What Round Will the Texans fix their Offensive line Troubles?

with all of this reggie and vince talk, we need to talk about how we are going to protect reggie or vince from getting injured. What round do you think the texans will decide to solve their o-line issues?
 
If the draft order stays the same, and we use our #1 on Bush or Young, I'd expect and hope they would use their 1st pick in the 2nd round(#33) on an Olineman. I'd also hope they mght try to get a TE or another Olineman with one of our 3rd round picks.
 
In a draft this strong in OL (best OL draft in decades), we need to take at least 3 OL.

#33 TE Pope/Davis - sort of an OL because he will block
options if no TE:
OG Jena Gilles
OT (whichever falls) - Scott, Winston, McNeill, Justice, O'Callaghan
#65 OG Tutui, if he is still there.
OT options:
Daryn Colledge 6-5, 296 Boise State
Andrew Whitworth 6-7, 330 LSU
Jabari Levey 6-5, 320 South Carolina
Jami Hightower 6-4, 365 Texas A&M
Zach Strief 6-7, 350 Northwestern
Jeremy Trueblood 6-8, 320 Boston College

#66 BAP

#97 A center/guard:
Kyle Young 6-5, 320 Fresno State
Mike Degory 6-5, 296 Florida
Nick Mangold 6-4, 300 Ohio State

After that we take D to fill holes (unless, of course, a good prospect falls)

Worst case scenario, hopefully they will use their 2nd and one of their 3rd round picks on OLine and sign LeCharles Bentley. I am still in favor of trading down and taking an OT (my current preference is Eric Winston) in the 1st round, then looking for an interior OL with one of our 2nd round picks (we should have more than one after trading down), and then maybe with one of our 3rd round picks, in addition to bringing in LeCharles Bentley.
 
2nd will be best OT available
3rd will be best TE available
3rd will be best pass rush DE or best MLB available (depends on FA's)(remember, we're probably switching to a 4-3)
4th will probably get traded for a 3rd next year (Cass is a dork) or a CB
5th will be best available DT/DE
6th could be a LS/C
7th will be..............who cares.........just kidding, maybe another DT/DE run-stopper tweener type.



Are we gonna get any compensatory pix this year.
 
I wouldn't mind getting Mario Williams at #4 and letting him work on Pitts all summer. Chester would be the guy at LT but that would assume Bentley is acquired in FA. If not you have to go with D'brick and get this thing solidified. Follow that up with another o-lineman in the second or if we got Mario use both 2nd's on linemen and grab a TE in the 3rd or 4th. This obviously assumes a trade down for more picks.
 
1. Sign LeCharles Bently
2. Draft OT (to compete with Pitts or start at RT) in round 2.
3. Round 3: best OG available and a MLB or DE.
4. Round 4: TE, a good player will be available as this is a deep year at this position.
5. Round 5-7: Best player available.
 
For the line the only two positions I'm sold on are Pitts at LT and Hogdon at Center. Next biggest weakness is freakin Todd Wade IMO, so you're gonna need a RT that could come to the left side in the future. The guard positions, we aren't too bad off.

Like the previous poster said, I would use AT LEAST the no. 33 on that RT.

OF COURSE with Kubiak coming here, who knows what our O-Line will look like. Denver loved drafting the "undersized" and under evaluated. Much like New England. :hmmm:

In a perfect world I would love to draft lineman as late as Denver and NE. We could really use those 2nd and 3rd rounders on some D!
 
I think it'll depend on what they do with the first pick.

If they trade down, then it could come as early as the 1st round. If they select a player with the top pick, then I think (hope) it'll be with the top pick in the 2nd.
 
It depends on a few things.

It will depend on what Kubiak and the new OL coach thinks of our players. They will have to find out if they are bad, their coaching was bad, if they were out of position, etc.

They will also have to see if they can get anyone good in free agency.

They will have to see if there are any "can't miss" players who fell to the second round who shouldn't have.

Personally, I would like to have a guy like Max Jean Gilles in the second round. But from what I understand, the Denver system likes to use smaller guys on the line and not necessarily giants like Jean Gilles. I also think that Leonard Pope is too good to pass up at the top of the second. A versatile TE is really holding this team back and could be a really good safety blanket for Carr.

I think a trade down that allows us to pick up an extra second would be the best option for our team.

The FS's you propose: Ko Simpson, Laron Landry

The MLB, and IMO THE BEST lb this year regardless of position, period: Ahmad Brooks
 
Second round will be the best offensive line prospect regardless of position.

3rd round it will be wise to see what falls. With the top 2 picksIf Taitusi Lutui, USC; or Davin Joseph, Oklahoma fall to us we take them, even if we got Jean Miles in the second. We dont need DT's for a 4-3 but we will either need DE's or linebackers depending on what happens with our roster.

4th round we have the rest of the night to evaluate the first day and who fell into the second day. This is where we take that guy that everyone thought would be in day one but took a fall.

5-7 BPA our roster is bad enough that BPA has the best chance of making an impact, emphasis on offensive and defensive lines.

I havn't gone over free agent lists, but if its a strong free agent year for DE's then maybe we dont need to go hard for them in the draft. etc

Then a TE, because in my opinion, it's a bit like getting a two fer, a TE blocks a bit like an O-lineman and adds to the passing game, so I see it as one of the major missing pieces from the the offense. Then a DE and then an OG. IMO, the FA period will dictate how many O-lineman we need to draft without looking at defensive guys.
 
Gary Kubiak = Alex Gibbs...Look at Atlanta and Denver's Oline and tell me what is wrong with the 320 lb Olineman picture.

Unfortunately there aren't too many TEs that block like linemen (Bruener is one) that are also effective in the passing game (Bruener is of no use here), certainly there are ones that block pretty well and that are still useful as a receiver, but it can be hard to find a good mix. I think Rivers and Joppru (at least what I've heard on him) are serviceable at both and I think we should first look to free agency for a TE because there are some pretty good ones that could be available if their teams do not resign them. If we can't get a free agent TE, our coaches don't like our current group, and a decent TE falls to us in the 3rd round or lower then I'm all for taking one, but I don't like spending a 2nd (or 1st for that matter) round pick on one with so many other problems on the team. Plus if we trade down and address many of the problems on our team and at the end of next year decide we want another TE, we should have an extra 1st round pick in next year's draft and Olsen from Miami will be available to us then, and I have no problems using one of two 1st round picks on a TE if we can secure most of the rest of the holes on our team this year.
