What would you do at 16 if AJ is Gone?

Marshall

Not pretty, but ALIVE!
I suspect one of three WR will be our first pick if Andre leaves.

1. Amari Cooper - probably gone, but a slim chance he gets by.
2. Kevin White - Performed well at the combine. 50-50 he'
s still there at 16 only because so many others are looking at OL, DL or OLB.
3. DeVante Parker - I think this guy is there, but certainly not a guarantee.

But if all three are gone, it is likely that there will be a surprise stud left that we expected to be gone like an Andrus Peat or Bud Dupree.

But there are many WRs at the next level which can be gotten in later rounds about a round after they might in a typical year, much like RBs.

The beef goes early and FS and TE seems to be positions where teams will reach for any prospect, even if inferior in a normal year.

With this in mind, What would you do if you have a choice betwen Landon Collins SS, DeVante Parker WR and Andrus Peat OL?

The book says SS is a strength for Houston, but he is a star in a position which is weak this year with a large gap to the next best SS. WR is a position of need, but there are many available at the next level. Peat would be a major surprise and likely an instant starter on the right side and also with the skills to move to the left side when and if needed.

I want ALL THREE.

What would you do?

The good news is we've got so many holes that we have a great chance of finding a stud at 16 who fulfills a need. The bad news is... we've got so many holes.

I'll take Denzel Perryman....ILB is still very much so a need and the depth at MLB is lower than every other position.

Depends on what happens in free agency. Right now their board should be ranked as BPA. After the FA rush it'll go to BPA at a position of need. That's my hypothesis any way

Parker of the three hands down. List those with same size, speed and stats as White, Parker and Strong after day one. Mahle is close but one of the former over him despite his lower round. As stated in AJ thread setting aside FA for now: 1.16 Parker or Strong 2.51 NT Davis or corner Jalen Colins 3.81 Slot/returner McBride and 3.b (trade up with 4th & 5th) for RB Cobb.

I think we will definitely have Jaelen Strong available at 1-16, and may or may not have DeVante Parker. Kevin White will be the first WR off the board after his combine and Cooper won't be long in following.

No way GP puts together such an easy to read post. Dude's got paragraphs, punctuation, all caps in key spots... an enumerated list.. then he's got "if this, then..." statements, reasonable choices.

Not GP.

Haven't had enough time to give it enough thought. I do know that I'm pizzed for many reasons though.

1. Last year Texans were adamant about not trading AJ. With a new coach, bad team, no QB in a definite rebuilding year that decision was just triple double dumb. I said so then. Trading AJ was one of the smartest things they could've done in 2014.

2. I knew this day was still coming soon regardless of the Texans absence of thought last year and why I had Donte Moncrief as AJ's replacement in RD 3. Again, I was looking ahead and the Texans weren't.

3. Now the Texans are going to have to use a Top draft pick this year to address their ignorance from last year and deprive another position from a pro bowl caliber player. The Texans shot themselves in the foot last year and they shot themselves in the other foot this year.

When I say Bob McNair is another Rankin Smith and John Mecom Jr, I mean it!

We should all bow to your greatness. You are just so much smarter than everyone else. Lol.

I really glad to see so many other reasonable responses. I was sure I would open this thread to read a bunch of knee jerk "omg we have to draft a top WR now" panicky post. Nope just yours. There is hope for this board after all.

I too hope that one day you too will be able to bask in the glory of greatness and brilliance. Now if you will excuse me I have a MENSA meeting to attend.

What would I do? Stay true to my board regardless if White and Cooper are gone

One of these should be available. My board looks like this, FA wouldn't change this board. If KJ/Newton were resigned I would still go BPA and cut Joseph for example. Collins/Newton would play RT/LG and the OL would be great.

1. Parker
2. Dupree
3. Malcolm Brown
4. Waynes
5. Collins

Rd.1 Dupree
Rd.2 Devin Smith
Rd.3 McBride.

Pass rusher and a huge dose of much needed speed outside.

If you have Dupree round one isn't he you BPA? How does Collins become your RT? Would you be drafting him if the other four are gone?

Just a note. I think you're indicating La'el Collins OT/G would be there since you are talking tackle/guard. I'm thinking he will be gone, but Landon Collins SS, far and away the best safety in the draft is likely to be there.

There are several players which could be easily confused ala Malcom Brown/ Malcomb Brown, both from Texas and a slew of Smiths in this years draft, not to mention two Kevin Whites.

By the way, if La'el Collins, T J Clemmings and Andrus Peat are still there, which one would you take?

My order is Peat, then Collins and then Clemmings, but they are very close. Close enough that I would trade down a pick or two to pick up additional picks if offered, knowing one would still be there.

Parker will probably be gone.

I think there's a chance Dupree will be there, Hence Dupree at 16. If he isn't there give me one of the other guys I listed and I'm happy. I really like Brown/Collins, one of them should be there at 16.

doesnt change my opinion on who to draft at all.

if anyone of the following are there at 16 i will clock the fastest 40time to the podium:
White
Shelton
La'el Collins
Parker
Waynes
Goldman

I forthr life of me can't see why there is so much love for Peat. Even when you read scouting reports you can tell guys that have watched his film have doubt but seem afraid to go against the big reputation this guy has going for him.

I see a guy who has every single tool you need to be a franchise LT. Just needs to get stronger, be more consistent, and play with a little more attitude.

If you like clemmings you should also like Peat. They both have a projectable skillset.

That's true they do both have projectable skillset.

There is one big difference. Peat came out of highschool as the top grated OT in the nation, played three years at Stanford a school know for great OL coaching. Yet he still is inconsistent and IMO hasn't really shown any improvement over the last couple of years.

Clemons never played OT before two years ago and already he is as or more consistent than peat. His projection is on the way up. Peats is sideways.

It amazes me how much alike we view some of these prospects.
