What if SD beats us Sunday ?

lets be real some things in the preseason matter some things dont. If LT's ypc is 1.3 yards in the pre season it doesnt matter... if your starting line gives up 4 sacks in the 3rd or 4th pre season game... it matters... if your starting D gets 4 or 5 sacks in the 3rd and 4th preseason game it matters. If your starting QB completes 68 percent or 15 percent of his passes it matters. If your 4th string defense gives up 2 td's in garbage time who cares. Alot of things in preseason matter some dont

The only things that matter in preseason are who gets hurt, who gets cut, and how little the cheerleaders are wearing. It's time for the real thing.

SD beating us would be much more likely than us beating Miami in their opener
last year (before the fact of course). Afterall, this is the NFL - everybody is really good, any given Sunday, etc. You don't get any pud openers in this league like Oklahoma, Texas, and others in college do. Would we feel devastated
with a loss, soured for the whole season. Or would it be "We'll get them next week in Detroit", this is just a small setback in the long range plan ?

The sky will be falling in the city of Houston. Talk shows and MB's will be full of fans calling for Palmers head just like every lost. Maybe even Capers if the Bolts were to beat them.

I hate to agree with Cowboy fans, but DFAN is right. There will be a 'Fire Palmer' thread created excatly 1 second after the game and 2 seconds later it would have 4 pages of replys...

Heck, we have already had a 'fire Palmer' thread and we have played exactly zero real football so far in 2004.

The first team vs. first team in the pre-season argument is invalid. Even though teams are using thier "first team" usually all of the starters are still not in. AJ missed 1 game DD missed 2 games, Walker missed 2, Payne missed 3, Babin missed 1, Dunta missed 1, Foreman played 1 game with the "second team." Pre-season "first teams" are not regular season first teams.

I think they should fire Palmer just because we're tired of it coming up on the message boards, already.

I echo what RTP said above, and I'll add this. There is no gameplanning going into the preseason games, and according to Casserly the Texans didn't even gameplan for the Broncos in their 3rd preseason game. The 3rd preseason game is generally the one game that teams plan for, and in this case the Texans didn't. Play calling on both sides of the ball is vanilla, and thus if you expect to have much improved pressure on the QB based on a preseason game then you're sadly mistaken. When teams get time to gameplan, and watch tape against a team they can work on blitz pick up, and pass protection for that particular team. Both teams get time to find a weakness on the opposing team, and exploit it. Given the Texans' record in Season Openers I'll have to side with us on this one. The pass rush in the 3-4 predominantly comes from the OLB, and I don't see anyone on your team that is a sack threat. You have a new defense system in place, and you expect it to pay immediate dividends against a potentially potent offense that is in its 3rd year under the same system. If we had a 1st year OC, and you had a 1st year DC then I could see a close game. But this isn't the case in this game, and I don't forsee the Texans having any trouble with the SD defense.

We only have to do one thing to beat them, and thats stop LT. We also gotta watch out for Gates too, we get those 2 guys out of the game, and it could be a shutout.

noone can stop LT. Not even the best defense. 85 bears couldnt stop LT. He ran for 105 on the ravens D what do you think he is going to do to yours. and if you stack 8 and 9 in the box your not going to stop Gates. It will be interesting to see how the texans gameplan for these 2

One day these guys will realize that execution has the problem with the texans not poor play calling. If DD runs 1500, AJ catches for 1200 and Carr throws 3300 then palmer becomes a genius again.

BTW, this game makes me nervous. smells too much like a texans should win. Expect a real close one with enough wrong for us to complain about.

Not that I'm a betting man.. ( lol ) but just in this one case
I'm willing to put up my clear title, to the car I Love.. As
my ranch is already on the line, and I seem to be " Dummer than this thread." This is your chance to show
how much smarter you are than this old cowpoke is and
enjoy a set of great wheels. PM me, and I'll give you a shot
a me. You can have all, or what ever part you want to cover
on the Chargers beating the Texans. :thumbup

Nice...I didn't see this post until just now. I wouldn't have made a bet anyway, cause I'm not the betting type, but it would have been nice to get a new car :thumbup

The Chargers return 6 starters from the 2002, week 2 game. The Texans return 12.

These aren't the same teams that will be playing Sunday. While any team in the NFL can win on a given Sunday, I can't see San Diego pounding anyone this year.

Boy were you wrong lucky. Who says that we are weak on oline and dline and in the kicking game. Like Rookies can't perform?? Big Ben Shane Olivea and Nick hardwick on the chargers line have allowed the fewest sacks in the league. Then thereis igor olshansky one of the biggest monsters i have ever seen coming out of college. Young teams can win as the Chargers have proven and will prove again next year
