What the mocks are saying - Post Combine

I looked at the following post combine mocks:

NFL.com (Lance Zierlein)
The Athletic (Dane Brugler)
ESPN (Jordan Reid)
CBS Sports (Ryan Wilson & Rick Spielman)

The results as far as the area players would go were pretty consistent. Here is where the players land in all 4 mocks.

Unanimous Players in Top 10 (6)
Caleb Williams QB USC
Jayden Daniels QB LSU
Drake Maye QB North Carolina
Marvin Harrison Jr WR Ohio State
Malik Nabers WR LSU
Joe Alt OT Notre Dame

Unanimous Players inside the Top 22 (10)
Rome Odunze WR Washington
Jared Verse EDG Florida State
Tailese Fuaga OT Oregon State
Dallas Turner EDG Alabama
Brock Bowers TE Georgia
Byron Murphy DL Texas
Olu Fashanu OT Penn State
Terrion Arnold CB Alabama
JJ McCarthy QB Michigan
Quinyon Mitchell CB Toledo

Unanimous Players taken somewhere in 1st round (10)
JC Latham OT Alabama
Troy Fautanu OG Washington
Brian Thomas WR LSU
Nate Wiggins CB Clemson
Chop Robinson EDG Penn State
Laita Latu EDG UCLA
Tyler Guyton OT Oklahoma
Amarius Mims OT Georgia
Jackson Powers-Johnson C Oregon
Cooper DeJean CB Iowa

Players listed in 1st round in 1-3 mocks (11)
AD Mitchell WR Texas
Xavier Worthy WR Texas
Darius Robinson EDG Missouri
Johnny Newton DL Illinois
Jordan Morgan OT Arizona
Graham Barton C Duke
Kool-Aid McKinstry CB Alabama
Ennis Rakestraw CB Missouri
Ladd McConkey WR Georgia
Keon Coleman WR Florida State
Bralen Trice EDG Washington

Only 37 players listed as possible 1st round picks. One catch I see is that Penix and Nix are not listed as 1st rounders in any of these mocks. I believe teams that miss out or pass on a QB in the 1st round, (maybe the Giants, Raiders, Falcons, or Vikings) will trade back into the 1st to get these 2 QBs and the 5th year options. I think there will be some pretty decent players that get out of the 1st round, and trading back into the top third of the 2nd round is a good option.

This is what I predict tricky Nick will do this draft.
He has said that pushing some cap into next year is the thing to do so I imagine high draft picks are viewed as valuable assets too so I can't see him burning those this year unless they gotta have a guy in the top of the 2nd.
I'm not ruling out a small move back in the first.

He will either stay put at 1-23 or trade down.

In other words, no one has a clue what the Texans will do

Predicting Draft picks for the various teams would be much less challenging and downright easy at times if one knew what each teams Board would be at the time of their selection.

There are several players at various positions at the top of the second round that will have, or be close to, a first round grade and I could see a kerfuffle from several teams to get them.
Nick "the kerfuffler" Caserio!
I am with you and expect more than one trade resulting from 1.23.
Still think Thomas and one of the Alabama corners could be our first two selections.

I will eagerly follow each pick until 1.23 and when the Texans will trade down and I will have to struggle to sleep that entire night and be frustrated the next day trying to figure out what they are going to do day two.

And then they will not pick the guy I want...

Eho

Who do you want day two so I can document 😉

My gut tells me it’s going to be Johnny Newton. Who was my first choice in very beginning. Texans seem gifted, move after move and event after event as if somehow a curse has been lifted and blessing from above bestowed 🙏🏼
Looking more and more likely with the way the big board sits right now.
If he is the pick, WR or CB will be the second and that one will depend on who they have ranked higher on their board or which one they eliminated in FA.

I don't think Nick will trade out of the first as that 5th year option is too valuable.
They probably only move back a handful of spots if they do.

My hope would be we sign Saquan and Trent Brown (notice that no one is talking about him?)and Danielle Hunter.

There are so many good players at positions we need in round two and three that I don't see how we can miss guys I prefer.
I guess my primary wish is at 23 getting Brian Thomas and then a trade up for a CB top of round 2.

Trade downs just offer so much.. if we can get them.
Roll dem bones!

While I understand the value of a fifth year option, I don't value it as much as most. If I can get two quality players instead of one, I would rather go that way most of the time. Get the players and then worry about the cap. Also for those first round picks a lot of times their contracts are renegotiated before they play their fifth year.

Yep, the fifth year option is becoming less important, even with QB's.

Is the format the same as last year?

Round 1 Thursday afternoon, rounds 2 & 3 Friday, rounds 4, 5, 6, & 7 Saturday

I think that's what they did.
That is my understanding and I think it has been that way for a few years.

Edit
Round one is Thursday evening but some do not know that Friday and Saturday begins in the morning hours. I want to say 11:00 a.m. Central Time?
