like Collins does. I've got him just below Nolen/Harmon with a chance to be as good or better than them. He has a pretty good chance as being as good as Graham after working with Ryans for a yr. As a rookie he will be a great run stopper who will be a rotational guy. IMHO

Conerly
Collins
Royals
Ferguson
Brashard Smith after trading up

This would be my dream draft and it's possible it could happen.

Senior Bowl Measurements
34” arm length, issue this year @ Combine with who and how most all prospects measured out.
Offensive LineJosh Conerly Jr.6'4 1/8"31310 3/8"34"6'9"

I would even give up the 2026 1st to move up to say 10-15 for Conerly/Banks. That's if the team I traded with would throw in a 4th.
Sounds overly reasonable, but here’s the thing. This swarm mentality has become Texans culture, which I’m all on board with, but Conerly gives me Andre Johnson vibes. Is Andre Johnson not swarm? Leave it at that. Can’t wait for draft to get here.
