What About Anthony Curtis?

I noticed this guy while searching the various draft sites for our mock draft, and everywhere I visited seemed to be pretty high on this guy especially since he comes out of a small school. He's a TE at Portland St, and he's described as having very good to great speed, and a dominant blocker. He wasn't used in the passing game much, but has the tools to be a good receiver. Of course all of this was against less than ideal competition. He's also a former basketball player in HS, and earned All State honors I think. I know there are several draftniks on this board who probably have more insight about him than I do. What are your thoughts on him and the possibility of the Texans drafting him in the 2nd day of the draft?

Anthony Curtis TE Portland State

Every "guru" seems to be pretty high on this guy...He has all the tools to be a good NFL TE, but I think that the fact that his receiving skills aren't very polished will keep his stock low...

I look for him to be picked anywhere between the 5th round and the 7th round...

Yeah that's why I liked him late in the 2nd day. He would be an excellent value, and if we could get him in the 6th or 7th round his risk/reward would be great. There are many occassions where a team's 6th or 7th round pick doesn't pan out, but in those instances when those picks succeed at the NFL level they're regarded as "diamonds in the rough". All that being said I haven't seen any of this guys games, but with a guy like Everrett out of Miami you see plenty of his games. He looks to be a very good TE that could be had in the 3rd or 4th and possibly even 5th. However, I don't think he's even the best TE on his team. Greg Olson looked great in all the Miami games I saw, but I'm not sure how great of a blocker he is. He'll have plenty of time to improve his blocking before entering the draft.

I like both Kevein Everett of Miami and Alex Smith from Stanford. I think both of these guys could be gotten in the 3rd to 4th rounds and since we have 2 of each, I would like to see us pick up one of these guys. Both can catch and have good athletic ability, the only problems are that both are sub par blockers, but so are most TEs coming out of college.
