The problem with the blitzes are that they are predictable and easy to pick up because it is nothing but blitzing straight through lanes. There are no stunts, no trickery in the blitzes and not enough. If you watch the steelers, they have polamolu coming up to the line then on the snap pretending to drop into coverage and rolling back outside to come around the tackle for a sack. The guy spins in a cirlce and the oline doesnt watch. Why does this team not try anything creative. Most teams have their ILBs or MLBs coming off the edge with the OLB so that two guys are going against 1 blocker. I say ditch capers, and get LeBeau from the steelers as a coach who can really run the 3-4 on defense, and let him get someone credible for OC. This team has some athletes that are being wasted on defense. You have 4 fast LBs whose talent is not be exploited by dropping them back off the line and making them make plays down field. This is an argument that is the same as which came first, the chicken or the egg. The DBs cant cover because there is no pass rush, or at least not enough. The LBs have about 2-3 secs to get to the QB on their pass rush because the DBs arent covering long enough for them to be able to get to the QB. Despite what many people think, this team does have a lot of talent on defense, but it isnt being utilized. Do you really think Posey, Foley, and whoever else are really better athletes than Peek at OLB? These guys are not stupid, they can do things, but they have to run the plays that are sent in to them by the coaches. Let them run wild. Let them play like they could if they werent being told to play conservative like their boring and conservative coach.
 
Funny you mentioned stunts. I saw my first one this year and I was stunned. I am sure there have been others, but it was the first time I saw a decent pass rush by a three man front. I remember thinking to myself, these guys just may turn it around. :brickwall
 
yes it was a suprise. thats what people dont realize, our players arent that bad, but when they are told to run straight at their blockers of course they cant get much pressure. Other teams get pressure with 4 men because they run different things and run stunts and send two guys to one gap. its amazing what the differences could be if the texans did the same.

Our 3-4/Cover 2 is predictable and lacks any creativity. We don't fool anyone, which is quite evident with our current streak of four games without a defensive turnover.

Way too much to say here.
They can't blitz well, and they cannot create turnovers.
That's the big two right there.
Oh, and bad drafting, I would say.

I think saying they cant blitz is incorrect. They could blitz, and probably be very effective if they would allow the players to do some real blitzing. 4 men "blitzing" straight at 6 blockers is not going to get it done. The drafting really hasnt been awful. There have been some "interesting" calls but that is also hampered by freak injuries to people like joppru. The team does have a good core of players that are having to play on a leash. Carr could be good with some blocking, DD is pretty good, the receivers are decent along with AJ, Robaire is improving again, TJ is playing decent, Peek and Wong are fine, Greenwood is getting more adjusted, and you got some young DBs with Dunta in there. They have some talent, they just arent using it.
 
Fangio's 3-4\Cover2 is a defense that cannot work in the NFL. Most of the pass rushers we have drafted are not accustomed to going into coverage, and are much less adept at playing good zone schemes. Peek should never be dropped into coverage unless it is a zone dog sending the Corner or FS and he has to drop into the quickslant lane. The main aspect is as you say CinciKid. We have the talent, but we are not putting them in a posistion to succeed. it is that way with our team across the board.
